Apocalyptic phophecies are just a waste of time and just a use of scare tactics used by religious zealots or people just looking to scare a few people. Theres a few ways we can consider an apocalypse.
1. Nuclear War 2. Mega Tsunami - Don't really consider this one because it doesnt affect the entire world really. Just a small portion. Slight example would be La Palma, apocalypse for all of the Eastern United States I would say. Still highly desctructive non the less. 3. Super Volcano - If it manages to really block the sun light for a really long time 2. Asteriod 3. Comet 4. SuperNova - I know its the wrong word because our Star won't turn into one because well I've heard it was too small to become that. But it will become large enough to eat the earth up. 5. Blackhole
My order of things I would be worried about although I'm really only worried about the number 1.
Legat, The sun disc thing, it is speculation. Just bcause an ornamental thing (yes, i watched the program) has stars on it, which match up with the night sky at the time, no dhu all three populations looked at the stars, i mean who doesnt see their beauty, and to an unknowing population wouldnt it seem unworldly and holy?
But this doesnt mean it links the three populations, and it sure as hell doesnt say in big letters "2012 END OF THE WORLD!! on it...."

Of course it is speculative. I never said anything else. Yet it is still possible since we have proof of cultural exchange in anchient times, most notably in early iron age period. The fact that we did not even know that in central europe did exist something as sophisticated as the sky disc in those days just shows how little we know about this period. Besides, what is less likely to be true? 3 different civilisations making up similar dates for apocalyptic events or the spreading of such teachings via cultural exchange?
Also, I did not intend to present the disk as the proof for anything, it was inteded as an example of how religious belief could have spread over the world.

A traded plate doesnt really link two populations tbh, and i dont see how it connects with egypt.

The plate was not traded. It was created in germany, that is scientifically proven by metallurgist. They have found the exact source of the copper that was used for the alloy. Also, on the disk are marks that set an angle of exaclty 82 degrees which is an exact measurement for the solstice (correct term?) This measurement is oly exact for the area where the disk has been found.
The connection to egypt is the image of the sun ship on the disk. The sun ship is a religious symbol that has its origin in egypt. That is speculative, you will say, and you are right. Yet, every theory begins with speculation right?

That's ok?
We know of such sharing in later times. This artifact indicates that the mediterranean civilisation spread their culture far earlier in history than we ever anticipated before. Thats all I meant to say.
Let me get home and dig out my lovely books on ancient druidic and egpytian cultures in addition to the ones on Mayan and Aztecs (They thought the world was going to end and tried to stop it with human sacrafices. Mayan's were not that brutal. (They didn't take lives just blood)) and perhaps I can find a link for it. At the very least I could find a link to the book, and thereby give you a page number, if you are that curious about it, go to a library and look up the page number I give you. :-)
(Finding an egyptian orginal of the Book of the Dead is proving harder then I thought, I have one in english. Trying to find a more literal translation. Isn't getting better.)
I do know what I am looking for, it is commonly called the orion prophecy and is on one of the plates of the Book of the Dead, it basically dates a flood (regional) back to 9792 BC, and predicts something large again to happen in 2012. (If you do google it, do NOT go by "The orion prophecy book" it is highly inaccurate.)
So we'll have a regional flood in 2012? Well, we have those all the time over here. They're called autumn storms. Mini tsunamis in a sense.
I may not have been entirely accurate about "The Core's" plot, but it's still about the core's spin stopping, causing the magnetic field to collapse. And that just won't happen right away.
DuoGodOfDeath brings up some of the more common doomsday theories. Let's see:
Asteroids: The asteroids of the Sol system are largely confined to the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Most of these are very small, and while they might be able to survive athmospheric friction and would certainly cause great local devastation if they were to impact, but hardly enough for global death. However, why would they hit us at all? They're in stable orbits around our sun - it would take a lot of energy to send a sufficiently large asteroid in our direction. Not to mention the freak chance of it actually hitting the earth. The possibility is there, but it's remote.
Comets: These are on far longer, very elliptical orbits around the sun, and as such far harder to predict. I would rank them higher than asteroids, at least. With comets, we have an actual collision risk as they intersect the orbit of earth. However, the comets are the result of a very long process, and have been in orbit ever since, just like the earth. Once again, I would classify the probability of a collision as remote: The ones that were on a collision course with earth probably collided with it long before life began.
Nova: The death of our sun is certain, if we can speak of death at all. It will eventually become a red giant, causing it to cool and expand. It will expand past the current orbit of the earth, at which point it may or may not swallow the planet: mass lost from the sun may cause earth to move farther out, preventing it from being swallowed. This hardly matters though - at this point, earth will be quite hostile to life as we know it. In the final phase, the sun will throw off it's outer layers and become a white dwarf, at which point it'll just start cooling over a very long period of time. However, the red giant phase is still 4-5 milliard years hence, giving us ample time yet. A normal nova is linked to dual star systems I am told. Sol is not a dual star system, so that should be of no concern to us. But maybe Proxima Centauri will treat us to a very nice light show some day? And finally, our sun does not have enough mass to become a supernova.
And I really don't know enough about black holes to comment on that.
Sorry about the double post, but it's been twenty-four hours and this thread could use a bump anyway. Found a relevant link about black holes, more specifically the sun collapsing into one. Of course, we would still die, but note that the sun cannot turn into a black hole on its own.
Fighter, unless you have the floods like I am have seen along the Mississippi river, I doubt your "autumn storms are anything like what was in 9792BC. :-)
Also, If I haven't had to work for 16 of these past 24 hours I could have posted my findings by now.
End of the World Scenarios
Above website has pretty much every end of the world scenario that has been thought of. I would like to point out that according to several prophecies that the end of the world is near, including a Christian one. Not scared by silly prophecies? Well we are also approaching an oil crisis which may be worse than the Great Depression was. However, a huge depression will just hurt us, it won't end the world, right? Not entirely true. The Muslims dislike Christians, and Christians dislike Muslims. Honestly I don't trust middle east nations. I think the only reason they haven't declared an all out jihad on us is because we buy their oil. But we are about to enter an oil crisis, and we will stop buying their oil. Look at how we reacted to 9/11 - we've invaded two countries so far. Imagine what we would do if we had ten 9/11's. (Ironically the Muslim hatred for us can be dated back to the Crusades. If the world does end because of this, it is our own fault [or more exactly, the Pope who led the crusade's fault]).
EDIT - Oh, and even without the religion involved, I still think we are going to see some nasty days if the oil crisis plays out the way I predict it will.

Allow me to direct you to Matthew 24:36

Rumors of Christ's return have been circulating since 70 A.D. [probably earlier]. They've all been wrong.
