Just out of curiosity what kind of settings are you using there quazilin? I'm still trying to figure out how to get that effect where the lights seem very bright and cast brightly on directly nearby surfaces, but the who room isn't that way.
Rendy, I'd suggest losing the ~trn_ns lights on the top there. It just looks wierd having them in that location..... can't think of any suggestion for how to fix it. Great work though.
quaz, you should make it a ns_ map, there are alot of co_ maps already <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b>Mr.Ben:</b> any reason why all your screenies, plus your avatar aren't showing? <i>I really need to see what everyone whooped at on the last 2 pages!!! </i> <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b>Quaz:</b> I vote ns_ map... same reason as sk84zer0...
Screenies should be working just fine unless snarkpit died durning the night, cheers for pointing out my avatar died, didn't change the url after c4 finally died.

The minute I looked at that screenie, I wondered the same thing. I have a heck of a time getting texture radiosity settings, in-game gamma settings, and hlrad gamma settings to produce satisfactory results.
I have a vague suspicion Quazilin may have used light entities in combination with overlays and texture lights to get that awesome look... hmmmm.
What's your secret, Quazilin? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I suspect he is using -dscale values in rad of 3 or higher.
-dscale # (where # is a whole number) multiplies the brightness of the direct lighting layer by #; resulting in brighter, harsher light sources.
for an extreme example have a look at ns_metal (and possibly ns_mineshaft although Ekaj may have just used really bright texture lights in conjunction with high -gamma values).

I don't know what Ekaj uses exactly, but I use a similar system; about 2000-6000 light intensity, .09 -gamma, and 1.8-2.0 env_gamma value. That always turns out nice, high contrast stuff for me.

I am using env_gamma 2 ... rad compiles with -bounce 1 -dscale 3 -gamma 1 and in lights.rad using 8300 for the small white lights and other lights are light_entities values near 100 That should do it... have phun <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Mr.Ben those screens look absoletely awsome, but I am a little concerned about time. It seems like you have been working on the same room for about a month, and at this rate we will never see the final result, in other words: HURRY UP!
It's true. I've only been redoing the same thing over and over again but hey the quality of it gets better each and every time and i'm now satisfied with it. Anyway right now i have revision and exams to start thinking of, then it's back to NW and then... maybe just then this NS map will become my full time project rather than a once a month thing. I can only apolgise <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> But hey hopefully i'll maintain the same high standards until max planes/clipnodes hits me in the face and i have to box the rest of the level <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b>Mr.Ben</b>: Just looking better and better all the time. I love it. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b>Mr.Ben:</b>Wow! I love the atmosphere of that area, but yeah, please do work on some other things <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oh, whats high values for you when you say then for -gamma and env_gamma? i use 2000 for texture lightings, -gamma 0.6 and env_gamma 1.5.
and in lights.rad using 8300 for the small white lights and other lights are light_entities values near 100
