I use the mouse to fly the helicopters and the keyboard (WASD and arrow keys) for planes, because I have no joystick. I can fly the helicopters pretty well; I just can't land.
Flying with the mouse and keyboard is best, though it's a little more work. It would be nice if you could use the mousewheel to control the throttle, though...
Does anyone know of a program that could do that? Count the mousewheel rolls and send a key to the program at certain intervals until it's rolled the other way?
I can fly and land helicopters pretty well, and I can fly the planes ok but I just cannot land with them. I swear to god, it's impossible. I either come at too high speed or a wrong angle or something and I blow up. Any tips?

My control setup that I use for helicopters/planes goes like this. I find that it make it 10x easier to fly
Accelerate: W Decelerate: S Roll right: D Roll left: A Pitch = Mouse Up/down Yaw= Mouse left/right
Just because it's alot easier to control your roll level when it's on the keyboard, so it's easier to maintain going straight.

Just fly slowly over your sides airfield. Repairing as USMC side is easier as you can just vtol.
Oh, and if I want to land for some reason, I make my approach at around 500, and not much higher then the landing strip. Slight change in angle and I land, and immediatly hit decelerate.

As you start your decent towards the strip start to slow down, I find that in bf2 you need to go about 400-500 (kpm?) to keep flying and that about 350 is a safe landing speed. Once your about to hit the deck/ground either 1) let go of controls and slowly stop or 2) hit the brakes and stop. Doing this I alwase land 100% of the time
