<div class="IPBDescription">Making your kids veg, by lying to them</div> So this is a rant. Maybe. Or a demonstration of what lengths people will go to in order to convert others to their case. What I am talking about is PETA. PETA has never been my favorite group of people. They apparently lack the ability to convince people to listen to them using standard methods, and therefore attempt to scare, gross-out, or employ other methods to make people listen to them. It generally isn't very effective. I can't view a group professionally if they refuse to handle themselves profesionally, and this is no diffrent.

In paticular, PETA's child sect is bad. Very bad. SA had their kids website (and I use that term as loosly as possible) as the awful link of the day. It was terrible, horrible. It was them blatantly LYING to kids in order to get them to go veg. I will site two examples.

<a href='http://www.petakids.com/cal/804/1.html' target='_blank'>http://www.petakids.com/cal/804/1.html</a>

This is meant for viewing in a small IE box - which is why it probally doesn't fit your window. For those who don't care to click, what the message says is this:

1. Milk will make you fat.

2. Milk contains cow pus.

Yes. Let me say that again. <b>They are telling kids not to drink milk because it contains pus.</b> It really makes sense when you think about it. Milk is white! Pus is white too! Oh wait, we can claim, without ANY EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER that cow milk contains pus! Because they are both white, kids won't be able to tell and will refuse to drink the milk because it contains pus! Then thousands of cows will have to go free! Or somthing!

And people wonder why I can't take these people seriously at all. But wait, there's more!

<a href='http://www.petakids.com/vegkids/chumps.html' target='_blank'>http://www.petakids.com/vegkids/chumps.html</a>

You probally heard about this fiasco in the news. PETA goes into schools. PETA gives "interesting" trading cards to kids and tells them that their parents are murderers. Parents are understandably irritated. In paticular, I'm looking at the green box. In paticular paticular, I'm looking at this quote.

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Most chickens in stores have germs on them—which are often nothing but chicken poop. Gross! These poop-covered chicken pieces are disgusting, and they can make you hurl. And if you’re eating buckets of greasy, fatty drumsticks and nuggets, don’t be surprised if your belly gets so big that you can barely zip your pants!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The total stupidity of this one statement exceeds the total stupidty created in IS since the beginning of the NS forums. Apparently, even if you cook your chicken, all store-bought chicken contain dubious germs which are in fact chicken poop. How germs are chicken poop or vice verse is left up for debate. Apparently even if you cook the chicken (which is proven to kill most germs, BTW) you aren't safe from the deadly CHICKEN POOP GERMS! They will (somehow) make you throw up! This is another case of lying directly at kids in order to make them stop eating meat. Poop == gross, as I myself very much knew when I was a young child. Yes, I used insults like "poophead" back then. If we say chickens have poop on them, kids won't eat chicken! BRILLANT, PETA! Also, the whole "if you ever eat chicken you will become fat" thing is a very nice touch.

I'm going to make a point. PETA wants to save endangered species, like lions. PETA says we are treating the lions cruely and we should allow the lions to live free, which is good and fine. However, PETA is also saying that we should ignore the needs of OUR species because lions are better then us somehow. They think that instead of being equals with animals, we should do everything we can to make sure other animals are superior to us. However, if given the chance, those animals, like lions, wouldn't think twice about killing us. If the population of the earth had four times the lions as humans, and the lions were activly trying to kill our species on a daily basis because of some theoretical even that PETA caused - would they be happy? When will PETA be happy? Do they even have a goal?

So, I'm done. I just can't stand these people. The ONLY cool thing about the PETA kids website is <a href='http://www.peta.org/feat/meatrix/' target='_blank'>the Meatrix</a> which is an uncommonly cool flash animation. Oh, and <a href='http://www.petakids.com/chicklife/index.asp' target='_blank'>a chicken's life</a> is pretty intresting if you can sit through it. I'm not even going to go into some of the stuff they imprint on kids in that thing.

PETA's actions are totally unjust and quite frankly pathetic. It isnt their responcibility or their job to tell children what to eat or drink. It's the parents decisions to decide what goes in their kids stomach.

Yes, let's encourage children to stop drinking milk. Maybe they'll start drinking more fizzy drinks, which are much healthier for them.

Where's that ::rolleyes:: smiley when you need it?

