How in the world does this thread get more replies then my thread, the "original" HL2 video's thread? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Those are some awesome videos. One thing I've noticed, though. Half-Life 2 screenshots and media seem to be the most nit-picked out there. I've never seen as many screenshots torn apart and criticized as I have with this game. It's strange.
right i have seen 7 out of nine i think. i just need to watch the 3rd one and the last 9th one.
Neone got a link? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

hehe the surfaces are deformable in a way. this means sum pretty cool. And the variety of effects also means sum nice things for mod makers. I mean can u imagine the sparks on a marine building when useing welder from the examples u c here. WOWZORS

Half life 2 will outrank it!

I for one hope to see new, original mods for HL2. Not just reahashes of the mods we have here. :)
I have two good mod ideas that I've had for awhile, and while they might have sorta worked on other engines, I get the impression they would be perfect for the HL2 engine. So then I can attempt another mod and fail miserably again, yay!
Some videos from e3, earlyer sayd that broken link, now u can download from here: <a href='http://www.gameland.ee/o2/e3_hl2movies.zip' target='_blank'>http://www.gameland.ee/o2/e3_hl2movies.zip</a>
and btw in hl2 theres AI not scripted dooings, i read it at gamespy, first article about hl2

the videos- omg. seen it, and now im beginning to think valve spoiled halflife for me! i want HL2! <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

One question though. I was getting my 'all 9 videos every 4 hours' prescription of HL2 videos. And just yesterday I was watching the barny and the buggy demo. And both of those videos feature that flying alien.
Pausing the video, I looked at the alien..... And I wondered... How the hell does it stay afloat like that? I mean, it has a HUGE propeller and all, but only on its rear. So how does that thing have its front part of the body stay afloat? It's not like it is flapping those tiny fins or anything (like it helps). So I would imagine, if that thing existed in real physics, won't you think the moment it tries to go afloat, th front side would start dipping until eventually it would come crashing down?
Another one. In the video with the allied pet-spider-looking things, the first time Gordon uses that pheramone ball against the soldiers, I swear I saw one of the spider crab or whatever _clip through_ the barricade of the first soldier, and smack him down. Clipping issues ++
What the hell, another one. In the movie with Barny, after the freedom fighters storm the flanks of the opposing soldiers and kill all of them except one on the ledge waaay up, the fighter on the left side of the screen seems as he's having the usual 'half-life 1 effect" where you flicker between animations. You see his upper body strangely and wildy snap up and down.
Yes I'm obsessed. And yes I'm also aware that Half-Life 2 still has 4 months to resolve these issues and perfect this masterpiece.
I believe that HL2 will revolutionize the industry like the first one. I *know* that HL2 is gonna be one of the best FPS out since the original, if not *the* best.
I am so desperate for more info on e3 I installed *gasp for dramatic effect* :Gamespy Arcade: on my computer, my *good* computer. I may have to exorcise the computer and melt the case down into an amulet but I will get info on e3 *crazy laugh*
ub3rbr0k3: In responce to the first point. Valve nomatter how clever they are cud never program in the effects of wind and air so that the fan would oush down on the ground allowing it to fly. Objects in games are just told how to behave. For example that flying thing would have just been told to raise up with the force of "x" and then play the spining propeller animation.
As for the flickering animation problem this is because of really annoying problems in AI creation for any game where it gets its priorities mixed up or plays one animation and forgets for finish it and startys to loop it.
and finaly as for the clipping problem. I cant explain this for sure but i would hazaRD a guess that its because of a problem with that object. maybe the objects tecture tags giveing it its propeties was wrong
I'm quite sure that Valve COULD program wind into the game if they wanted to.. But setting an object's properties to "flying" is so much easier why bother eh? :)

well i cant be bothered to think of another way of doing it and i am sure there are many. Hm obviously you people didn't notice that in the movie with Barney after the ship flies over the powerlines the powerlines themselves sway and move around. And about the ship, does it have to work the way you think it does. In HL1, how does that tram seem to float down levels on its own? how do some of the xen aliens float? How does an alien shoot lazers? Many many more questions that arn't supposed to be answered because thats just the way their supposed to be.

But what the hell do I know.
However, I was just trying to point out a physical flaw in the character design. This is that the creature would probably not be able to stay afloat, considering that the fan thing is waay in the back part of it. From what I see, the center of gravity seem to be off to the front of where the major lifting is is done (the fan). So I supposed, if there was REAL physics engine implemented, the creature would be spinning in mid air, and soon as it is upside down, the combined force of the weight and the fan will cause it to come crashing down. However, seeing that some type of force is not valid (such as the strider's machinegun recoil not even budging the gun itself one bit) and from what marksman has said, I speculated that some caculations are just not included in the system. However, speculation is just a speculation, I have by no concrete means of defending my statements.
And I think you are also correct that the aliens are equiped with so much unknown capabilities which we will never even begin to understand. This, is why the world of Half-Life can be so much fun.

Note that you will have to sit through advertisement for each video, and that the screen will be rather tiny.

The powerline thing, I suppose, can be easily done by programming it so when that flying thing is over it, it creates a point of force on top of the powerline, which goes on-off-on-off.
It was red with a tractor beam, while the other was orange and just use magnetism <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
No doubt it was the same weapon, just a model in the eariler versions.
