that reminds me, we had a kid as comm the other day, really like 10, complete with british accent...
anyways, most teammembers were kinda sceptic, so one asked "comm do u even have a plan?" and he said on voicecomms "yes i have a plan. the plan is to upgrade our armory so i can get an hmg". well, thats about all he did all game, and after it was done upping, he got out of the chair and got himself his hmg. sigh. one of the guys on team was pishing himself laughing though, and cried "ahahhah baby commander" over voice comms. oh the hilarity.
back on topic, i think girl gamers just take girlish names BECAUSE theyre girls. erm, yeah, why not, i mean, theyre different irl, so why not different on the net? i reckon theres about 70% girls with girlish names, and 30% that take a general name, just to avoid extra attention.

Heck, I actually prefer little kids whining over older voices - at least you don't expect them to know better. Its kind of pathetic on the other hand hearing a 25 year old nerd virgin complain into the mike about how unl33t you are.
Personally, I've never found high voices annoying. (Which is obvious when you look at my music selection...) What annoys me is:
1) People who hold the mic button down all the time. 2) People who do 1 while saying "Okay... There's a skulk... No wait, it's a lerk... He's moving across the room... He's left, no wait, he's coming back... He saw me... S***! S***! GRAHHHHHHHH!" 3) People who feel the need to insult someone just because things didn't go their way or that person got to the equipment before them. (I've heard "WTH YOU F*ING N00B YOU SUCK WITH THE SHOTGUN GIVE THE DAMN GUN TO ME YOU IDIOT" before. I'll take an 11-year old's voice over this guy any day, thank you.)

I find it strangely ironic that most of us have disagreed with the media's and public's view on us gamers, and then start a thread (a long thread at that) basically discussing women as if they are another species. Let me clarify: A group of online gamers, discussing women as if they have to justify their online nicknames simply because they are women.... Yeah.
Anyway, on topic: I changed my name to X_Stickwoman for a while and started going into servers (and chatrooms) that i don't usually hang about in. And trust me guys, there's a reason many women may not want it known that they are women. i was asked out more times in a 30 minute game when i was pretending to be a woman than i have in 16 years of being a real man.
You don't know scary sticks until you meet the mentally disturbed people or get your own stalkers (worse when it's both in one). I've still got some unpleasant memories from PSO/RO I'd rather forget =s
Yes... while you are in game and just trying to enjoy NS if some friends of yours come online.. (notice.. rgb guys, I used to idle in there chat a lot) you do get asked out more.. and generally tend to use a non-female sounding name.. which is why I like Lanfear.. for those who haven't read the WoT series.. they assume it means Fear of LAN's.. (networks) so it works out nicely. :-)

This ahas actualy been a point of interest in my house as of late (my 2 house mates and I are all playing CoH, and a few things came up)
1) Some one brought up (different forum) that they can always tell female gammers. One of the things they gave was that females don't swear. My (female) house mate has decided to have one of her chars swera like a salior now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
2) There have been a few threads as of late on the CoH forums about 'nude' chars (make your char's skintone match their spandex). This is actualy an offence that will get your charachter deleted. One of the thread starters was complaining about their 'tastefully nude' char getting deleted (female toon). This person eventualy went on to describe their toon as 'yummy'. Now do you question what this person's gender is IRL? I sure do.
I could be mistaken, but do females often refer to their selfs as yummy? (gemmey? Lanfear?).
Though I have no problems with transexual, transgenders, Dragkings/queens, homosexuals, bisexuals, or just about anytihng (furries don't bother me, and I aint to sure why they wierd people out so much).
I do have a problem knowing that there is a decent chance of the person behind the scantily clad cat girl I am partying with is actualy said 30 year old from sandusky.....
Yet at the same time I don't mind males playing female toons (my other housemate does this). However, creating a sex object as a char, just seems squiffy....
I have never referred to myself as yummy.. more then likely it was a guy. Although I can not say that for sure.
Although I do know a few women who WOULD say they are yummy but it would require heavy intoxication, very heavy intoxication.. and being tricked into saying it to begin with. :-)
You seem like quite a tolerant person Thansal. As for the person who said that, it was most likely a guy. There are probably some girls who would say things like that in a <i>similar manner</i>, however, chances are it is due to some insecurity in that person's nature or simply that they posses an attention seeking nature; which we must acknowlege is common in both men and women.
I overanalyze people sometimes but as far as this situation goes, perhaps we should follow the old adage, "let sleeping dogs lie", and leave this alone? I mean, a girl's motivations to do anything is by human nature, not going to be <b>that</b> different from a guy's. So why go about this topic treating them like they are not just another person?

