Natural-selection with real darkness and that you cant see whats right behind a strong light source, would be rather scary. Imagine the skulks actually skulking about in the dark, or a marine flashing a skulk in the eyes with his or her flashlight. That'd make a nice addition to an already nearly-perfect game I'd say. Regarding this model, its completely amazing, I would love to achieve that brilliancy in 3D modeling.

anyway, The flares seen in the human eye are way more subtle than those of cameras, and really aren't very noticable unless you're TRYING to look for them. I don't know, unless the game is mimmicking the visuals through a camera, flares shouldn't be there.

A little normal map test. I'll be modelling infestation in zbrush but I've got to wait for a new tablet. The lowpoly model is pretty much done but I'm not sure how much volume infestation could add so I'm not going to show it yet.
edit: There are some errors in this render though. I suspect it's because its not all tris.
edit 2: Not quite sure what kind of polycount I should be aiming for... 5000? 6000 since fades aren't so common?
