Doing a *228 just updates how your phone talks to the tower, it doesn't flash the firmware. You would have to go to the store, either RS (well some) or a Verizon store.
I type *228 and hit enter, the screen asks "Start Activation?" "Yes" "No" so I select yes, screen says "Activation in progress", and 67 seconds later it beeps 3 times and the screen says "Activation Unsuccessful". Motorola T720 Florida
Alright, do this. *228, (yes) then push option 1, for english then push option 2 to update roaming capabilties. It will take about 2 - 3 minutes then it will say programming complete, update successful on the phone.
Depot you need to listen to what the operator says, it will say "Press 2 for spanish" you need to push 1, then it will say "Push 1 to program your phone or push 2 to update roaming capabilties."
You need to select option 2, remember the operator (read computer program) is speaking while it says activation in progress, so you need to listen.,
Ahhhhhhhhh, I understood you to mean an option would come up on the screen. DOH!
Is there a charge to get them to flash the firmware?
When I bought my phone, they transfered my Sprint phone book to my new Verizon phone for PHR33!
Hehehe ... let me see what I can talk the locals out of it first.
Would you believe I picked up an additional bar on my signal strength meter by updating the roaming thing? This is good because I live in a fringe area and the phone had a weak signal here in the house. Hell, I may as well cancel my landline now ... w00h00 Ma Bell - can you say buh bye?

number of times I have had some one come in with a phone yelling at me that "you sold me" (phone is older then I have worked at RS) dosn't work... Then *228 and laugh.
