I thought that was just me, Brute. I get an odd moment every now and again where ping shoots up by 200-1000 ping. It's something that happens regardless of the server. Annoying, but not much to be done about it really.
what server do you guys play on? it would be nice to play with people with half a brain... last game I was in, I had 15 deaths - not one owing to the enemy.
And they had no idea that we had gotten on the boat at all. No shots had been fired and we snuck up on them SEAL style (that would be me, HardcoreEx-NavySeal). We waited until there were four of them gathered around a newly spawned Apache to open fire.
Yes, we won. Yes, they lost. No, no casualties.. on our side.

The only way I can think of it working is by either somehow turning shaders off or forcing 1.3 Pixel Shaders to be used (no idea. Just guessing).
Tycho stated that getting memory errors is a sign that if EA had got BF2 working for GF4 cards, then many memory errors would of followed. Which isn't the case as the memory errors are to do with the program being made by a 3rd party, and its the first release, which would mean its not perfect yet. In the thread for the program, the creator states that he'll be fixing it.
if a shader involves certain abilities that are not present in previous versions, then it can't be used on hardware that does not support those abilities... best you can do is try to intercept the loading of the shader and replace it with something that your card can support, a very iffy process indeed.

how are the sounds in the new BF? i remember the old ones being really weak, and not being able to hear anything not within 30 yards? Also the guns seemed like they didnt have any kick to them and didnt feel unique. Have they changed that this go around? If so I might have to pick up this game.

basicly everything u've mentioned on there they have redone and improved big time. In 1942 everyone would run for tanks etc, this game you run on foot, its like infantry combat has completely taken over. even recoil is pretty realistic. oh you can also hear distant gun battles etc.
Pro: -The sounds the bullets make when they zip buy you is sweet -Artillery barrage sound effects are nice -Missle alert beeps are fun.
Cons: -Sounds that are far away just sound as if it's the regular sound, just turned down alot. -Distant explosions are the same deal. They should have done it the way HL2 did, with just the shockwave sound audible at distances, same with gunshots. Also they should have added echos.

Is it just me, or is the model precaching horrible? I find that for the first few minutes of gameplay, I get insane lag whenever a new model shows up, and I find that my HDD activity peaks during these times...

My interpretation of sounds:
Pros: Wonderful Punch to Everything, though not distracting Explosions are simply orgasmic. I've been laughed at(by my dad) for ducking when I hear a tank shell go off next to me. And hearing any SEMTEX explosions at all scare the living crap out of you, too(and most of the time, if you can hear it, you're probably getting hurt/dying.) Vehicle sounds are well done, believable, though I'd like to hear the tank treads more than the tank motor. Voices("MEDIC!!!") are believable, and are placed generally at the right time.
Cons: I almost never seem to hear anyone else shooting if not in a vehicle, unless I'm perfectly facing them. Terrible death noises. They sound like the same sound you get from a corpse 'burping'(the process of a corpse letting the air out of it's lungs/tubes/stomach. Its a wierd "bleh" of a burp I've been told).
