Hoist the sails
IT IS NOW NIGHT 1, NO POSTING!
Night falls like a dank blanket over the Obsidian Island chain. A fiery string of harsh volcanic islands, this inhospitable place has long been a haven for all manner of unsavory characters who would rather brave the fire of the volcanoes than the flame of justice. Of course, the islands are a volatile mistress; providing comfort and shelter only to s.natch it away in the blink of an eye. Countless criminals have met their end somewhere among this deadly archipelago, some the victims of the volcanoes, the reefs, or the storms, others the victims of less random acts. Add to these acts the fact that pirates regularly stage their operations from these waters, and it is quite understandable that the most captains steer well clear of the Obsidian Islands. But, as is true far too often in life, the greatest risks reap the greatest rewards.
One captain and his crew of 23 will attempt to loot the islands of their lost and stolen treasures. They may be ready for the dangers from without…but are they prepared to cope with the dangers…from within?
Captain Morgan gazed pensively through his spyglass towards the black outcropping of rock a mile distant. ‘The first of many,’ he thought to himself.
“Oy, First Mate TheMuffinMan, rig the sails and rouse that mangy lot of a crew. We make for the first island come sunrise.”
“Aye Cap’n,” shouted TheMuffinMan in return. He quickly ran for the ladder to the belly of the ship., and proceeded to most considerately scream, curse, and generally raise Hell until each and every member of the crew was awake. Breakthrough, Xentor, EMP Demon, and ZeroByte had a room just for the 4 of them, being the ship’s officers…and cook. What exactly it said about Captain Morgan that he ranked his cook ZeroByte as highly as he does his trusted officers, I do not know, but it certainly said something. Grudgingly, the crew left their dreams of riches behind. Some hoped to make these dreams come true today. Some simply hoped to live to dream another day.
And some hoped to see their crewmates’ dreams die.
But no matter what their hopes and dreams contained, all 23 men set about the task of preparing the ship for the approach to the island with vigor. Captain Morgan commanded them with no more than the strength of his presence. He strode among them, a demigod among mortals, barking out orders with steel in his tongue,
“Brute force, what in God’s name do you think you’re doing? How thick are you boy?! Theslan, Condizzle, get over here and show this blasted moron how to tie a knot.”
“I’m watching you Petco, get back to work you lazy son of a seacow. I’ll give Gwahir your share of the loot, I swear. Stop your smirking Gwahir, or I’ll give Snidely BOTH your shares.”
“This will be a day to remember, lads. This cache will be better than that haul in Makalaka and Tristin Point combined. Puerto Iglesia will be pocket change compared to this. I see you doubt me. Mouse, Pulse, Quaunaut you think I’m a liar? Is that it? I didn’t think so.”
If a triple masted clipper could move cautiously, that is exactly how one would describe the Luz de la Luna’s approach to the first looming island. As the ship eased into what may have been the safest natural harbor in the entire chain of volcanic islands, the crew collectively sighed. They had done it; they had landed on the Obsidian Islands. Their riches were close, so tantalizingly close. They only had to step out and find them.
That first step proved more dangerous than expected, however. As Captain Morgan walked down the creaking gangplank, the cracks of gunfire burst like a rolling thunderclap from the scraggly bushes perched on the rock ledges above the cove. Morgan dropped, his stifled cry lost beneath the continuing sound of guns from above.
“Man the cannons!” screamed TheMuffinMan, as he rushed to his captain’s fallen form. Before he even reached the body, the bloom of blood beneath Morgan’s head told him there was nothing he could do. As the roar of cannon fire drowned out the sounds of the ambushing guns, the first mate knelt down and closed his dead captain’s eyes. The cannons were so earsplittingly loud, it took TheMuffinMan a moment before he recognized the sound of his own quiet weeping.

Slowly but steadily, the sound of the ambushing guns dwindled and died. The victory over the attackers was a shallow one, for they had lost their captain and, with him, the last strands of optimism they had clung to about this voyage.
TheMuffinMan quickly took charge, sensing the uneasiness and fear pervading the men surrounding him and his captain’s corpse, “We can’t turn back now. This was Morgan’s dream; if for nothing else, it’s the least we can do to honor him. And the treasure is still waiting for us, lads, I can feel it. Trust me.” The general response from the crew was one of agreement, but no one person was willing to come forward to support their apparently self-appointed captain.
Swiftspear looked around at his crewmates, his only friends for the past two years. Well, there were those two girls in Tahiti…,’ he thought to himself, ‘no, they don’t count.’ Seeing them afraid and on edge worried Swiftspear; why, this band had never feared any challenge! And Captain Morgan or no Captain Morgan, he wasn’t about to stand idle and watch his friends be broken by fear.
“Oy, we can’t just cower here forever. Either we follow TheMuffinMan into the island and find the treasures within, or we leave now before those bandits come back. Personally, I’m behind TheMuffinMan, if only because I want to kill those lousy arses who took our Captain’s life.”
“I’m with ya!” shouted Snidely.
Comprox followed suit, “Me too! I didn’t come all this way for nothin’!”
The ships officers, Breakthrough, Xentor, EMP Demon, and ZeroByte, quickly affirmed their allegiance to the new captain and his supporters. “Are the rest of you traitorous dogs, to disown your own Captain and his officers?” pried Breakthrough.
One by one, the crew members pledged their allegiance to the new Captain TheMuffinMan, some with enthusiasm…some without. Their grumbles were drowned out by the cheers of the rest of the men, however, so no one noticed their dissention. But that would change very soon. Very soon indeed.
“Night’s falling boys, we camp in the ship tonight with all hatches bolted and all guns loaded and at the ready,” shouted TheMuffinMan. “Tomorrow, we begin our search of the area.”
Eventually, the crew drifted off to an uneasy sleep. All but four. There was murder in the air, the talk of it mingling with a most unspeakable word for sailors since time memorial: Mutiny. Three mouths spoke this word together, and they knew nothing of the other restless soul on their ship, nor him of them. This lone soul was alone in all senses of the word, cut off from the last remnants of reality he had clung to. Captain Morgan had been his anchor, and without his anchor, his mind was adrift in the mists. His mind lost, his sanity forgotten, the only thing he had left was the last thing he saw before his mind snapped: death.
Shadows flow like ink under the still glow of the fading moon. Two figures clad in black crept through the silent hallways of the ship, each carrying a pistol with only one bullet. They would only need one, tonight. Two shots in the dark, and the dreams of Swiftspear and Snidely went silent forever.

