Urban Dead
<div class="IPBDescription">Let's all enjoy a game of Zombie Apocalypse</div><a href="http://www.urbandead.com" target="_blank">Urban Dead</a>
For those of you who don't know, Urban Dead is a free web based MMORPG game centered around Survivors and Zombies. The game is partially text based and is played out in a city, with multiple suburbs and buildings. Survivors can buy many different skills and specializations after they earned experience points from killing zombies, healing survivors, setting up barricades...etc. Likewise, Zombies earn experience points from killing survivors, infecting humans, dragging living people out of buildings...etc. The game is <!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->VERY<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> heavy on role playing, which is surprising for such a simplistic game. This is an example of how an average week is like:
Currently, my character is resting in a police station. Lately, we have been receiving radio transmissions from our neighbor suburb to the west that a large zombie horde will be approaching. We are expecting large numbers nearing 100+ zombies in the suburb anytime soon, so right now, everyone is gearing up for the siege by collecting ammo, medical supplies, and fuel for the generators. Teams are working across the suburb to barricade most of the buildings. The transmissions from the other suburb have stopped, so I assume that the zombies have overtaken the station there. We are starting to see trickles of survivors coming in, and our PDs and Hospitals begin filling up. The rest of the city hasn't been faring very well. The entire middle region is a dead zone, with 200+ zombies in some suburbs! The outlying other regions are now under assault, and we are trying to fight back as much as we can.
It would be very cool if some of the NS players here could join me and we could create a small survivor group. (We had an NS Urban Dead group a year ago, before the forum crash...)

Jesus, that was ****ing stupid. Why did you revive a one year old thread? Anyways, Does anyone here actually play anymore? Tell me your location, I am currently at Gibsonton, the northeastern suburb group. Were probably gonna have a few problems with zombie hordes coming in from the west, the entire middle of the city is infested. My handle is SOLDIER Corvus...
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Anyone still play this? I stopped bothering... has it gotten a "point" or any more "fun" since, 8 months ago?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
To answer your question, sorta. The game has added a whole slew of new features and skills since 8 months ago. There are now things like building generators, radio and cellphone communications, other stuff. Basically, the game has a point, but only if you are willing to participate. The game is now very focused on RPing, and it's actually fun. You will have to find a group to join. You meet up with your local group team leader after acceptance. Then you usually tune your radio to the group frequency and receive your team orders from there. There are many different groups around, some focused on concerted reclamation and sieges of the lost suburbs, some focused on maintaining the failing city services (communication, pubs, safehouses, labs), and some trying to ID or revive all the zombies for the NecroNet Access. Besides that, the game lacks any real "point" besides leveling up like most MMORPGs.
At least I'll be going down drunk as a stone.
For Zombies vs Survivors though, at the current state, the game is at a tie. Survivors have the biggest advantage in the fact that they can barricade their buildings, get a generator, and group together in numbers. Zombies usually have a hard time getting around this, unless they really organize themselves. We have kill teams moving through the more infested suburbs and science teams reviving as many as they can. At the same time, zombies are now beginning to move in on "green" suburbs. So it's basically a stalemate.
The Mall battles are really fun though, they usually involve 500+ players as they are such a hotspot for Survivors trying to scrounge up items. If you have old characters, I reccomend starting new ones, they game is alot different from before. Consumers are the hardest classes to start with, if you want a real challenge. Make sure to align yourself with a faction though, that's what gives this game any purpose.
First 50 turns, got into a well defended skyscraper with a generator and a broadcast tower. Rooted around the block and found four bottles of wine, a bottle of beer, a GPS unit and a DNA extractor.

