Verizon Cell Phone Pwnage?
<div class="IPBDescription">Third lowest complaints.</div> I know many of you have cell phones so this might be of some significance.. or not.
Cingular/AT&T had the most complaints of any cell phone carrier.
Verizon, had the third largest, and for being nationwide that really says something. :-)

I know in most places Verizon gets the best signal and such, but up here at State College my ATT phone works <i>everywhere</i> with no problems and people with Verizon can never get signal.
I've never had any probs with ATT, either.
Same, although my phone is a POS and the buttons don't work. But when that happens, they give you a new (a.k.a. referbished phone in its place, although you do have to go phoneless for about a week or two...)
I've had nothing bad with AT&T/Cingular for the 2+ years I've had my phone. Although, I had Cricket before, and anything is better in comparison to Cricket.

CORPORATE TOOL!
<3
Actualy, dosn't surprise me (then again, I am a corporate ****, And How!)
Sprint merging with Nextel is going create a few ripples where I am, but then that is because both of them orginate here.
As for the Europeans among us. Last time I checked you guys only had one kind of cellular phone, the GSM. Unless that has recently changed, you can only have one kind of phone.
Here in the US, we have two different kinds of signals, CDMA and GSM. The CDMA is gernerally reguarded as faster for applications and business uses. GSM requires less towers to cover the same area but they are significantly slower then CDMA.
Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, Alltel, Cellular One, Qwest, and U.S. Cellular is CDMA.
T-Mobile, Unicel, and Cingular/AT&T are GSM.
Thansal: I'm not a corporate tool I was just surprised that a regional carrier (Cellular One) had the 2nd most complaints. We have them here and I've had many people tell me that they are better then verizon. Obviously, those people are still using the old analog networks.
Not everywhere. Here in Oklahoma and in a few other states they have for some reason been required to remain seperate legal entities and actually compete with each other. Meaning I can't use Cingular's towers for better reception, which pisses me off a great deal.
In RS in NYC we sell sprint and verizon (and virginmobile and tracphone, and tracphone DOES NOT COUNT!)
And in NYC, Verizon is the best. No questions.
But, as I point out to my customers (b/c cellphone returns suck) the only way to know if you will get reception is to ask people who live in the area (aka, I don't know if you will get reception at your summer house in *****, I can tell you that you will get reception anywhere in NYC that a cell signal can reach you)
There are places that Verizon sucks (though most major cities are covered very well), and in alot of those places another carrier will dominate (forinstance Cellular One around you)
Thansal: Cellular One has worse coverage, which is why I don't understand some of the customers.
(sigh) The joys of partially working retail.
do you sell cellular one?
And I don't even try to reason with people who claim T-Mobile is better then Verizon (yes, there is a reason they are cheaper!)
what can we do do make his phone better? (aside from *228 and getting him a new one <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
You can't do that?
but but but but
YOU CAN FLASH THE FIRMWARE?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
one of my coworkers had to friken take a customer's phone to a verizon store (god those places suck) and have an onsight tech do it there (either that or have a celphone returned on him, and we know that sucks <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
next you are gona tell me you have the stuff to transfer phone books.....
o, yah what we are talking about with *228 is just that.
Type it in, hit send, wait a few secs, hit 2 (update your roaming capabilities) and wait.
this basicaly can do wonders for increasing your cellphone's reception.
(oh, and cyn, can you actualy explain why? every one who works arund here just propigates misinformation)
Then when friends and other assorted people would come over my house, they'd get a signal and I was like, "What provider you got?" And they all said, "Cingular!". So I said screw Verizon, because I had missed a lot of calls because friends call me on my cell and don't think to try my land line which is a real hassle.
So when my contract ended this year, I switched. What do I think? Well I get missed calls a lot and have to call somebody back because my phone only rang once, and sometimes but very rarely I don't get a voice mail for like 24 hours, and the signal isn't always as clear as Verizon "Can you hear me now?", but all in all it is worth it to be able to use my cell from inside my house. In fact, I'd get rid of my land line if I weren't renting out my spare room.

Yes, I can flash the firmware here.
Yes, I have the software to transfer the phone books, we charge $5 bucks per transfer reguardless of how many numbers. Purely store profit.
What *228 is doing is updating the roaming capabilities (read, know where the new towers are). I shall explain this further.
Every once and a while a cell phone company will put up new towers or upgrade the towers signal strenght. When this happens many of the older phones (read old software) needs to be updated in order to correctly speak to the new towers/software. Since that is the case, the older phones need to be either flashed, or have their software verison (read tower handling ability) updated.
That is the non-technical answer, if you wish to have a more indepth answer thansal I can, but it gets very very technical and unless you have worked with the insides of a cell phone, (read in a tech shop) its hard to understand exactly.
Flashing someones firmware upgrades everything in the phone, its like upgraded to a new OS, but you don't have to worry about the losing RAM/HD space issue. Since phones can normally only hold a set amount of data, (read non-smart phones/PDAs) the OS they are using doesn't get any larger when upgrading.

*blink*
owie you hurt my logic.
And cool, I had the basic Idea of that down <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
oh, and I hate you for haveing the stuff to transfer the phone books.
"what you can't transfer my phone book? never mind, I am not going to buy this."
Shhh... don't tell my customers that.
RS had a deal with all cell phone carriers actually.
Some stores offer cingular/AT&T, AllTel, US Cellular and etc.
I just happen to live in a non-GSM Area. (Well mostly, there is only one GSM provider here and they suck worse then sprint. Can't even go outside the city 1/2 mile.)
I have never not had reception.
