And to the comment about "Why have a lightning gun and a sniper rifle in the same game?" They play very differently. The sniper rifle is a weak, but instant weapon. Its only good if you can get a headshot. The lightning gun on the other hand, is incredibly powerful, AND can go through multiple people, but is a delayed shot. It really depends on your play style.
Also, Bells and Whistles? I dunno about you, but it plays VERY differently. And the blades on the sides? They make it MUCH harder for someone to dodge(but also require someone who knows that their doing). And about the crushing with the Mantas- it may damage your ship, but if you know how to do it well, it won't(I personally have spent all day playing 2k4's demo, and have subsequently learned how to be close to perfect with them).
My fav vehicle is still the Buggy thing(why can't I ever remember the damned name?!). For me, its perfect- Fast, quick to kill, and everything for it is about timing. <span style='color:red'><3</span>
Oh noes a screenshot! EDIT: The textures are only fugly because the demo forces you to use Normal quality. Probably to make the demo a smaller download.

dunno... just been playing it and the weapons all still feel quakey to me like UT2k3. People seemed to go down faster in UT and the weapons felt like they actually hit half the time. Most fights on foot turned into minutes long strafe-fests. The main thing I like is the vehicles but bleh.
Not tried assault yet but my verdict on onslaught is go play XMP. It's better by far =/
It's amazing to me how between 2003 and 2004 the game went from being junk to pure gold.
UT2K3 was pure deathmatch - but it wasn't fun. The maps weren't fun. The weapons were bulky and felt weak.
UT2K4 has the same weapons - but they don't feel weak anymore. The whole game feels faster paced to me, and much more interesting. It's as though I'm playing Tribes 2 with better graphics/netcode. I like how they took what worked in 2003 and kept it (that being the graphics), and took what didn't work (that being everything else) and made it feel a whole lot better.

I dont understand this game... just played it for about 15mn and got the worst headache ever. Firstly I couldnt keep track of how many weapons I was carrying and how come I can't ever kill anybody?! Ruby: The best thing is to go into "Instant Action" to get yourself used to the speed. While even that isn't even half as fast as the actual multiplayer, it'll get you used to the absolute speed. Good luck, and STUDY the map- it'll give you the edge(like on the onslaught map, the redeemer on top of the tower that I'm the only person whos ever noticed its existance).
a big thing for DM and CTF is your translocator. Tink blink for fades in 1.04 except it actually works 100% of the time and you can aim it. You bring it up with q, fire it with left trigger, and go to where the disk goes with right trigger. You can also bring up your last used gun by hitting left and right mouse button at the same time.
