Hardly. After gouging out one's eyes, it's rather hard to oggle swimsuit models.

While I can see the ...(survey says-) 'honor' of a fat lady beauty competition. It's the most idiotic thing I've ever <s>seen</s> heard of.

Why can't they just go to the middle for once and have a 'normal people' beauty competion instead of super-thin and super-bulbous? I just change the channel when that commercial comes on anyway...

Well, being fat WAS attractive in certain parts of the middle ages and in some ancient societies, because that meant you were well fed and therefore, compared to peasants, healthy.

But these days being fat isn't healthy. So this just says, "I'm not healthy, but damnit I'm proud!"

I've seen the commercial several times as well. The thing I can't figure out is why the contest is going to be shown on the Oxygen channel.

It just seems like a disaster in the making.

Because, as the preview channel implies (when I can find it, anyway) Oxygen tries to be the 'Lifetime' for women that aren't completely obsessed with feminist women, living in a mans world, trying to survive against 'incredible' odds.

Seriously, have you ever seen the crap they have on Lifetime? Jesus, I can't believe anyone with a brain can watch a whole movie on that channel. Oxygen, while just as boring, actually has shows that I could see someone watching. The only show I've recognized on it is "Xena - Warrior Princess" (that one rip off of Hercules <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). So I'm just assuming they're peaceful, cheery, happy feminists instead of militaristic, men are evil, "Mailperson!" feminists.

Funny, my mom watches those crappy movies all of the time. I agree with you though, those movies are pretty damn crappy. The Lifetime TV Movie Plot Machine keeps on churning out the same basic plots over and over. Pretty much all of the movies have the same basic premise: Man cheats on wife and/or get another woman pregnant. Woman confronts man and man beats on wife. Wife accidentally kills husband and it turns out the husband had done bad deedsa so the woman does not wind up in jail. That's the basic theme behind just about all of those crappy 4 hour Lifetime movies. My mom really just watches it to see old episodes of the Golden Girls, but that's another story.

Oxygen is like the disowned offspring of Lifetime and UPN.

This entire show is a joke. It is not healthy to be that overweight. We're not talking about an extra ten pounds or some junk in the trunk. We're talking 50+ pounds overweight. These are the same people who use the phrase "big beautiful woman" to describe themselves. News flash: Morbid obesity is not sexy, nor is that inevitable heart attack you're working on.