Day 1 will end Wednesday at 3PM EST/ 8PM GMT, due to Memorial Day weekend.
I have a few ideas on how we could vote, based on my observations from the last game. First of all, right from the very start the "lets spread our votes out" idea did not appeal to me. From my position, it was pretty clear that it was not going to help the humans. Someone gets voted out randomly, which does nothing but shift responsability from the players (even on day one, we will have some suspicions). More importantly, it leaves no one with a high chance of being voted off, which is bad for us.
If someone (For example, Slacky from TWG IV) has several votes to his name, he stands a very high chance of being voted off. This means that he will have to convince the players that he is a human, and deserves to stay in the game. The closer he is to being voted off, the more desperate he will become. Desperate people do not make good lyers, so putting someone under pressure leads to good things.
Of course, the wolves and the psychopath can exploit this. Unfortunately, at the end of the day someone has to be voted out. I would much rather kill someone who is acting like a desperate wolf, than letting random.org decide who dies. For this reason, i will hold my vote for now. Lets remember, spreading out random votes harms us, and benefits the wolves.

You have a very good point. I too am gonna hold off.
Edit: Unbolded TheMuffinMan and underlined.

I was discussing something along those lines myself but I don't see how not voting for people is going to increase pressure on the wolves. Someone has to start the bandwagon so that others can jump on so err congratulations TheMuffinMan.
This isn't an attack against you and, unless you suddenly confess to not being a true blue pirate then I'll definitely move it if it looks like you're in trouble.
The reason is pretty silly: it comes from the pre-game thread when Quaunaut (quoting from CMEast loosely) is 'attacking Snidely the wolf.' Such dialog suggest something, even though it's a jest.
Then again, it could be the wolves that saw this opportunity to imply those three, in order to get votes there... or even the psychopath...
Ugh. Thinking hurts.
ZeroByte: 2 (Mouse, Mantrid)
Condizzle: 1 (Petco)
TheMuffinMan: 3 (Breakthrough, CMEast, Cyndane)
Quaunaut: 1 (Theslan)
Breakthrough: 1 (Gwahir)

Don't ever take anything you see in the pregame thread seriously. Nothing anybody said in there implies anything, trust me.
Right now my vote goes to Breakthrough for him trying to use Muffy's logic against him. This is nothing concrete, just speculation.
ZeroByte - 2 (Mouse, Mantrid)
Condizzle - 1 (Petco)
TheMuffinMan - 3 (Breakthrough, CMEast, Cyndane)
Quaunaut - 2 (Theslan, Pulse)
Breakthrough - 3 (Gwahir, I'm_lost, ZeroByte)
Lame humor aside, I haven't ever been able to discern anything from the thread itself on the first day. As far as voting systems go, one is as good as another - either way its down to the observers to see who shifts their votes, who votesnipes and who bandwagons late.
I'm now voting for Theslan for thinking too much, you're welcome to vote for me back, I'll almost certainly vote for someone else later on today too

ZeroByte - 3 (Condizzle, Mouse, Mantrid)
Condizzle - 1 (Petco)
TheMuffinMan - 2 (Breakthrough, Cyndane)
Quaunaut - 2 (Theslan, Pulse)
Breakthrough - 4 (TheMuffinMan, Gwahir, I'm_lost, ZeroByte)
SaltzBad - 1 (SaltzBad)
He's HAL 9000 and he just made a short snappy post in a hasty defense of the people being bandwagoned (TheMuffinMan and Zerobyte.)
SUSPICION!!!
Muffy is preaching against spreading out the votes, and thinks we sould pile 'em on someone. On the good side, it gives us more information to work with. On the bad side, it makes it easier for the wolves to stay voteless.
Breakthrough used that to start a bandwagon against Muff. Either he's just following Muffy's advice, or he's a wolf starting early. CMEast and Cyndane jumped on it.
Theslan is using a pre-game line as an excuse to vote... Seems a weak excuse, as if he's going out of his way stay inconspicuous.
Gwahir has some interesting logic, but I'm not awake enough yet to process it
lost is throwing out a semi-random, since Mouse stole his spotlight by throwing the first random
Pulse with some good advice, though I slipped last game and made a pre-game comment like that (I was a wolf).
ZB sees the wolfiness in Break's position... Fourth on the bandwagon is always a bit suspicious.
Saltz, man, I just know you're going to get more confusing later, so I won't even bother.
Then a few randomish votes...
......
So far, the one of these that strikes me as the most wolfish is Break, but I don't think the wolves would move this early, much less start a bandwagon this early. At this point, they're laying low and waiting for a good opportunity to strike. They want to stay inconspicuous... They want to make sure all of their votes are random or have some innocuous reason behind them, to allay suspicion. Kind of like Theslan.
Too bloody confusing with 21 people.
