This thread ought to be nuked with the release of NS. . .
However . . .until then, I have a story.
The map was Hera. I joined late in the game. They had 3 hives. I was standing around in reception, building up a base. I watched . . the deathmessages suddenly roll in. It came as little surprise. With three hives, people are gonna be dying left and right. I double checked my scoreboard again and realized that, to my dismay, nobody had "Rein" marked next to their name. In other words, we had no Infantry Portal. Plague dropped one and an alternate command console in reception. By now, our base consisted of at least 4 or 5 turrets, an armory, a resource node, Command Console, and one infantry portal. It looked ugly. I took two team mates with me and we stormed through the Holo Room. It was empty. Even the double nodes were untaken. We moved on, past an alien RT tower in the next room, walking under catwalks. We wound our way to the "Green Hive" (I still call it by its old name). Its acutally called "Computer Core". Knowing the drill, we fired no shots and waited for our turret factory. Setting up a turret factory, Plague dropped a turret and told us to not finish it. Of course, we were going to do the simultaneous strike tactic mentioned in previous stories. However, we were overzealous and the turret snapped up and alert. It began blasting the hive, and the hive's pleas for help were doubtlessly hitting the hive sights of the entire alien team. "KILL IT" I typed over team chat. Holstering my pistol and drawing my shotgun, I got underneath the hive and began to pump shells as fast as I could click. BAM! chik click . .BAM!. My two teammates streamed LMG bullets into the hive as the turret spun its gatling and, within 30 seconds, the hive was down. Not bad for the price of a shotgun, Turret Factory, and one turret. Well, any minute now, a bunch of Onos' would be here. That would be the end of us. Might as well keep up the momentum. "Neeeeeeeexxxt Hive!" I type and we head off through a vent and drop down about 3 rooms away from the Archiving hive. I still have my shotgun, but its low on ammo. We reach a large room with a generator cylinder in teh middle. Catwalks are strung around this octagonal room and a gummed up, unopenable door leads into the bottom of the Archiving hive. I lower the lift to the catwalks and we all jump in. As we ride up to the catwalks, which lead into archiving, I hear the stomping of an Onos. Running past, I rush into the Archiving hive. As I round a corner, I run face first into a wall of webs. I look in front of me. Arrays of turrets and defense chambers to heal them. THIS is NOT good. Backign up quickly, I struggle free from the webs and run back to my comrades. I hear LMG fire and the scream of a teammate amidst soudns of stomping. The Onos is coming up the lift. I look at the railing. Its only 3 stories up or so. I jump off as my teammate is gored. Hitting tab as I run away, shotgun in tow, I look to see everyone dead. Ah . . . so here we are. I run around a corner as I hear the lvl 5 stomp after me. Ducking quickly behind a pillar. I watch and giggle as the Onos barrels right past me down the hallway. I wait 10 seconds, then step out of the shadows. Maybe they left the CC . . . I run back through the holo Room, the way I came. I run up to reception and look around. Empty. LMGs scatter the floor and bullet holes stitch the walls. The node streams freely. I run to the lift leading back to the marine start. I lower down and then, realizing I want to die, type "Kill Me!!". No sooner do I say that do I hear a Flap . . .Flap . . Flap flap flap. . . Flap. Lerk. I pull my shotgun barrel upwards to the top of the lifts shaft. I watch as the lerk crawls to the edge of the shaft. He sees me and I see him. I dont fire. Timing is EVERYTHING with the shotgun. He drops down and clearly, wants to bite my face off. He drops right on top of me and CHOMP! takes away most of my hitpoints. BAM! chik click . .Splattered lerk. "HAHAHAHAH!" I type and raise the lift again. I ride up and hear the sounds of a skulk coming. He comes up the ramp and leaps right at my face. BAM!! .. . dead skulk. feeling extremely naughty, and very spiteful, I type "HAH! I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction of killing me". I pull up the console and type "kill". Team two wins. hehehe, sure, I lost the war, but I won the battle.
hehe, giving up isn't really a bad thing when you don't really have a chance... It strikes me that aliens have far more of a chance of coming back from the edge than the marines do.

IT WAS THE SCARIEST THING EVER!!!! I think the onos had some H4Xx going.....

Heres a little clip of a game from NS_Nothing.
We were playing a small game with 3 to 4 players on each side. I was playing as aliens on Nothing (a rare occurence, given the shottitude of the map). I had been harassing the enemy, and as soon as I got enough RPs to evolve to a lerk, I did so. Flying off, I decided I'd scout out to see if the powersilo, possibly one of the easiest for marines to secure, was still under out control. A builder was following me. I rounded the corner entering the hive and saw an array of marine turrets lock on me, I dodged out of the way just before I was shot up. The gorge decided it wasnt worth the effort. I felt like tryign something gutsy, and I rounded the corner. Just as the turrets locked on, I leapt into the air. Flap!. I pumped my wings up, skimming the top of the entryway to the Powersilo. Soaring over the turrets and the perilous liquid below, I pumped my wings straight up. Seeing a long, thin, shelf along the top edge, I arced around and swooped in, untouched. Peeking out over the ledge, I surveyed the base. A phase gate, turret factory, and 3 turrets. I began to fling spikes at the nearest turret, when A few marines leapt out of the phase gate and looked up at me with calculating percision. They took aim and fired on me. I recoild back against the wall, half of my health gone. In an attempt to throw them off, I jumped up against the roof of the silo, 5 or 6 stories up, and flapped madly across to an opposing ledge. I did this repeatedly, sending them into confusion as I flung spikes down below. Almost dead form the LMG fire peppering me from below, I landed on a ledge and pulled up my popup menu. Sliding my cursor over to gorge, I began devolving. I hateched and placed a turret along the edge. The marine turrets below locked on and began firing, but they couldnt kill it fast enough. I completed building it and then began healing spraying it madly as I saved up enough for a defense chamber and another turret. I placed these and began to grow them. Eventually, I was shot to pieces, however the marines proved unable to kill those buildigns, and they drew the attention of the turrets away from any potential attacking aliens.
wait... something's wrong... we are in a ambush... prepare yourself.
/whirls around, Commander drops meh HMG; HA. /me sees skulk

Stupid ?, but why didn't you attack the phase gate first, instead of the turret? Only reason i can think of isthat phase gates have more health then a turret. Other wise all i can assume is that it was a poor tatical move on your part to allow marines to phase in, if it could have been destroyed.
well, I don't think the lerk has much health. In order to destroy the phase gate, he would need to open himself to turret fire and even then, the marines would probably have gotten through. What he did, was attempt to remove a more immediate source of damage.
