That's about as plausable as saying the previous resident of the house had Mantrid's name and ordered the books without updating his Amazon account.

You know, you may only be 14, but buying a book for information purposes is no crime and certainly nothing to be ashamed of. My personal book collection, other than the Pratchett and Adams, is mostly non-fiction about murder, philosophy, drug abuse and pretty much most stuff that someone of my age (at that time, was about 14 too) "shouldn't" be reading. Hell, the damned satanic bible is still sat on my bookshelf.

Information is a good thing, and i applaud you for seeking out information before going head-on into things, even if your parents were to "catch you" with these books, they sound reasonable enough people on the whole, and if you sat down and just spoke to them that it was purely just for informational purposes, i wouldn't think there would be too much controversy.

One thing though, with regards to the age issue, i wouldn't get involved with masochism, sadomasochism, domination, or other "deviant" sexual acts, you really are too young to get involved with that kind of thing. By all means, read up, get information, make your own choices, but i have to say that 14 is probably too young to actually to take part in such acts.

Oh god... I would have gotten a never ending stream of s**t if my mother found anything like that.

who needs those kind of books in the information age? that's what the internet is here for! that said, buying them in person might have been safer...

you could say the box is a present for your parents themselves and avoid opening it in front of them that way...

at 14, I barely knew what a girl was -_- if your parents found out, and if they're truly liberal and trust you, they'd probably dismiss it as a phase, which it very well may be... that isn't to say they wouldn't be mad / weirded out, but it would pass...

One last bump. "Female Domination" arrived today, which is great timing, since I just finished "Consensual Sadomasochism". Now it gets to cycle through all the other people who want to read it.

The second package wasn't a problem at all. My mom had to go to work, so she dropped me off, and I was able to open it with no one else home. And, if she asks what was in it, I can brandish the book on Art Deco I bought with it.

Private interests kept private. Found people with similair interests. New book to read.

    Life is good.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and 2000 posts. That makes life even better!

    Nice luck, ehy?

Too bad there wasn't more interesting 007-style sneakery. I guess you could have used a barrel of fuel as a shield between you and your parents and then escaped down a conveyor belt and flown off, but I guess it's all for the best this way.

Yes, but like a car salesman operating over MSN, it's not always telling the truth.

That said, wikipedia has a decent amount of (mostly truthful) information.

That's what we were referring to. I don't think that anyone is bothered by the fact that he's reading books on sexual extremes; I did the same stuff at 14-15. No big deal. We just don't want to see him actively pursuing the BDSM world at his age. It's dangerous, and not all of it is really fun and games. Some of it is real torture, and if he's thinking with the wrong head, he could walk (or crawl) away seriously hurt.

But, there's nothing wrong with it being a fantasy until he is old enough. When he is several years older I for one promote him to "actively pursue" whatever the hell he pleases. Yes, if he does right this second he *could* end up seriously hurt, mainly because the other person probably won't know what the hell they're doing. If you start small and be careful, there's not much chance of anything bad happening. It's not like he's going to get his balls chopped off.

I second pretty much everything Coleman's said. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Congrats on getting the books without a hitch. And I forgot to say this earlier, but bravo for taking the steps towards a subject you have interest in, instead of flinching away from it.

That said, I do really recommend Venus in Furs for you, Mantrid - I think you may get a lot out of reading it. Other than that, good reading and good luck in furthering your understanding. I actually spent some time with the BDSM community in my mid to late teens, so I've had about as much exposure to it as possible without being an intimate member, I guess.
