I try to aim around them the best i can. For small icons, paint is easy to use. Actually joniing spectator mode will get rid of all of the hud icons too.

What I did was I used the Clone tool in PSP8. Works pretty good.

Here we see Squad 4 in action, in the core. Watch and be amazed at their teamwork as they clear the premisis of all xenoforms.

I think those would be cool if you removed the lens flares. The rules say that you're not supposed to edit it other than remove hud icons.

About removing the HUD icons:

Dont know nothing about Paint, your only hope is to aim somewhere else. And when you cut off portion of image cause of icons, use black mask (not white, it tends to be too obvious *cut*)

Photoshop: Nothing is easier. Use healing brush or other similar. Press Alt+click somewhere near the icon and follow the lines. Most visible problem here is motion tracking circles which are actually very little line spread on big oval. Even it looks big, a circle is still a circle and it is known to be empty inside.
Clone stamp also works, but "healer" is much faster here. The bigger hud icons are much harder to remove, best way is to cut the camera shot to line them out. Though clone stamp helps here much and is easy to remove every hud icon from darker pictures.

Nice way to take good screenies is also alwayskeep in mind to take those screenies. In every game even in middle of action keep in mind.
I binded snapshot key to "T" so its easy to take fast shots when opportunity strikes ("T" is now my new upgrade: 500$ digi-camera).
Also tapping makes much easier to capture firing in action and lucky poses. Its matter of luck to take those good pics, this is combat photographing and you cant shout that marine to "Raise your left elbow littlebit, you look fat that way."
And remember kids, no lens flares. You can get so amazing pictures its hard to believe they are actually from this game.

Ill post pics later today. Hope I got some good action on 'film'.

it is rumoured first release of HL had shadows toggleable by r_shadows command or something like that(HL with absolutely no patches), but i cant know if thats true, havent bothered testing.

If you look at some earlier screenshots of HL, you can see actual shadow's on the ground. It looked neato except for it being pretty angular, but they looked good for the time. I heard from someone that it was removed due to concerns about cheating or som'n. Really wish it stayed around for single player though.

Well yeah, good for me to say "Keep always in mind to take pics" while myself took 40 pics in two days and only this one was hardly worthy to work with.

As keen eye might notice down there, that shade has something to do myself shouting: (Team) Mazkaline: Move it you sissy onos!

...for some reason I felt like removing it from this pic though.

Those aren't really shadows, they're just darkened circles. They don't reflect the model's position at all.

After 40 minutes of blood, sweat and mayhem. It is time to collect all three pictures from first five minutes when I still had the Beast controlled.

Rawr.

(these are actually totally different shots, that skulkie died instantly in first shot and I happened to wander in same place later on.

><" I still can't find an effective way to remove the stupid HUD stuff 0o" Sorry bout that!

This is on co_angst, right near the ladder

The marine is covering for his buddies (off screen) as they descend the ladder

If you can see it, there IS indeed a skulk hiding there in the darkness, you can BARELY see it

I know, cause it came out the SPLIT second after I took the pic, and it got PLASTERED with lvl 1 shotty full in the face

Ok, this is a two-part post

This is part one: I shouldn't have turned before I took the pic... most of the stuff is off screen (an onos, a fade, and a gorge corpse)

The marine looks to be polishing his trusty shotgun, which just took out 2 high and 1 mid level kharrah

ANd here is part two:

The same marine, same life, and same people (the gorge came after the onos)

Just now it's in Marine Start

This depicts a single marines Valient attempt to defend the base against the fade that blinked in, but while fighting he notices the onos behind the fade 0o"
