<div class="IPBDescription">Is this the real one?</div> Who knows. Also, screenshots of PS3 games have been popping up over the net.

This PS3 shot has also been featured in official magazines... it looks professional.

What do you guys think?

No. Sony has confirmed the PS3 uses Blue-Ray technology, not UMD like the PSP.

If you zoom in, you can see 'Blue Ray' on the unit.

I don't recall hearing anything about Sony contracting Kodak for the design of the PS3, so I think it's pretty safe to assume that this is fake.

The pictures of it's <a href='http://home.btconnect.com/hgi/ps3/cellps3chip.html' target='_blank'>"Cell Processor"</a> look pretty damn cool. Don't know if it's fake, but I don't know why someone would fake that.

The pictures are obviously from the same site.

Actually, I'd say that it's pretty likely that the PS3 will initally ship with a regular DVD-ROM drive instead of a new-format drive.

Why? Because the <a href='http://cube.ign.com/articles/606/606538p1.html' target='_blank'>Blu Ray team and the HD-DVD have joined forces</a>. With the PS3 scheduled to ship next year, I doubt that they'll have the new format ready in time for its release, and Sony would be stupid to push the release of the PS3 back any further to wait on new technology.

This is just my opinion though, so take it with a grain of salt, but I feel that this will most likely happen.

    *vomits*

    thats just gross....

But yea I hope it dosent look like the first one either, to easy to be fingerprinty, and looks more like a camera/projector than anything capable of gaming.

Though the CPU die looks cool and rainbow, too bad its frigging huge. (they want to sell PS3s at under 500 bucks and it had best to shrink).
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
Why would anyone just show... a die? It doesn't look like any other processor I've encountered, but there's no point in showing off a die without the rest of the cpu.

    its purty.

Though there is quite a pronounced difference in cache placement, most cores, even dual core processors, have all their cache in one general area, and an "L" shape of the rest of the transistors around it, but this one seems to have 8 smaller bits of cache and corrosponding control space (is it a multi core processor? it easily could be)

Blue Ray discs are the size of normal DVDs. That slot there is obviously labeled and only big enough for a UMD, which is about 1/3rd the size of a DVD.

They've been planning on that since the beginning. I heard about that like a year ago, at least.

And Sony wasn't going to release till "Late 2006", from everything I've been hearing. So they've got plenty of time.

What would that slot be? If the UMD is on the right (I have no idea how big an UMD is, nor a memory stick or card) Then that slot is maybe not 3 times an UMD, but it's also definitely not one UMD.

The slot under the LED looks about the right size/shape for a dvd sized disc, and the umd (im guessing) will be for umd sized stuff...right?
But anyhow, this is just faked concept stuff....
