Let me just say, a woman who wears open toed shoes or sandals/flipflops that does NOT take care of her feet may as well have severe halitosis. A woman who takes care of her feet by getting a good pedicure and then painting her toenails a sexy color is <b>EXTREMELY</b> sexy in my book.
And so as to not leave the women who frequent here out, guys ALSO need to take care of their feet. You think a woman enjoys cuddling with a guy who has thick ragged calluses and scratchy toenails?!?!?

The President is probably thinking to himself "dilligafff", but the press is having a field day. And I feel sorry for Northwestern, seriously. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
What? The President is thinking what?
I don't think it's as much about tradition as it is about respect. These are dime store shower things they're referring to, not dress sandals. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Respect is about following traditions, shaking someones hand when you walk in to an interview, removing your hat in buildings, using the correct title when addressing someone.
All of those things have evolved over time and become expected, they are seen as respectful. If the culture was completely different then those things wouldn't matter at all, I could imagine a world where touching someones hands before you knew them was inappropriately intimate, where showing your head in certain places would be frowned upon etc. It's already seen as bad to use parts of peoples names if you don't know them (forenames, nicknames etc) and it's simply tradition that has decided which part of the name you can and can't use.
They met him with the right intent, they were respectful in attitude, it doesn't matter what they wear or how expensive the clothes are. They thought of them as the best they had, they'd probably go to church in it and thats when they are 'standing in front of god'. How is some guy that at least a proportion of them either don't care about or even actively dislike more important than that?
Indeed, the flip-flops match what they wore. They didn't look trashy or anything like that at all.
It's like what most people are saying, its people's perception of what is respectful and what is not. It is also the tide of changing fashion trend. Possibly now flip-flops are starting to b part of the formal summer wear attire trend now.
On a side note...

Since this topic regards footwear, I guess we're staying inbounds by discussing this. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
"Dilligafff" is an acronym that originated in the Vietnam war and means
<b>D</b>o
<b>I</b>
<b>L</b>ook
<b>L</b>ike
<b>I</b>
<b>G</b>ive
<b>A</b>
<b>F</b>at
<b>F</b>lying
<b>F</b>***
I shall agree to disagree on this topic. Granted I am old school (which is probably why I am nearly alone in my reasoning here) but flipflops are shower thongs, they weren't even DRESS flipflops, and they were totally and completely inappropriate for the occasion.
That's my opinion, we welcome yours. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Old school doesn't just mean age and I'm a big believer in showing respect, I just believe that its more about wanting to show respect than it is about ticking off each checkbox in the ettiquette rituals book.
Just as I far prefer to use proper words instead of txt spk and yet I acknowledge that its considered by many almost as a seperate language. I never swear (<i>ever</i>) and yet I don't judge those that do, its a personal preference and I know that many consider it a perfectly normal way to behave. If I got offended each time I saw some of this respectful behaviour I'd never get my nose out of the air.
However, I'm perfectly willing to disagree. How about I promise you to never wear flipflops if I ever meet you <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
But ... but ... but ... I most <b>ALWAYS</b> wear sandals. Of course, I live in Florida, and they're $250.00 Mehpistos (<span style='font-size:7pt;line-height:100%'>but I wouldn't wear them to the White House</span>)! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Hell, I'm wearing them now, they're comforterable.
They're Yellow, and they say "Corona Extra". Of course, wearing flip-flops like this is one thing, but those girls had the audacity to wear designer flip-flops, oh noes!

They weren't designer flipflops though.
I saw that picture, I think it looks really nice, it reflects the times, and I see nothing wrong with anything they are wearing, including footwear.

Meh, this is one of those things that people get oppinionated over with right and wrong, when all that is is a matter of oppinion. Their oppinions obviously reflect that flip flops are good, the reporter who decided to write such a lengthy article about flip-flops <b>obviously</b> feels that flip-flops are in coherts with the devil, and therefor, must be banned, else the article would not have been written.
Evil flip-flops!
Or do they?
Dun dun dunnnnn
Plus, just remember what our last president did in the white house <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I agree. I mean, you can see the women's <i>ankles and knees</i> in that picture. What next? Belly buttons? <span style='color:red'>BREASTS?!</span>
In my day, women used to be sealed in steel orbs. They would roll around, and you'd recognise them by the serial numbers stamped on the cold, metal shell. And I remember that summer when I first met GRE-4T526. She was rolling down the lane in that coy way of hers....