wow sounds fun lol
But as you can see, i'm a zombie, heh. I'm a proud member of the <a href="http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/RRF" target="_blank">Ridleybank Resistance Front</a>. We're a large, fun horde that suits every playstyle, and bring chaos to the city of Malton by eating all the <i>brainbagz</i> unlucky enough to stand in our path of destruction. I fact, i led the bulk of the horde, the feared "Group 0" for three months, then recently stepped down. *proud face*
The RRF home is obliviously the suburb of Ridleybank, right at the center of the map. But we also annexed Barrville, wich we renamed Barhahville. It is by far the most dangerous area in the game for humans, or <i>harmanbargarz</i> as we like to call them. We even have our own pro-zombie... newspaper. You can see some examples of our propaganda posters on <a href="http://www.ridleybank.org/graphics/" target="_blank">this page</a>. Did i mention everyone is welcome to join us? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> </pimp>
About the game itself, it is boring in the long-term if you don't join such a nice community. Once you have all the skills, there's not much left to do if you don't get involved in some roleplaying. Personally, i prefer the zombie-side of the game as i find it much more challenging, and because the zombies, dare i say it, all love each others. Humans are frequently acting like retards, pking, destroying generators, and being a nuisance to their own kind. While we laugh at them and eat their brains. There are some nice human groups though.
Zombies have their own limited language (they can only use a, b, g, h, i (using !), m, n, r, s (using z), and z letters) but while you get used to it, you'd be surprised to see what's possible to say with just that. <i>Man, mah ganna ram barragraaghz, harm harmanz anh grab bra!nz!</i> or <i>Zambahz! Harmanz arh harm!ng m!n! zambahz anh bangbang aar bra!nz, bah nah marh! B!g R!babang zambahz arh ganna br!ng marh zambahz anh zmazh harmanz !n g!bz!</i>...
I would give you funnier examples but it would contains way too much obscenities for this forum, hehe. I maintain three characters, 2 zombies and 1 human. The human could join you guys if you start a group. I just logged him on, he's still alive with his weird inventory; one flak jacket and 25 fully loaded shotguns. Yes, he's carrying 25 shotguns...
Oh and lastly, take care when you post your location on a public board. Hmm brains. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Hey, were any of you guys ever a part of any of the Caiger mall sieges? I never got to participate in any of them, how many players were involved?
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Ridleybank has become one of the most infamous suburbs in Malton, largely due to the efforts of The Ridleybank Resistance Front. It, naturally, forms the heart of Greater Ridleybank.
In September 2005, Petrosjko was inspired to rally a horde to Ridleybank, which quickly grew into one of the most effective the game has seen.
As one of the core tenets of the Ridleybank Resistance Front, Ridleybank is considered a great zombie homeland. Most humans in the area as an invading force are quickly eliminated.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I've only been to that place once, and I was killed within 5 minutes, and I didn't even run out of AP points during this time.
And yes we were part of the first Caiger mall siege. In fact, it is the only battle RRF kind of.. lost (we abandoned the siege). Peak numbers were about 1200~1300 zombies chewing on the doors or laying as corpses, i don't know/remember about human numbers but i'd guess around 2000. Only some RRF representatives and strike teams (sub-groups in the RRF wich are specialized in coordinated strikes) were at the second siege. About the same at the third siege, when Caiger finaly fell for the first time in the game.
Sweet! Currently, me and 10 guys at the Oram Walker PD are organizing a raid on a nearby Military Fort. We will travel in groups of 3 and will stay in contact via radios and cellphones. We plan to break into the armory, and scrounge up as much ammo as we can. The raid will be slated to begin on Friday, when everyone has restored thier action points. From there, we will move to the fort. We will have to camp out at night in middle of our journey, it's a bit far for some of our lower leveled members. Once we get there, our warriors will shoot up the undead, while we get the lower levels into the armory and protect them while they spend a day or two's Action Points on searching.

sounds fun, but if it's fort creedy your fooked. my intel is a little out of date but I would place the zombie horde that anywhere from 30-60 zombies at the gatehouse (only entrance now) and god knows how many inside the fort.
Oram Walk now that brings back memories that used to be my home away from home back when UD first came out, I had a kickarsical character basically maxed out.
Zombie ended up wandering around, finding a guy sleeping in the street, and took him down to 6hp before running out of AP. Someone else apparently came along and killed him off, then moved on.
Human managed to DNA sample two zombies (including one with brain rot!), run away, search a museum and a fire station... coming up with a radio and FOUR pairs of wire cutters. But no fire axe, and no jacket. Was subsequently found by a roving group of PKs and beaten to death while asleep, and dumped outside.
So far, the zombie side has been far more rewarding and fun.
The police station iam currently sleeping in has 52 people in it - but iam told police stations are often targets of Zee' Horde, right? Am i safe?
Human survivor apparently was not killed off, and managed to escape the PKs. Found another heavily barricaded fire station directly next to a junkyard containing a number of sleeping zombies. DNA sampled a few of the zombies, found a metal pipe, and found a fire axe. Things are looking up. I'd like to make my way over and participate in that raid you were talking about.
Zombie. Wandered around a bit, found a survivor sleeping in the street, took him down to 30-ish hp, then ran out of IP hits for the day. Would reconnect just to change out IPs, but with only 6AP left it really isn't worth it for now. Maybe this afternoon sometime.
We have moved operations and planning to "Ayliffe Street Police Department." For those currently at "Oram Walk Police Department," you need to move up 6 squares to get to the new planning site. Here is a map. We are located at the suburbs of Rolt Heights. Oram Walker PD is directly underneath us, at suburb Gibsonton. I suggest you get here soon and start resting up for the long trip.

The journey to Fort Perry will take 2 to 3 days, depending on the Zombies we run into. We're not exactly sure what we plan to do when we get their, but mostly to retake the fortress and hold it long enough for reinforcements to regain the area. We will begin broadcasting to other groups in Malton to assault the fort on Friday also.

Minstrel Boy is a medic-turned zombie searching in the south-west end of Malton for a revive.
Yeah this game has a contact list. Are you still at Oram Walk PD, Abra? I just got there, do you want to join the fortress raid? It's 12pm Eastern Time on Saturday...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sure! Iam at Ayliffe Street PD at the moment. Thinking of moving down 6 blocks to Oram PD again. This PD just got smashed up by a "criminal". Some guy walked in and banged the generator and stomped our christmas tree... He also shouted out something about the whole Zombie horde knowing about the raid - finally shut' up when some guy finished emptieing shotgun rounds into his skull.
I have heard radio transmissions about major zombie movement in the south. I don't know HOW "south" it is. South from Ayliffe PD anyway.
Set my mind while posting this, iam comming down to Oram PD. See you there, right?
<!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->Oram PD - The building has been heavily barricaded from the inside; you can see no way in.<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
... I need that free movement skill thing, right?
Guess that was a waste of 12 AP. Well, iam going back to Ayliffe then.
