[mwip]high-definition Fade

<div class="IPBDescription">more like the original concept...</div> Well, here is the finished model of a fade I started a few weeks ago and have been working on pretty lazily. It weighs in at 1860 triangles (a bit less than double the default fade)
model in wings 3d and Lightwave. I'll start UVs tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully I can texture it well enough on my own, but I will need a <b>good</b> and <b>skilled</b> animator to rig and finish him off. I plan on doing nicer versions of every other kharraa as well.

any comments?

ps: I'm wearing a black foam hat.

    I'll probably add a tube or two when I figure out how to make some nice and clean ones that aren't just intersecting geometry.

    very nice model, i like it and would use it.

    I agree though, a few more tubes and detail though.

    Looking good, smoothing is a little rough around the feet and the face looks a bit off for some reason.

    Looking very good.

    1: The fades head is a bit skulkish, perhaps flatten it ever so slightly.
    2: You could add more detail in the chest area like modelling the rib cage, etc.
    3: The Fade has a mini-tail like tube coming out of its back, which seems to be
    missing from your version.

    I'll be using this when you finish it.

    I was going to model the ribcage, but it would be more polys for something you can't really see with HLs lack of shadowing on models. I will add more tubes (workign on that right now). I may or may not put in the hanging tube on the right side of his arse. it looks a bit silly and not in the concept. I'll play around with the head a bit to make it more flat...I'll be back with updates in not so long.

    Looking good.
    I'd make the transition from claw to skin a bit more straight.
    Also, the acid rocket thingy looks a bit too small.

    default anims would work, however this doesn't fit on the skeleton. The default fade is ugly and looks very little like the original and kickass concept. if the default animations and skeleton could be tweaked onto this, then i'd be all for it.

    right back at ya.

    as promised...new progress.

    -new feet
    -flat head
    -bigger acid rocket thingie
    -more tubilies on the back
    -1970 triangles...still reasonable. i make the cut off at 2000, but I don't think i'll have to go that high.

    no sexy shaded views with nice edges this time, I didnt feel like re-edging it in wings.

    p.s. no longer wearing foam hat
    p.p.s. the planes on the face are for alpha teeth.

    You could probably use the original skin, just tweaking it a bit.

    I was thinking more along the lines of 6 256x256 or at the very most 2 512x512. I did the UVs for the arm last night, so today I'll try and finish up the rest.

    Is that an HL thing? I've seen a few pros that go for that way. It doesn't have to be 6, but It's more organized. why will it lag the game though.

    Brig's rine had 11 meshes and it never lagged me.

    Umm you have a nice computer?
    Brigs models always dropped my fps a bit. 5 fps or so..

    And plus it was only weapons. When you put it on an alien, such as the fade, where there is alot of them. bleh.
