meh, I admit I didn't play much of 2K3 but it just didn't seem DIFFERENT enugh from UT....
Same weapons (slight tweeaks), just better gfx.... so what?

Same weps? From what I can tell, NONE of the weapons are the same(and those that are are just included for the modders, like the sniper rifle). And even if so, with the way UT2k3 played, once you got good and understood how their supposed to be used, its great(not to mention learning the over a dozen types of jumps there are is funner than 'eck)

Oh, and just to say something:
UT is now going to be a yearly-release thing, much like many sports games. Yes, little will change each year. No, its not re-releasing a game with stuff that should've been there before. Its gonna slowly refine itself until they just gotta add new stuff, and then just keep doing that, forever.
Just start thinking of it as what the devs want it to be: A sports game that you play with your friends.
Like patches, but you pay!
yeah I saw that coming. ever since they were heavily plugging 2k3 as a sport more than "just a game" which is kind of putting your foot in your mouth, but whatever works, or fails to.

True. 1 difference though: Have you noticed patches in ANYTHING rarely add anything? A new version adds a lot(like NS 3.0, and UT2k4). Not to mention, if you didn't like 2k3, you wouldn't get 2k4 anyway, would you? So don't bash it
I'm getting it. Thats for sure. I loved 2k3(even though UT wasn't too good in my opinion), and 2k4 is just the same-ol-goodness with a ton of new stuff. Yay
It depends on the company, and I wouldn't bash something I enjoyed so nya.
Like Blizzard, their 1.10 patch for Diablo 2 was about half an expansion set worth of content.
Bioware, Developer made modules for Neverwinter Nights
Valve, Countless mods. (made by the public, sure, but valve kinda has to release the SDK for that to happen)
Then you have companies like EA.
"Oh MAN why do we have to patch, come on...just throw in a couple new sounds and slap it in a box and ship it for 20 bucks"
I think that when you release a squel it should be just that, not a new number, a title, and perhaps a few new models. (Face it, 2k3 had vehicles, run the vehiclemap) Anyway
I bought 2K3 because Unreal 1 was good, but no more for me I fear. It just dosen't feel any different to me gameplay wise.

I hate the concept of sports games also (well the madden style games atleast)
I want a sequal to be a sequal, not a "Ohh look, shiny grfx and a few more new toys"
Again, I LOVE UT (I used to Play UT in the CS Lab ALOT..... "Is Tafryn sniping again?" "Some one get Tafryn off of the friken tower" "DAMIT TAFRYN STOP SNIPING FROM OUR TOWER" (note: Tafryn wasn't me, was another person )
However this entire 'yearly update' thing is just kinda... lame.
Like some one else pointed out, DII 1.10 did ALOT to the game, segnificantly changing it.
I guess what I would like to see is at most yearly expansion packs, that you can either buy UT2K10 or just buy the expansion for ALOT less.
meh, I don't like the concept of a game just sitting in my closet, never to be played again simply b/c it is one year old....
You know, UT2004 is adding more new content than UT2003 currently has, it's not like they added new skins and 5 new maps and then charged you.
And you're also forgetting the bonus packs released for 2003. Those added quite a lot, and I'm willing to bet that there'll be at least two for 2004. Also, I'm gonna get a little repetition going here and say: RED ORCHESTRA.
Onslaught mode reminds me of Planetside, except on a much smaller scale and faster paced, which is a good thing. I'm betting RO could use the design well and create a sort of "front line" in their mod. I'm shaking with anticipation.

The game will ship on 6 CDs (one DVD can hold all this) and is reported to have a minimum install of 5.5 gigs. I have played the demo and I can say that it's like Halo multiplayer on crack.
Runs insanely well on my system, in fact it seems to run smoother then HL while looking wonderfully sexy with all the settings at normal and nothing turned off.
My only gripe: The multiplayer code dosent seem to be as smooth as HL, which was odd considering this thing is made for multiplayer.
Gameplay is awsome, not the sniperfest I thought it was going to be due to the fact you can just hop in a vehicle and kill any campers easily.
I only wish I had the cash to buy this when it comes out
1) Most of the vehicles are either retarded (Scorpion? Seriously I used it once and one of the weapons broke off.. GG), or total RIP OFFS of Halo (Just paint the Matra purple, GHOST! Paint that flying thing purple. BANSHEE! Even the WEAPONS are the same).
2) Still same old POS weapons. For gods sakes get some new material you stupid incompetent retards. Not to mention the new models make them look like crap, they look like something I could pick up at a toy store, I was half expecting the Shock Rifle to start flashing and making electronic 'ray gun' sounds.
3) Anti Vehicle Missile spam isn't cool, you can barely survive 10 seconds. It's worse then fighting the TR in Planetside.
4) Comebacks are pretty much 100% impossible in that onslaught mode. "Blue Node Destroyed!"..."Red Node Bui-Red Node Destroyed!" "Blue Node Building!"

There's that stupid Impact Hammer...
There's the Assault Rifle, except now you can carry two (Gee just like... oh unreal tournament... that's nothing new)
There's the semen cannon (bio rifle whatever it is)
There's the shock rifle, now with ugly stupid tubes behind it.
There's the pulse rifle, now with ugly stupid tubes on the side.
The shitigun (minigun, whatever, it still looks like a piece of **** made in 1925)
The sniper rifle (oh look it's back... again nothing new)
The lightning cannon (which in 2k3 bore striking resemblance to the LASER RIFLE IN TRIBES)
The flak cannon (yawn)
The rocket launcher.
The redeemer, laser pointer.
What's new? Some stupid missile launcher, basically a rocket launcher that works only on vehicles.
Some stupid mine launcher uniquely named the 'Spider Mine Launcher' that has the most original idea of having mines that crawl after enemies (Or was that called the Vulture? Huh)
Some other POS that I never use.
Face it, the developers are talentless hacks appealing to the latest generation of gaming retards that will buy absolutely ANYTHING that has a gun in it. They can't make anything new. They can't make anything unique, all they can do is take tired, recycled ideas and change them. ****, some of the vehicles are rips 100% out of Halo.
Did you know there was a littleknown mod for UT called.. NeoCairo that featured:
7 Heavily Armed Mechs with multiple, sometime up to 6 (I think) weapons? 3 Jets (Space Fighters) 3 Hovercrafts 1 Robotic Laser Drilling Rig
Man UT2K4 IS SO UNIQUE! IT EVEN HAS MECHS- Oh wait, those were really stupid looking TURRETS.
I don't know what's more dissapointing: This game, or the fact that so many idiots think it's actually cool and unique and are going to pay $50 for it.
I spent the last two hours playing Onslaught. Pretty fun with vehicles, though the mode itself isn't new (think TFC flagrun) and it's damn hard to make a comeback as others have noted. [edit: I meant warpath, not flagrun]
Weapons are nice, dependable, and somewhat balanced (I hate sniper-type weapons except the Shock Rifle combo) but still sound like they're missing bass. The weapon models are quite good-looking except the Biorifle. Geez, why does it still look wimpy?

Like I mentioned earlier: Onslaught and Assault.
Assault making a glorious return to UT=win.
New gameplay mode with players vying to link nodes in order to destroy the enemy base. Said mode is played on huge maps, with awesome vehicles including a hovercraft-majigger that can do a Mario-esque butt slam move=doublewin.
