Oh, whatever, i still hate "rock music," but everyone else seems to be ignoring the "rock" specification and just listing whatever crap they like.
Hmm, bands and songs somewhere related to rock....
Devil Doll - Dies Irae A virtually unknown musical project. The only way you can describe Devil Doll's music would be to call it a gothic progressive rock opera. The vocals are unique and the music, featuring a full orchestra, is beyond anything i've ever heard. Dies Irae is pretty much a 35 minute track (Well, split into 16 pieces, purely for convenience) and i'd recommend that everyone should listen to it, that is if they can find a copy.
NOFX - The Greatest Songs Ever Written (By Us) Yeah, i know this album isn't out yet, but it's a best-of album and the tracklisting is great. NOFX are a band that have never left me for years now. Favourite track would have to be The Brews, a pisstake skinhead anthem about skinhead jews. OI! OI!
Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves Rancid are probably one of the finest punk rock bands and "...And Out Come The Wolves" is probably one of the finest punk rock records released in a long time. I can't pick a favourite track. Try Ruby Soho, Old Friend, Olympia WA, Roots Radicals, Timebomb, Daly City Train, hell, any track on this disc.
EDIT: Oh yeah, my cd collection comprises of a hell of a lot of death metal and black metal, but this is a topic about rock music, not extreme metal.
here's a list of some of the bands i find good. though i'm always searching for more bands. these can all be classified as "metal" i guess.
Dark Tranquility Children Of Bodom In Flames
these could be considered "heavier" than the ones below, however i realise they aren't nowhere near as heavy as some other bands. personally i don't enjoy those extreme death metal bands, where you cant even hear the lyrics :\
Dream Evil Iced Earth Nightwish Sonata Arctica
of course i listen to much more, but i reckon not all needs to be on the list.

to continue with the ignore thread title and just talk about stuff we like:
top 3 bands in no particular order:
The Beatles (just to great, I don't have to explain this)
Mindles Self Indulgence NYC punk/rock/electronic/lots-of-other-wierd-things band. you can download some of their music from their website, go check it out ( and for thoe of you who have seen the Pikachu-B*tches video, that is their song)
And atm my 3rd band is OC Remixes (listening to Relics Of The Chozo and desiring a GC to play Prime on)
Oh, and on the note of new punk/pop (as most of these bands take more of a lead from punk then from traditional rock). I like it.
I am not a sheep. I do not think they are 'good' music. However that dosn't stop me from liking them. They are mindless little songs that are catchy and fun to listen to when the mood strikes you.
As KFS said. There are 2 genres of music: What I Like and What I Don't
Oh, and if Esuna listens to it, I am definatly willing to give it a shot (guy has good taste)

My fav's: 1. The Crown (- Satanist) 2. Meshuggah (- New Millenium Cyanide Christ) 3. The Berzerker (- Last Mistake)
Has anyone else done "Dark Side of the Rainbow" ? - It is a wicked cool experience (even without mind altering substances).
Here is how it works - start Wizard of Oz turn the volume low. At the 3rd mgm lion's roar, start the cd of Dark side of the Moon.
At this point you have 2 options. You can play that cd on loop for 2.5 times. The other (more preferable option) is to stop the cd after the 1st run through, and then play the cd "Meddle" when the cowardly lion jumps out and roars.

Nirvana, without a doubt. I like almost every song, so I can't really put something here. Slayer, with Treshold and Screaming From The Sky. Korn, with almost every song from their first album.

Hmm, favorites are hard. They vary as time goes by. But right now, it must be ...
Motorpsycho - Vortexsurfer (the Trust Us double album is insanely good) 16 Horsepower - Clogger (among other great songs) Godspeed you black emperor! - mother****er=redeemer (thought I don't like Yanqui U.X.O as much as their previous albums)
Is this rock? Certainly spin-offs/sub-categories of rock, but close enough for me.

The Mars Volta - Drunkship of Lanterns....that is a strange song. Certainly wouldn't listen to it again. Unless it gets better in the next five minutes.
EDIT: Its FINALLY finished. Pff, certainly not what its cracked up to be. Its like 300 random sounds all at the same time with some high-pitched-Muse-singing in the background.
Hmm, I don't like Drunkship of lanterns that much off the deloused in the comatorium record either, but most songs on it are similar to the one mentioned above. All of those sounds at the same time are cool, I think, for a long time, I kept discovering new riffs and sounds in the songs layered on top of each other. But what the hell, to each his own.