Seriously though, a lot of female gamers hide their gender because sometimes the attention is too much and if that fails then the stalkers are almost enough to send most people running. I once had someone grow very fond of me over a chance meeting in a PSO lobby. His char had a fun part to his name and I'd played with him over it and from there he got somewhat infatuated with me. I didn't realise until quite some time later that he went to a 'special school' and even broke some of his furniture in rage fits and whatnot when his parents wouldn't let him get online to talk to his net friends (especially me). He wasn't the worst example I can think of either, one manic depressive who was rather creepy ended up holding some of my Phantasy Star Online equipment hostage (it was stuff I kept for helping new players, pretty potent stuff and I was attatched to them as they'd originally been the objects i'd started the game with, especially my mag). He refused to give them back until I told him my real name and stuff =s As you can guess he never got my name and though I got my stuff back it ended with him whining about how his life was so crud and he never got any good stuff. Add to all this he desperately liked me afterwards because I'd still been kind to him during this whole depressive lapse thing and you've got one of the 3 only times someone earned a place on my blocked list for MSN. I kind of feel sorry for them but there's only so much you can deal with before it starts frightening/angering you =/

anyways, most teammembers were kinda sceptic, so one asked "comm do u even have a plan?" and he said on voicecomms "yes i have a plan. the plan is to upgrade our armory so i can get an hmg". well, thats about all he did all game, and after it was done upping, he got out of the chair and got himself his hmg. sigh. one of the guys on team was pishing himself laughing though, and cried "ahahhah baby commander" over voice comms. oh the hilarity.
back on topic, i think girl gamers just take girlish names BECAUSE theyre girls. erm, yeah, why not, i mean, theyre different irl, so why not different on the net? i reckon theres about 70% girls with girlish names, and 30% that take a general name, just to avoid extra attention.

3) People who feel the need to insult someone just because things didn't go their way or that person got to the equipment before them. (I've heard "WTH YOU F*ING N00B YOU SUCK WITH THE SHOTGUN GIVE THE DAMN GUN TO ME YOU IDIOT" before. I'll take an 11-year old's voice over this guy any day, thank you.)
And last, but definitely not least...
4) People who complain about someone else's voice. Just because someone has a high voice or because they're young doesn't mean they're an idiot and I'm pretty sick of people going "Hahhhahhh, get out of here and come back when your testicles drop, kid" to someone playing NS when he's actually playing better than they are and reporting useful information to the team. (By "playing better than they are", I mean that he's working as a team, following the comm's orders, moving in groups with people and not humping the armoury or begging for guns the whole game.)

Anyway, on topic: I changed my name to X_Stickwoman for a while and started going into servers (and chatrooms) that i don't usually hang about in. And trust me guys, there's a reason many women may not want it known that they are women. i was asked out more times in a 30 minute game when i was pretending to be a woman than i have in 16 years of being a real man.

This ahas actualy been a point of interest in my house as of late (my 2 house mates and I are all playing CoH, and a few things came up)
1) Some one brought up (different forum) that they can always tell female gammers.
One of the things they gave was that females don't swear. My (female) house mate has decided to have one of her chars swera like a salior now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
2) There have been a few threads as of late on the CoH forums about 'nude' chars (make your char's skintone match their spandex). This is actualy an offence that will get your charachter deleted.
One of the thread starters was complaining about their 'tastefully nude' char getting deleted (female toon). This person eventualy went on to describe their toon as 'yummy'. Now do you question what this person's gender is IRL? I sure do.
I could be mistaken, but do females often refer to their selfs as yummy? (gemmey? Lanfear?).
Though I have no problems with transexual, transgenders, Dragkings/queens, homosexuals, bisexuals, or just about anytihng (furries don't bother me, and I aint to sure why they wierd people out so much).
I do have a problem knowing that there is a decent chance of the person behind the scantily clad cat girl I am partying with is actualy said 30 year old from sandusky.....
Yet at the same time I don't mind males playing female toons (my other housemate does this). However, creating a sex object as a char, just seems squiffy....
Although I do know a few women who WOULD say they are yummy but it would require heavy intoxication, very heavy intoxication.. and being tricked into saying it to begin with. :-)

I overanalyze people sometimes but as far as this situation goes, perhaps we should follow the old adage, "let sleeping dogs lie", and leave this alone? I mean, a girl's motivations to do anything is by human nature, not going to be <b>that</b> different from a guy's. So why go about this topic treating them like they are not just another person?
Seriously though, a lot of female gamers hide their gender because sometimes the attention is too much and if that fails then the stalkers are almost enough to send most people running. I once had someone grow very fond of me over a chance meeting in a PSO lobby. His char had a fun part to his name and I'd played with him over it and from there he got somewhat infatuated with me. I didn't realise until quite some time later that he went to a 'special school' and even broke some of his furniture in rage fits and whatnot when his parents wouldn't let him get online to talk to his net friends (especially me). He wasn't the worst example I can think of either, one manic depressive who was rather creepy ended up holding some of my Phantasy Star Online equipment hostage (it was stuff I kept for helping new players, pretty potent stuff and I was attatched to them as they'd originally been the objects i'd started the game with, especially my mag). He refused to give them back until I told him my real name and stuff =s
As you can guess he never got my name and though I got my stuff back it ended with him whining about how his life was so crud and he never got any good stuff. Add to all this he desperately liked me afterwards because I'd still been kind to him during this whole depressive lapse thing and you've got one of the 3 only times someone earned a place on my blocked list for MSN.
I kind of feel sorry for them but there's only so much you can deal with before it starts frightening/angering you =/
