picking the right lvl
So iam trying diffrent sens mostly between 2-4 but i cant really make sure wich that is the one for me. 2 can be hard when spinning around alot, 3 is kinda normal maybe a little too high, 4 is way too high or very good in close combat. (im currently switching 3 when im marine and 4 when im alien)

My question is how can u determine wich is the best for u, any tests?, or do u have to feel for yourself as im afraid that i have to, or if u play enough with 1 u get used to it?

I cant really move my arm very much when im moving the mouse around the mouse is kinda small. I also get slowdowned because im getting sweaty after a while making it harder to glide with my entire hand. I touch the func with my thumb (sometimes), lil finger and wrist. Also could it be a big problem in gaming that my mouse is small?

This probably won't help much, but try really cranking your sensitivity up and working your way down. It took a little bit of getting used to, but I found that a sensitivity of 12 worked best for me.

Mine is 6.7 .... personal preference. It just feels right at that setting

As said, you just have to play around with it - it doesn't have to be a whole number (if 2 is too slow, and 3 is too fast, what about 2.5? for example)

Just try different settings until it feels comfortable!

Weird, everyone's mouse is different. I can't survive on anything less than 10. 16 is perfect for me...

You should be able to turn at least 180 without getting close to going off your mat, that seems to be the general rule that people follow. I find you need to sacrifice some of the precision of a low setting to get the extra manouverability you need in NS.

You could always just have an alien.cfg and a marine.cfg, for different setups, like sensitivity... or one for each rase etc... (but thats abit too much work for me )

6 = alien
5 = fade (dunno why...)

I use 12.5. How did I find that? I've tried 10 then 11 then 12 then 13 and it was too much... 12.5 was just perfect. You have to play and see if it fits you well. If not, change and play some time again. and so on...

Its quite hard to compare like this because the sensitivity is also based on the windows mouse settings.
Windows has a speed setting and acceleration setting, Personally I dont use the acceleration and have the speed in the middle. Then in game my Sensitivity is 6.

accel off is easier for tracking, and in general the sens should be the lowest you can manage, low sens helps at long range, and does about as well as high sens at melee range.

Same as with FireStorm; tried and found the magic number 12 the hard way.

Your most desirable mouse sensitivity in NS depends on your windows settings and mouse type as well.

How about setting your mouse sensitivity so that you turn around 180 degrees in-game, when you make one natural movement with your wrist?

I got that tip from a friend and it has helped my aim/game *alot*.

I use 5 because thats the default (I think...) i always get used to using default controls so that when i go over to a friends house, all i have to do is press "use default" in their control list to get it back to what i use it works just fine for me in all aspects (cept for skulk for some reason... dunno why) but i can aim well with shotty and w/e, while still being able to fade correctly.

Ay i've probably found my sensitivity 3.5 im using when marine alien to but it might change.

Well my sensitivity is 15, I tried 20 and i found it to be a little too frantic... Anything below 15 is too SLOW for me, I can't see to find how people play with that low sensitivity...

Rofl... I use 180 degrees ingame per inch of mouse movement, with no acceleration.

Yes nothing like being able to turn around when you're moving down a hallway to catch a skulk dropping from the ceiling going for a back attack on you.

Wow,
All the low numbers surpirse me actually. I use 17 or a lil less all the time, I can go 180 so fast, I love it. It did take time to get used to though, but like I said, I think it's well worth it.
• ThisIsASheepThisIsASheep Join Date: 2004-07-09 Member: 29813Members
I think it really depends on your gear:
If you got, for example, a Logitech MX500/700 with GlideTapes and a Speedpad, i think you don't need a very high sensitivity.
As I can see you seem to use a good mousepad with some logitech mouse, so I think for you 3,4 may be fine, where others need sensitivities up to 20.
Try turning it a bit higher and play with it for one or two days, you'll see how easily you get used to it.

uhm, 17?
maybe it depends of the settings in windows and what kind of mouse is using during the game.

It'll differ for everyone as we all have different windows mouse speed settings, etc, etc.

I generally try to go for a slow-medium sensitivity as marines as I have to aim precisely..in the end I just keep firing my LMG until they die 50>skulk

And a higher one for aliens as your just have to get 2-3 bites and then quickly turn to your next victim.

It's totally a personal preference thing. The 'perfect' sensitivity doesn't really exist. If you only like to move your hand and not your arm, use a high sens, but realize that it will make things harder to hit at distance. Since a great majority of battles in NS are fought in melee range, I opt for the ability to turn around with a quick flick of the wrist, over being able to hit a target down a long hallway, which doesn't happen very often in NS anyway.

Low sens is better in games with lots of distance combat. CS, DoD, those sorts of games reward being able to headshot someone from across an area so big you'd never see it in NS. I find it much better to be able to twist around and follow a fade that just blinked past you in a small cramped hallway. If you have a lot of mouse pad to work with, and don't mind moving your arm around a lot, go with a lower sens. It'll make it a bit easier to get those kills at long distances, but you'll be whipping around a lot when you get into close range.

I use sensitivity 11 but I like high sensitivity. Oh and don't use a mousemat, it makes that mouse move slowly and in a generally weird way, the desk will do.
• JimydJimyd Join Date: 2003-02-08 Member: 13289Members
I use 1.875 for marine and 2.25 for all aliens.

And i have a mx510 with 1 notch right from the very left,(slowest). This is with no mouse accel.

I can't see how people play above a sensitivity of 2.5