I can't believe you people have such closed minds. People aren't into Linkin Park just because they sold a lot of albums- some people truly like their music. And frankly, their stuff sounds a lot more unique than most bands out there that you couldn't tell apart, or this stupid metal that has no rythem and is basically just noise making constantly(I could understand if it had Rythem, at least).
Linkin Park is more hybrid rock than it is rock, anyway. They are a mix of hardcore hip hop and rock, depending on what they feel like/were feeling like when they made the song. Some sound like pure rock tunes, some sound like pure rap tunes. Frankly, I think its childish and rather asinine that you would make a blanket statement. GG idiocy.
1. Linkin Park. No one compares, IMO, to this band. Their music elicits such an emotion out of me that I am practically commanded by my senses to like them. 2. Mai Yamane and The Seatbelts- the band made for Cowboy Bebop. Their absolutely great, especially when doing their rock stuff(Real Folk Blues, Blue, See You Space Cowboy...) 3. Rage Against the Machine - powerful, hard hitting, and intelligent all at the same time, while being offensive to those that deserve the pain from their lack of mental fortitude.
Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy. Got to love 20 minute songs.
Type O Negative - I Know You're freaking (hehe word filters -_-) Someone Else.
MSI - Most of their stuff is good. It's not serious music or anything, just fun to listen to.

Linkin Park, and their ilk, are the boybands of metal. Their music is generic, poorly written, no-talent crap. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is the bottom of the barrel, talent-wise. Maybe if you took more than two seconds to educate yourself before making ignorant blanket statements. Take the music of Cradle Of Filth and their intelligent, well written lyrics, or Vim Patior with their blisteringly fast, technical riffs, or how about Old Man's Child and their split second precision and talent, Peccatum and it's bizarre time signatures, Damaged and their amazing drumming or Rhapsody and their unrivaled ability to combine technical metal and comedy. You've heard of all of those bands, right? You've listened to them all, right?
Oh, no wait, that would require an ounce of experimentation or the slightest of an open mind. You come in here and bark off cheap insults such as we are "closed-minded" and you just sit down and get spoon-fed your corporate rock and roll.

Comments
Definitely, although they are pretty light compared to most other rock bands.
Hmm, bands and songs somewhere related to rock....
Devil Doll - Dies Irae
A virtually unknown musical project.
NOFX - The Greatest Songs Ever Written (By Us)
Yeah, i know this album isn't out yet, but it's a best-of album and the tracklisting is great. NOFX are a band that have never left me for years now. Favourite track would have to be The Brews, a pisstake skinhead anthem about skinhead jews. OI! OI!
Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves
Rancid are probably one of the finest punk rock bands and "...And Out Come The Wolves" is probably one of the finest punk rock records released in a long time.
Dark Tranquility
Children Of Bodom
In Flames
these could be considered "heavier" than the ones below, however i realise they aren't nowhere near as heavy as some other bands. personally i don't enjoy those extreme death metal bands, where you cant even hear the lyrics :\
Dream Evil
Iced Earth
Nightwish
Sonata Arctica
of course i listen to much more, but i reckon not all needs to be on the list.
top 3 bands in no particular order:
The Beatles (just to great, I don't have to explain this)
Mindles Self Indulgence
NYC punk/rock/electronic/lots-of-other-wierd-things band. you can download some of their music from their website, go check it out ( and for thoe of you who have seen the Pikachu-B*tches video, that is their song)

There are 2 genres of music:
What I Like and What I Don't
Oh, and if Esuna listens to it, I am definatly willing to give it a shot (guy has good taste)

Yeah, he's right.. Ensiferium are the pwn, up the Viking metal.. but additionally to that, Epic metal rocks also.

