This happens with every single game, even MORE SO with highly anticipated ones. Why would people be suprised Halo 2 is any different? HL2 will be leaked early as well, just like every other game...
"Leaked", eh? Maybe it's a demo, and when you finish playing through the 1st level, a screen'll pop up, saying "If you liked this, then buy the FULL version!"
No, it's not it's a source leak. It'll come out on nov 9 just like Halo PC came out on said date when it was leaked a month prior to release.
Games that have been leaked prior to release (that I know of)
Half Life 2 Halo PC Doom 3 Sims 2 Zombie Panic (bastage leaker guy...) more... ?

19 floppies for GTA? Yup.
But yeah, i fail to see how anyone can be shocked about Halo 2 being leaked. Pretty much every single game is leaked, especially in recent years, and it's probably not going to stop for a long time.
Very few games, however, recieve a treatment such as HL2 has. I guess that's a price they pay for developing such a highly anticipated title (And no, not a price they should pay).
The thing is, the dev companies have nothing to do with the leak, or at least very rarely do. Leaks usually occur when it's gone gold, or nearly there. They happen when it goes to mass production or from review copies that are distributed far and wide. They also come from retailers since they still recieve a game before it's actual release date. Infact, any link in the fairly long chain from developer to retail stores it could get leaked at, and probably will be at the first given opportunity. You have to be pretty niave to believe that this doesn't happen all the time, especially with a title such as Halo 2.
Oh and yeah, i own a softmodded Xbox, did it myself and i will say right now, XBMC is the best damn thing to happen to a console ever. I can simply ftp anime and the like straight onto my Xbox's HDD and watch them through XBMC, gone are the days of having to watch through my crappy little monitor, hello big tv.

But then you need a USB thumbdrive and a Controller USB adapter (for some game, PSO maybe? You can get them free from M$ if you're clever). A few copies here and there, and voila, softmodded. I watched a guy do it in 5 minutes. IIRC Microsoft still hasn't fixed the problem in MA which lets you do this in the firstplace (it is THEIR game). If I didn't already have a media comp, I'd buy an XBox and do this. Oh, and on a totally unrelated note, you can run OS X on your XBox (albeit at uber-slow speeds). I borrowed a copy from my school to test this on my comp (same procedure, minus the softmod) and a 3.6GHz P4 is capable of emulating OS X Panther at the WHOPPING speed of 700MHz (running as a G3 :S).
Back on topic: As people have said, every game is leaked pretty much. Just nobody cares unless its a biggie like Halo 2 or HL2. Sucks for Bungie, but I read on slashdot that its a French version, so that should at least help them slightly. People will probably want the story, and unless you want to learn French... Damn now I want to buy an XBox and Halo 2. It'll take forever for the PC port (if they know whats good for them, they'll have one).
if they knew what was good, they would have Halo 2 MP able to play on PC and xbox on the same server...but they are so stuck on making it XBOX exclusive they don't do it
