If You Had To Choose A Religion...

Athiests and Agnostic only, please.
If you had to adopt a religion right now, what would it be? This means, following it's morals, etc.

I think I'd rather believe in the "Jewish" God, as the Jews believe a reightous man who doesn't know God will go to heaven. I think that should be what God is more like if he exists; A loving person that understands our brain forces us to be skepticle, and allows us to not even know him, but if we are reightous, we will be saved from eternal hell, etc. etc.

What are your choices?

Well, right now I'm agnostic but I'd go with Zen Buddhism if I had to join one of the formal religions.

Buddhist.. they're peaceful folk.. I don't know if Buddhism has ever been in a provocative war in the modern world at least. They're peaceful folk and all that fattyness would be a good thing, seeing as how they portray their gods and priests. Not that Im fat but then it wouldn't be a problem either. gg obese lords!

    Buddhism is 3 for 3, I guess.

I would've chosen buddhism too, but for the fact that the belief is that you can reincarnate as an animal or insect etc, as opposed to a new human... and all the consequences of that belief, like wiping ants away carefully so you don't accidentally step on one of your ancestors.

I'm torn between Taoist Bhuddist or Jewish. Taoism is a great way of life, and coupled with Bhuddist Beliefs it makes for an almost Zen life style. However, as Swift stated, Jewish beliefs do better suit my current lifestyle. But either way I'm going to hell =D

    *is currently Athiestic, "**** religion"*

EDIT: rofl @ swift, thats one of my favorite movies XD

Jeez, all you people too? For years I've liked Buddhism the best, and have said on a few occasions to my friends that if I were not agnostic I would be a Buddhist as it's the closest religion that shares my same ideals.

Yeah, Zen Buddhism rocks, appeals to my lazy nature, the fact that someone could smack you round the head or say some nonsense to you and you suddenly attain enlightenment!

It also doesn't involve quite so many stories, it's a theory rather than a mythology you know?

I mean, I can understand how people could believe in spirits but believing that this spirit said or did something thousands of years ago just doesn't push my buttons.

Well, to be fair, the original Buddhism is kinda atheism and agnostism.

<--Raised Theravada branch. Now I don't considered myself in any of the major branches, but still a Buddhist.

I'b probably go Christian just to fit in. I can't ever see myself being anything other than an antheist though.

I'd probably go for one of the ancient religions (or at least, the older ones)... like the whole Norse thing. At least they don't try to claim that their Gods were completely infallible. Plus it's just more interesting. The God of thunder/lightning (and whatever else he was the God of) being a badass who hunts giants with a magic hammer? That's better than God being a peaceful guy who just sorta sits around all the time.

Either that or Scientology. Not because I believe in it at all, but because it's utterly crazy and I wouldn't be able to do anything there (do they have sermons or anything?) without breaking down in laughter. Talk about a great religion.

I wouldn't follow the Old Testament. God comes off as a bit of a jerk in it. Probably Christianity. All I'd have to do is say I believe in Jesus, God, etc. I wouldn't have to do anything apart from that.

I'm a bit rusty but I don't think sacrifices were necessary (not saying that they didn't take place to please the Gods or ask for something)... I think I just need to fall in battle. I can do that.

I'd be buddhist... not sure which branch exactly but definitely buddhist.
It wouldn't involve doing anything I'm not too used to anyways; I try not to kill anything intentionally (I've helped eject many an insect from our house without hurting/killing them :p) and I used to meditate a lot so getting back into it wouldn't be a problem :D

I suppose I should explain a bit of buddism. There are four sects of buddism, each one slightly different then the other.

Theravada Buddhism (sometimes called Southern Buddhism; occasionally spelled Therevada) "has been the dominant school of Buddhism in most of Southeast Asia since the thirteenth century, with the establishment of the monarchies in Thailand, Burma, Cambodia and Laos."

Mahayana Buddhism (sometimes called Northern Buddhism) is largely found in China, Japan, Korea, Tibet and Mongolia.

Tibetan Buddhism, which developed in isolation from Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism because of the remoteness of Tibet.

    Since the late 19th century:
Modern Buddhism has emerged as a truly international movement. It started as an attempt to produce a single form of Buddhism, without local accretions, that all Buddhists could embrace.

Those that say they want to follow buddism, might do well to pick a sect, or at least have knowledge of which one they fall into better.

Probably Wicca, because while I'd refuse to ever congregate in a mass, The idea of having the earth as your supreme diety seems more logical and obvious.

hmm... admittedly I didn't consider the pagan religions. Some of them could be good including wicca, druidic and whatnot. Dunno if I could be bothered doing the dancing naked thing every solstice or whatever though ¬.¬

It is performed once a year at Bel Tine, (May 13th-20th depends on region) and it was the old celts that performed said ritual. It also wasn't dancing naked, but it was a day to celebrate life (sexually or not it was up the individual group).
