I played through the first time as navy. And still found it a piece of cake (I believe this was normal). Because I had the almighty Pistol! Plus I had the Laser Pistol when I started for some reason. I dunno, I just got bored after a while.

    But the pistol is godly.

If you want a challenge you should try the OSI. Stay away from the Navy as it is by far the most overpowered class. Another thing to remember is that impossible is the only difficulty level. Really, the other ones are just way too easy to bother with.

I'd rather not play the OSI. Something about the PSI powers really rubbed me up the wrong way. I dislike using them. That and I like Guns too much.

Also, I didn't like SS2 enough to warrent a replay. It was good yes, but I don't feel the urge to go through it all again.

    LITANY AGAINST FEAR
    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

I get too scared at any slightly scary game. I think some people are just naturaly scared easily. I mean the bit in doom were that woman says "they took my baby!" Had me screaming GIVE IT BACK FOR GODS SAKE, SO SHE ISNT **** OFF AT ME!!!! AAAAAGH"

Doom as Pac man, haha, thats tainted it for me forever. So so true though.

Funny how people get their panties in a twist when anyone slanders the US, but its ok to stick the boot into any other country. Or was everyone just on the verge of saying "no irish bashing" and I disrupted it by taking a shot at America? Hahaha, such pathetic double standards.

When you're bashed as much as we are, you tend to be put on the defensive. It's unnatural really.

I'm not even American. Hell, I'm not even conserative (or any political bias) I'm just sick of hearing people whine about America. If you don't like it, WIPE IT OFF THE FACE OF THE PLANET. If you can't, shut up.

Doom 3 never scared me at all. I played through it with all settings maxed and 5.1 sound in a dark room, and I still wasn't scared by it. And the gameplay was horrid. Might as well be a shooter on rails like you see at the arcade.

System Shock 2 though... well, I played through on normal as a Navy guy, and it scared the crap out of me not with gruesome models or disgusting crap but through its atmosphere and storyline.

This is probably because I don't get scared by sudden events, like the lights going out or some enemy charging me. I just shoot them. It's the psychological stuff that your own imagination fills in that gets me, that which cannot be blown in two with a chaingun.

The same reason Silent Hill scares the crap out of me is the same reason SS2 does... it leaves it to YOUR imagination to fill in the blanks. It gives a general idea, a voice, and then lets your imagination take off.

With the Rebirth models... you don't have to imagine anything. And it isn't scary, because it's someone ELSE's nightmare.. not yours.

I've got a great imagination there's no way the original models will scare me because I'm going to think of my own enemies. It's the atmosphere that usually gets me, like in Silent Hill.

Silent Hill scared me when I couldn't see the enemy, just hear it. Then I saw them an shrugged them off. Things changed when I beat Silent Hill 2, where the enemies looked great and utterly weird... damn Pyramid Head. Then they scared me.

I actually got around to watching the video. I never understood screaming when you're startled or afraid. If I'm uneasy or scared from the atmosphere in a game, I just get a sinking feeling and turn it off. I can't press on. And while I'm the king of all pansies, even I could press on in Doom 3 before I got bored. :|

Edit: And I give him props for actually playing through this if he's so deathly afraid. I wouldn't have done it if Doom 3 scared me that much. The only scary thing was that I got 8FPS.

Silent Hill is the only game thats seriously creeped me out, and that was more because of events at the time.

Then again, at the same time, I know people who have nightmares about "kiddie" games, so I suppose its all about what your frame of reference is.

The only game that ever scared me was Ghostbusters for NES, and that was when I was about 3-4.

...I played Pitfall and Journey Escape when I was 3 (and the one in the shopping center where you're the criminal...or something like that).

No games are scary, especially Doom 3. "Oh no, please don't spawn another monster behind me!' bah. It got so obvious I knew when they would drop down/bust out/pop up so I just walked to the trigger and then turned around and killed them.

System Shock 2 is not scary. Played it on hard, navy (psi powers sounded retarded, and they still do ), it had fun moments (like the recreation deck)...but not at all scary.

In fact, the most recent time I was startled/panicked is in Thief 3 (where I thought I saw something I didn't...before the zombies come). Before that (probably the thing that killed my fear of anything in video games) I was a bit concerned about the snake room in RE1...(maybe I should get a GC to rekindle that fear?) I just couldn't stop laughing when I went in there (promptly got killed, but that snake looked funny).

Silent Hill just annoys the crap out of me, because it never lets you do what you really want to do. And it keeps going back to the 'nightmare' universe...which just wasn't fun. I think the 3rd one's pretty good though (the one with the lake...whichever one that is)...but still not scary.

Bah, me = fear proof .

No one is really fear-proof ~_~.

/me anticipates "Well, no **** sherlock."

But yea, System Shock 2 has always been one of my favorite games. They did logs correct and they have the perfect atmosphere. Everything about it was perfect. If only someone would remake it on Half-Life 2, or better yet: Doom 3.
  • TommyVercettiTommyVercetti Join Date: 2003-02-10 Member: 13390Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
SS2 ---> Doom 3 would not only scare people it would sell better than the version with 2 poly character models.
  • TalesinTalesin Our own little well of hate Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7710NS1 Playtester, Forum Moderators
Wouldn't matter. If it's on Doom3, you wouldn't be able to see the models anyway.