A Chiken's Life seems to indicate that all the eggs will become babies even if left unfertilized. Also, why doesn't PETA realize that animals kill and maim each other in the wild? Hell, male lions even kill other lions cubs if they become the leader.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Funny how they totally omit that chicken is yummy-tasty? Must be because of all the chicken poop that clings to it.
But yeah, us europeans don't have the PETA. We just have mad cow disease. Enough to put some people off meat alltogether. And really, feeding sheep to sheep? No wonder that went wrong. But I digress.
I don't really get what's so wrong with milk. Maybe american farms are radically different from european farms (which I somehow doubt), but a european milk-cow doesn't exactly lead a horrible, horrible life.
I could go on a similar rant about Greenpeace, "Eco-activism gone Money-machine", but I'll save that for another day.

Any self-respecting vegetarian knows that PETA is a horrible organization.

They're sort of half-right about cow milk. Not even. Cow milk wasn't meant for human consumption and is unhealthy in LARGE amounts. (Regular amounts are fine.)

Also, pasteurization kills nearly everything and removes nearly everything that is healthy from the milk anyway, so it doesn't make much of a difference, in the end.

If I had my way, human milk would come in cartons at the grocery store. Raw milk, not pasteurized crap that removes most of the nutrition. Especially when they ADD calcium to it, because you can TASTE it and it's horrible.

Not to mention PETA euthanizes 2/3rds of the animals that are given to it for care, which goes directly against their own actions in protesting animal shelters who euthanize animals.

Video cap from Penn & Teller's show, Bull***t:

From their tax files. Walk in Freezer? Wha? They don't store meat there do they?
    <img src='http://helios.acomp.usf.edu/~eboston/bscap004.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Oh thats right, they use it for <b>animal cadavers</b>.
    <img src='http://helios.acomp.usf.edu/~eboston/bscap007.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

They are also against animal research even though Mary Beth Sweetland, Vice President of PETA, is a diabetic and uses insuline developed from medical testing on dogs.

    Her response?
<i>"I don't see myself as a hypocrite, I need my life to fight for the rights of animals."</i>

I'm sure alot of convicted criminals don't see themselves as guilty either, the facts prove otherwise.

Of course milk will contain some small amount of cells, including white blood cells from cows. It's not like it's any significant quantity or anything to be much concerned about.

In humans this is seen as a good thing, breast milk contains white blood cells too. They help the childs immune defence.

Somatic cell counts(~white blood cell counts) are taken on milk in order to ensure that they aren't too high. If there is a large amount of cells present it is indicative of an udder infection, such as mastitis. There are limits to how high the SCC can be before the milk is classed as unsuitable for human consumption. This is most likely what they refer to as "pus" and isn't really much to worry about.

There's limits to the concentration of cholera bacteria in drinking water that are allowable, and it isn't something unrealistic like 0, this doesn't really bother anyone does it?

<a href='http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996297' target='_blank'>http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996297</a>. Sewage waters a tenth of the worlds crops. You can't just say that, 1/10 th of the worlds vegetables are covered in poop!!11. You must avoid poop ridden fruits and veggies and become a carnivore, sallads are evil!!!11

Kids don't understand that it's not realistic to expect food to be perfectly clean and free from bacteria even before you cook it. Proper hygiene when handling food will still be required for a long time. Kids don't understand that animals are on the whole far from cute and cuddly creatures that care for anything else than themselves.

While limiting the amount of meat you eat to something sane is healthy, and not treating animals poorly is an admirable cause, what PETA is doing is very wrong.

    Who remembers MADD Vs PETA

PETA thought it would be a good idea to start a "Got Beer?" Campaign. Going off on how Beer is btter for you then milk. One serious problem?

they did this on College Campuses!

Animals don't kill for fun or sports. Now here, Im not saying that peta is really being super effective here but I still think plain torture and cruelty towards animals is wrong, not matter how you put it. Treating life as if it didn't mean anything is wrong whether we're talking about human life or animal life. They, too feel if they're being hit and thrown at with objects. I also don't understand how blatantly some of you just say "Meh, f*** other species, WE the hairless apes rule the world for sure" that's just the wrong attitude right there.. It's all about solidarity and respect of life.

Not only is Peta using scare tactics to turn kids into vegans. They also are against people having pets and are against helper animals such as seeing-eye dogs, and they even euthanized about 1,325 of the animals they took in claiming it was better than leaving them on the street. They can compare the bilion of chicken killed to the holcaust.
