Because the point of combat isn't combat. Its to learn the base dynamics to regular NS. As is, the GL should stay in because it does in fact help in destroying the hive. If their just randomly firing off from a remote location: Don't go in that direction!

It is a standart destruction weapon in TSA arsenal... Very useful and needed in combat; as the aim of the TSA is to destroy alien lifeforms as quick as possible... In other words; "Kill them as they born"... a.k.a. spawnkilling... ^_^

GLs, as well as all other weaponry, should be able to be limited e.g. if you play tfc any given class can be limited by setting a cvar.

As NS or NS Combat doesn't give you that option, hit the modNS.org Forums and get this plugin which limits classes, or this plugin which limits grenade launchers in combat. AMX Mod X v1.00 is required.

would be cool just to be able to disable such weapons, like disabling AWP in cs. The GL doesn't even require that much skill, it seems to be more based on the physics of where the nades are going to bounce off of, or the pitch at which you fire them from.

4 GLs, 2 HMGS = 3 minute co game.

If you don't have 2 fades and a lerk ripping their base apart by the time they have 6 upgraded marines.. you have larger trouble than the GL'ers..

and if you think more lmgs, hmgs and gls are always in the same group wether it means walking to the hive or camping a corridor in the end.So whats the point of any gun?or you want close combat guns or smthing like a lmg gets a option to "mount" the knife on it.

I fail to understand your concept of 'skill', core. Here, we have a weapon firing a slow moving parabolic-arc projectile, with a mag of four before a significant reload process, and the possibility of trajectory physics to change the location of impact. Looks like plenty of opportunities for skillful play to me...

Combat is supposed to be NS, only fast, more furious, and with a toned down strategic component to make more casual games possible. It's not supposed to be a different game. Thus, I doubt we'll remove the nade launcher anytime soon. Have fun with your plugins, though.

Actually, the point of combat IS combat.. that's why it's called "Combat". The real base idea was to create a faster, more combat-oriented game mode for those who either haven't learned or don't have the time to play a full game of classic.

A nice aside is that it teaches you the basics of tactics, upgrades, and a few other principles of regular NS.

Why he thinks grenade launchers don't count as "combat" is beyond me. It's called "Combat", not "Close combat", and the idea was never to create a close-combat game mode. Grenade launchers are part of the mode and the game and have their weaknesses, learn to exploit them and you should be fine...

Jp's are here to stay. Onos are here to stay. Mines are here to stay. Resupply is here to stay. Etc, Etc.

The NS team can't personally cater to everyone because they got annoyed during one game. If you feel something doesn't fit in and there are suffiecient mods to change that, then go ahead and petition your regular server to add that plugin.

The only thing I would like the NS team to do is include some more skulk-friendly maps in official rotation. Even in CO_ they get slaughtered in the early game (if the marines can aim). Maps like Angst are good. It has lots of spots for skulks to hide (even tho must don't...). Only thing I hate about angst is the ladder and how open the alien hive is. Other than that I consider it a perfect map.

Because its in ns mode? I mean everthing the Kharaa have in ns is in combat except most chambers and structures. So to my way of thinking co should also include everything the marines get in ns (except some structures). Webs are certainly not useless in CO. A persevering gorge can easily just keep replacing webs that keep being destroyed by nades and welders. Webs are also useful because they protect against solo jps flying around the hive and vents.

If guys in a team get too much GLs, they will have a hard time with fades and onos.

GL is useful to clear way and web for other weapon. It is not that good otherwise.

Perhaps Combat should be played in a more Offence + Deffence system (sorry about veering of topic a bit here)
I mean, 50 - 75% of the team is offence and the rest is defence. If I was new to NS and played Combat, I would (as I would have been told CO is a learning device for NS) assume that in NS marines don't need to defend their base, as if they do, they lose regardless.

With and offence defence system, make the objective clearly the opponents CC and Hive, but make the victory conditions - Total damage caused to said structure - So a constantly attacked hive, which is healed from <10% 5 times Would be a victory over a constantly attacked CC that got welded from <10% 2 times. (being tired and not remembering HP of the structures is bad i know :/) and the other victory condition obviously destruction.

There is also the possibility of another game type, where both teams need to take and hold rooms, maybe 5 rooms, where destruction of the CC/Hive OR the holding of the 5 rooms means victory. This I believe would work with the current upgrade system in combat. And show the importance of map dominance to newcomers.

Right on topic -> GLs are essential to combat because they are a very good terror weapon, they can take alot of preasure of a constantly attacked base, and can take a hive down very quickly.

All the weapons, offencive and defencive are needed in combat, for the same reasons they are used in NS maps.

Only Issue (and its not even a minor issue i have, as it doesn't bother me much) is if Combat is meant to be for learning NS play, why the alien team can upgrade more then once from each chamber.

Another thing. Shotguns are a lot stronger than hmgs, but shorter distance. To pwn hive you need shotguns not hmgs.

I think the problem with the GL is the instant mindset of going into defense. Hence the reason why most GLers stay back and spam grenades. They simply can't take on anything fast, or something that has a load of health.
But when you see a skilled player with a GL and a JP, and he goes on the offensive, it's pretty much all over before then.

Like Quaunaut has stated, the point of Combat is not Combat. It's to help smooth out that REALLY steep learning curve (especially aliens) and for casual play. If it weren't for Combat, we'd have way more people dying in NS games with a higher lifeform.
In Combat, people will learn how to use a lifeform to some extent, instead of this situation in an NS game:

NSPlayer : Wow this lifeform looks cool.
*NSPlayer runs off, and gets riddled with holes because he didn't know that bilebomb doesn't hurt marines*
NSPlayer : WTH, this sucks.
- NSPlayer has left the game.
