Natalja Seadjin: A Female Marine Model

based on the artwork forum character
Hi! For my first post in this section I've attached pics of my very first 3D model: it's based on the character I've created and for wich I've done some sketches and illustrations in the artwork forum.

The first few pics give a version with no helmet and the ones that follow show the same model but with a helmet.

Please notice that I've created this model entirely from scratches, and that I had for ref' only the pics I've drawn, the original marine concept art and two in-game screenshots since I had no internet connection at the time I did it in order to get more ref' material...
I don't have the ModelViewer thing too (or didn't know where to find it) but if someone can tell me where to find it I would be very thankfull
Given the fact that it's an entirely custom please don't be too harsh

The "no-helmet" model contains something like 2300 polys and the model with helmet contains less than 2000 (1940 or so I think), if people may want to know about it.

If you want to get more info, the artwork thread I was talking about is located here:

Introducing Natalja Seadjin... - in artwork forum

I'll also post a thread in the Fan-Fiction Forum as people seem to be interested in fan-fics about this character

Feel free to comment and give tips as I'm only beginning in the 3D modeling area

very, very nice. just make sure her elbows are animation friendly, that is, they can deform in the relevant directions without becoming uber thin. it might be a good idea to add some elbow pads/protectors to hide the deformation if its easier than re-doing it.

also might pay to contour the armor pads on her upper legs, they look kinda ugly and overly bulky.

excellent work, chop a few polys and she'll be ready to rock.

Wow... Very nice. The helmet version is the best i think... Make sure her armour is like the TSA marine, and it will be superb.

    The ears are fine.

Pretty cool model. Maybe consider increasing the torso size a small tiny bit (mostly around the upper chest). Not "Make the boobs bigger!". I mean make it a bit wider. Look at some references. Women's torsos curve outwards as they go towards their arms. Head looks a little big too. Other than that, pretty cool.

Very nicely done. Her head's a bit big for the rest of her; it should be about 1/7th of her height. Also, her torso looks about as large as it would be sans armor... she needs a little bulking up.

    What's the poly count?
  • RuByRuBy Join Date: 2002-12-12 Member: 10732Members
I agree with coil, I think you should also add shoulder pads to really lay it down as a TSA marine.

    Aha, gg reading skills.

In that case, I will make my omnipresent request to optimise this to <1500 polys. ^^ Think of the little people.

Looks like there's more detail in the head than you really need (around the eyes, for example) - you'll be able to lop a lot of that off if you add a helmet though. Her arms look a little on the skinny side too - she's not very believable as a soldier with such a small upper body.

However, it's an awesome model - good work.

edit: ah, my modem flaked out after the first bunch of pictures - I didn't see the helmet version.

I agree with the others, make the head a tad smaller, beef up the upper section of her torso into a more distinct v-shape, and you've got yourself one sweet as female marine model.

A single request: do not release the model too soon. regardless of how much demand there is for it. It has potential to easily rival and maybe overtake the official model and if you make it too soon that would be a great waste.

Get as much help and tips as you can from the very skilled people around these forums and try to work with some of the people on the team if they can spare it, especially skinners, since flayra didnt do a half-assed job when picking the team. and if you cant grab a skilled one from the forums who has experiecne with other player models, not weapons/buildings/aliens

Hmmm....I think she should have her TSA suit, but no helmet. Looks really nice, though. (TSA can now stand for The Sexy Assassins, thank god)
