Some more to add!

Final Fantasy 7: Yep, the story line for it sucks. It's the same as 6's almost.

Main character is brain washed, worked for evil-super-secret-government-that-isn't-secrety, Finds out he's all, "WOOOO SPESHAL PARENTAGE" and saves the world.

    Yeah.

(Although FF6 was one of the best things to happen to this world since Half-Life)

Earnest? Who uses that word, pfffft. Just because it's so close to ernst .

I think this this explains Blade Runner. Another terrible game is Back to the Future 2 & 3 for NES...blech. Predator was none too good, either.

On the other end of the spectrum, KotOR and Chronicles of Riddick (I especially like the voice acting of the guard who goes "Come out, come out, wherever you are - you mother[bleep]") are both pretty good movie licensed games.

Definitly, it was Mechwarrior without having the satisfaction of blowing things to hell in a big stompy robot. Instead you control like 4 Mechs in much poorer graphics

I think i played it for 2 days and then shelfed it out of the way.

I've got to say that I enjoyed the Mechcommander demo quite a bit back in the days. I always liked small-squad tactics.

From what ive heard it seemed like a great idea, just wasnt implemented all that well. And later versions of mech warrior made decent group control while still piloting one, which was funnnn.

It should have been Command And Conquer with mechs. It was Command and Conquer, but

No skirmish

No base building

All stealth missions

Remeber in Red Alert 1, some of the missions you had to guide one or two people around (*coughtanyacough*) and do various "Stealth" missions and not get them killed? (which was insanely hard at times) That was pretty much all of mechcommanders singleplayer. And the Multiplayer sucked too. No strategy at all. Just wonder around the map, find your opponent, and wait for 15 minutes while your heavy duty mechs sit there and fire at each other (often missing while only Yards away) with crappy lasers because they can hold about 3 salvos of missles each? YAWN TO THE EXTREME

If its the swamp level then be prepared to get very bored fighting mechanical animals. I think personally I got as far as the castle you're meant to be going inside, and then deleted it. I was also **** off at running backwards in a firefight only to have it load up the previous level (which takes/took time). Then of course you have to run FORWARD again to go back onto the level you're meant to be on...and wait again. Yay.
  • MantridMantrid Lockpick Join Date: 2003-12-07 Member: 24109Members
I played some of the swamp. I shot some scanner things. I have no idea what they were. Then I shot some frogs that were hell-bent on killing me, for some unknown reason. Then some mosquitos hatched out of eggs. I got verydamaged in all the confusion.

Then another mosquito hit me and I exploded. Then, thank god, the game crashed.

It got such huge publicity and hype, from these boards alone, and all it really had going for it was the fact it was a RPG/FPS hybrid

The Fortress of Dr. Radiaki. The game was just awful, absolutely awful. It gave me nightmares to think that human beings could have come up with something so unfathomly bad.

Seriously, DX has quite a little more than its very solid RPG-FPS foundation on offer. First, it's certainly one of the best examples of multi-approach level design in existence. Second, it features a very intriguing storyline with well-written dialogue and actually some theoretical considerations factoring into the actual conclusion of the game (each of the three possible solutions can be regarded as taking a stance towards the opinions expressed by the Morpheus construct in Paris, for example). Add to this the well fleshed-out game world, and you have a very, very good game.

Granted, the technical aspects aren't that great, but I'm capable of surviving without of top-of-the-line graphics.

Agreed on all points. And not only did I tolerate less than top-of-the-line graphics, I played between half and 2/3 of the game on a computer below the supposed minimum spec for CPU speed -- and I still enjoyed it.

Now to contribute to the topic of the thread...The (relatively) new Warhammer 40k game "Fire Warrior" was disappointing. Its graphics, AI, and gameplay all reminded me of Quake 2. That may not be a bad thing, except that it's less than a year old. I worry its lack of polish and depth may be affecting the sales of its superior cousin also on the shelves, Dawn of War.