Symphony X
Opeth
Adagio
Yeah I'm a fan for progressive and symphonic rock/metal...
System of a Down
Slipknot

2. Meshuggah (- New Millenium Cyanide Christ)
3. The Berzerker (- Last Mistake)
Pink Floyd
Tool / APC
Metallica
Has anyone else done "Dark Side of the Rainbow" ? - It is a wicked cool experience (even without mind altering substances).
Here is how it works - start Wizard of Oz turn the volume low. At the 3rd mgm lion's roar, start the cd of Dark side of the Moon.
At this point you have 2 options. You can play that cd on loop for 2.5 times. The other (more preferable option) is to stop the cd after the 1st run through, and then play the cd "Meddle" when the cowardly lion jumps out and roars.

yah, I am from NYC and one of my good friends (who has exponentialy cool taste in music) turned me on to them around 2000.
For those of you who don't quite get it, actualy try listening to the lyrics (I know it can be hard at points ) after you get through that it is just fun stuff.

Yep, it is amazing how well it all fits. Especially when "Money" starts just as she finds the large flowers (I think anyway, have not done that in ages).
But anyway,
Nirvana, without a doubt. I like almost every song, so I can't really put something here.
Slayer, with Treshold and Screaming From The Sky.
Korn, with almost every song from their first album.
And I'll just continue
Metallica, with Master of Puppets
System of a Down, with Sugar.. I guess.
Fear Factory, with Descent.
Slipknot, with Duality
Rage Against the Machine, with Know Your Enemy and Bulls On Parade
I've got a lot more, but it will get a little long by adding those.
Motorpsycho - Vortexsurfer (the Trust Us double album is insanely good)
16 Horsepower - Clogger (among other great songs)
Godspeed you black emperor! - mother****er=redeemer (thought I don't like Yanqui U.X.O as much as their previous albums)
Is this rock? Certainly spin-offs/sub-categories of rock, but close enough for me.
But anyway,

ok, you mock linkin park yet you list those 2 as what you listen to?
none of them are good bands.
I listen to Slipknot, I like slipknot, I don't think they are any better then Linkin Park though (Korn I just hate, I grew out of that phase a few years ago)
I realy find all of this "you are all sheep" "Linkin Park suxzors"
folowed by the:
"wow, metalica, korn, slipknot" (oh, and I am refering to newer metalica when I mock them, I still sorta like the old stuff).
Give it a rest, Linkin Park is no worse then any other band out there today (I am ofcourse exluding things like Tool that just don't count as they are to good to exist inthe modern swill we call the recording industry )

Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves Look on the right, it has mp3 downloads for Maxwell Murder and Olympia WA, also lower down videos for Ruby Soho and Timebomb.
NOFX This is their official site and album listings. Click on any album name and it should have an mp3 or two from that album. 3 Fave Bands ATM:

Earlier Alk3 and earlier A.F.I. is not as good, but its become more melodic (that a word?) over the years, and only seems to be getting better!
Fave song ATM:

A.F.I. - ...But Home Is Nowhere

EDIT: Its FINALLY finished. Pff, certainly not what its cracked up to be. Its like 300 random sounds all at the same time with some high-pitched-Muse-singing in the background.
All of those sounds at the same time are cool, I think, for a long time, I kept discovering new riffs and sounds in the songs layered on top of each other.
But what the hell, to each his own.
2: Minor Threat
3: Dead Kennedys
And my favorite song right now is Modest Mouse's The Ocean Breathes Salty.
KoRn = win
Their absolutely great, especially when doing their rock stuff(Real Folk Blues, Blue, See You Space Cowboy...)
3. Rage Against the Machine - powerful, hard hitting, and intelligent all at the same time, while being offensive to those that deserve the pain from their lack of mental fortitude.
Funeral For a Friend
Story of the Year
Trapt
Murder Dolls
Cradle of Filth
Stone Sour
OPM
Ghost of the Robot
EDIT:
I have to add on Blink 182, Lost Prophets & The Raveonettes.
Type O Negative - I Know You're freaking (hehe word filters -_-) Someone Else.
MSI - Most of their stuff is good. It's not serious music or anything, just fun to listen to.

Does your ignorance have any limits? Please, answer me that.
Next time you feel the need to make ridiculous, ignorant statements, don't.
Oh, and

QUOTE

And frankly, their stuff sounds a lot more unique than most bands out there that you couldn't tell apart, or this stupid metal that has no rythem and is basically just noise making constantly(I could understand if it had Rythem, at least).
