Moot point, since you can bind each weapon to a seperate key and use hud_fastswitch 1. I have nothign againt binding to the mousewheel per se.
I once knew a man that refused to learn how to bunny hop because it's not ment to be there. Nothing would be wrong with this, but he used a pistol script.
I ask again what about the Slash/Meta Script <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> This script gives you definitly an unfair advantage.
Not really. If you always blink to a point and swipe, possible, but usually people tap blink more than a few times, such as when flying along a curved trajectory or trying to get away. Having it switch to swipe just so you have to switch back would cause a lot more confusion. Same with leap/bite.
<!--QuoteBegin-Raistlin666+May 27 2004, 06:46 AM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Raistlin666 @ May 27 2004, 06:46 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I ask again what about the Slash/Meta Script <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> This script gives you definitly an unfair advantage.
But dont get me wrong i am not against scripting. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> How does it work...
Saying there is a script that allows you to leap/bite means nothing to me, how does it work.
Do you slash and then when you let up you meta, or is it slash then meta then slash then meta? Do you hold down attack and it does that, do you have to press attack and it switch's? If you can explain it, or show me it, I can tell you how it works and why it may or may not be good.
One bad thing that any experienced scripter learns is that scripts don't solve all problems and some can't be used because they lag personal controls.
A little story. In CS I created an automatic fire script for my pistol, it would fire the pistol as fast as possible. The problem, because of the length of the script I would continue in the direction I was going until the script executed. So if I was moving forward I would continue in that direction, if I was moving left, move left til script was done.
The more complex the script, the more commands, the longer it takes to execute and the more likely it won't work in game.
Ummm yeah, leap+bite scripts give you less control than to manually lastinv to it so yeah...
This thread still sucks by the way <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Alright, I just tried and experimented with some bunnyhop scripts.
They're really dumb and do indeed give you an unfair advantage. They just make it so you don't have to time your jumps precisely. I just picked it up and I was bunnyhopping like the best of them; it's really just stupid, and yes it did give me a major advantage as a skulk.
It's addictive though; I can't seem to force myself to delete it. I have a feeling in a few days I'll be like you guys saying that it's totally ok, simply because I know it gives me an advantage that I don't want to lose.
I have used scripts since CS beta 7. I know there are scripts that just give u a little help and others that are definitely exploits. I'll explain: Scripts that just use bind and aliases are fine. Maybe you get a bit of an edge, but not more than a player that has 50ms ping versus my 150ms ping. Another different story are scripts that "play" with game commands like cl_rate, fake_lag, etc. This ones are really exploits and are just another way of cheating.
About commander hotkeys: With my PC and my ping, 3 out of 10 times, when I click, lets say, on the sentry gun icon, what I get selected is the infantry portal because of my ping and a bit of lag. So I don't think that using hotkeys is wrong at all.
And about bunny-hopping: I don't like it and I consider it a way of cheating. And I don't mind if you do it with precise timing or with a script. From my point of view it's a bug in the game and you're taking an unfair advantage.

Wow, I can't believe a post that originated back almost a year ago is suddenly brought back to the front and has generated this much discussion...
Unfortunately, it appears the original post (on fftclan.com) is no longer alive, as it had an excellent couple of lines from me when I was in FFT <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The arguement about scripts and scripting is as old as multiplayer games themselves.....
My 2 cents has been and always will be that scripts don't make a great player better, but they can make an average player good...
Anyway, I don't know why this has all of a sudden come back to us?? I've been on holidays, did I miss something?
Maybe I should give him some of what I am smoking then <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yeah, the original post written by Fangs on the FFT Forums (which was then copied for the reference page, which does reference the original article which no longer exists) was from about 1 year ago (give or take a couple of months)
Sorry for the confusion, but why is it referenced all of a sudden??? It just seemed to come out of the blue???

the point here being that bunnyhopping (which is truly made easier by scripting - AS I MENTIONED) isn't even half of "being good". just thought I'd add that in before I got locked/banned/etc.
i'd like to just point out that if you just picked up the script and started bhopping, there is no way you're an expect bhopper. until you've learned to jump railings, make 180 turns, go up ramps, maintain max speed (450-500 w/o celerity), all without losing the jump or speed, then you're a decent bunnyhopper. there is so much more in bunnyhopping then timing the jumps. it just so happens that timing is the hardest, most frustrating, and annoying part of the game that practically no one does manually (please tell us if you do, and include a demo. there are some people who can do it, but most often, it's not worth it). learning to time while also trying to learn complex bunnyhop motions is probably one of the most difficult things i've ever had to learn. if you think you can outbhop me with your leet script that makes you exigent #1, then pm me please.
on a side note, people with < 60 fps in combat situations will find it practically impossible to not miss a jump without a script. this is the main reason i use a script now - i could bhop well except in low fps situations.

That's not what I saw. There has been one and only one time I felt a script has unfair. I'm not quite sure how, but in mid blink the playerswitched to meta, meta's once, then went back to blink. This did not slow him down as much as you would think and if anything made his path more erratic. The end result was he would blink/meta in, slash, blink/meta out. The reason I do no like this is because it cannot be accomplished with lastinv, and allowed him to heal whenever moving. Granted, he was very talented with the script, and I'm sure it took him a long time to perfect this style, but it was more than "shortening keystrokes". It's not letting the game play for you, but it was on that side of the fence.
I agreed that most leap/bite and such scripts are garbage, lastinv works just fine, and I use the client side lastinv because it helps remove a random element from the game, but this particular script was more than just "shortening keystrokes".

Just to be clear, you can blink/meta/blink/swipe/blink/meta/blink in combat consistently. Not saying you can't just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing. I could lastinv meta/swipe or meta/blink sure, but I'm talking about fluidly meta blinking in as one move swiping then meta blinking out like you were lastinving meta blink instead of just blinking. If you can, and it might be possible, then I withdraw my statement.
That would be a highly skilled mid fight weapon switcher, methinks. If you think that just because it seems extremely hard to do, that doesn't mean that nobody can do it.
the only problem I have with scripts/bunnyhopping, is that all the 'really good' ppl and clans seem to use it and so the game gets ballanced to account for everyone being able to bunny hop. so my poor skulk who cant do it and instead needs to try and ambush has rather a problem as 2 bullets kill it rather often (if you're seen in the distance meerly running rather than shooting across the screen in a hoppy type way, you die - well i die, but i suck so i cant blame it all on that)
oh and i meant to ask - on the first post, whats the thingy that uses gloves? it sort of made the example seem a bit odd <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

why are people still going on and on about scripts? Scripts are a part of the game and EVERYBODY uses them. Unless you load ns up and sit in the ready room the entiregame without moving you are using a script. There is a reason that CAL and other leagues state in the rules "certain things in game may be banned despite how they are preformed" Old school silent marine bhoppin anybody? Why is everyone so worried about the way that people want to do things, if johny wants to press F11 with his pinky toe to jump because thats what he's most comfortable with then thats what he should be able to use. If somebody is doing something that you don't approve of blame the tactic not the script.
