    Quite literally:

Heck, I wouldn't trust it with my rubbish. It'll sue me for throwing away rubbish.

Idk about you, but that computer is pretty freakin amazing from an engineering perspective, despite it looking like a small bin.

Unfortunately it's 4 square boards. So the hardware is even crappier than they could have put in. Which lets face it, wouldn't be good to begin with.

I find it funny how a number of you are slagging the new MacPro off because it looks like a trash can, when even it's cheapest minimum specification would run rings around all your PCs and still have time for cake and tea. Read the facts, not the trolling.

    I'm a PC, btw.

Just because the cheapest specs would run rings around a PC doesn't mean its not severely overpriced and overhyped.

That feel when that trash can has dual Ivy Bridge-EP 6-core Xeons, dual Tahiti XT2 based 6 GB FirePro cards, and 64 GB RAM, pounding my high end PC into oblivion while being smaller than one of my speakers ;-; Seeing the specs that Mac Pro is actually an engineering marvel.

Lol. This thread needs to be renamed: Mac bashing inc. Anyway...

Being a person that owns both a Macbook Pro and a MacPro, I guess I can share my two cents. Hardware vs Hardware; yes the Mac will be quite a bit more expensive compared to a PC with the same internals. My opinions aside, Mac's are built like tanks. The build quality is hands down fantastic and that is where you get the LARGE price increase. From an IT perspective, the Mac OS is also wonderful for less computer-savy users. Obviously you are paying a premium for their name as well. It's Apple. They're marketing geniuses and can get away with it.

From a gaming perspective, the hardware in a new(ish) macbook pro will run the game if you can handle playing at 30fps. That being said, the idea of porting the game to Mac OS really doesn't seem worth it at this point.

P.S. I am a PC guy and always have been. My mac systems are specifically for my audio systems and music server. Just wanted to share a different perspective.

Isn't the minimum price for that thing somewhere over £3000 though? You could build a far better performing PC for less, plus then if anything goes wrong, you're not reliant on Apple, whose customer service is amongst the very worst I've ever had to endure ever. And that's for a large charity that buys a lot of their hardware and apparently has good service from them.
I have had no end of trouble with all of the machines I've had from CrApple at work. And of course you can't swap out the graphics card for another one, because you have to buy a special 'Apple' branded one. WTF? It's the same damn hardware, yet they lock you out of the market and double the price.

In the last 6 years that I've been unfortunate enough to have to use macs, I started out as hopefully optimistic, and have ended up as the most avid Apple hater ever, such has their awful performance, value, quality and service been. Every single machine I've had from them has had some major problem or another, sometimes multiple serious problems. My current macbook pro is so unreliable I simply can't use it for work any more. It's been back to Apple 3 times within its first year. It's now just an e-mail and web browsing device.

All my personal experience, I'm not just reiterating what I hear online about this company. I'm glad if others haven't had the crap experience I've had. I'm jsut glad I never spent a single penny on any Apple product ever, and I certainly won't now. I really object to the charity money from my work being spent on that awful company. People donate money to cancer research charities to have actual research done, not to have us battle with shoddy hardware and software.

So much prejudice and hate towards OS X here... Yes, I don't like it either, but seriously... don't be offensive. There is no need to. Everyone who wants to play NS2 is welcome.

Here I have to disagree. Anyone that prefers to use a MAC is someone I don't want to play with. I think their smug self satisfaction would seep into my brain and give me cancer.

I was working on the coach one day on the way to work, and an Apple enthusiast commented on how cool my laptop was (a MBP). I made an awkward 'yeah right' sound and carried on working. Towards the end of the journey, he put HIS apple laptop on the seat next to him to get his bag out. The coach stopped suddenly, and it slipped off the seat, under the partition in front of his legs, and down the staircase of the coach, bump bump bump to the bottom.
Oh man I hadn't struggled not to laugh so much since that lion got stampeded in the lion king. Such a shame the little scrappy-doo lion didn't get stampeded too, now I think about it. Oh well :D

Stuck on a bus with that crap on the video player on a long journey across europe. Not cool. I can't stand Disney, if that clarifies things. :)

I can't think of a good reply to that, not liking Disney (classics)? So...much...confusion.

Back on topic, I would laugh if I saw a guy break his crapple too. Unlike you though I wouldn't be caught dead actually using one :P Why not do all your work on a normal pc and then just copy it across later?

Obraxis knows what he's talking about. This MacPro thats coming out is designed for people in his line of work.

For the whole bunch of things that Apple does wrong, they also do a whole lot of right. This MacPro (which is being manufactured completely in the US may I add) is actually relatively evenly priced for the hardware packed inside, which I'm sure none of you even checked before bashing.

Seriously, why even waste a breath hating on a company that you don't have to buy a product from. Its baffling.

I'm a protein crystallographer doing cancer drug discovery. The specialised software we use is kept up to date within our department by a single person, and my team leader decided in his wisdom to 'make life easier' by keeping the whole division on the same platform. I did manage to get him to agree to my next machine to be a PC running linux, though, so it's just a matter of time before I can get rid of these POS. :)

Sorry, but that just asks for the Nazi argument. Why bash Hitler, you didn't even know him? :D

Don't take this post too seriously, but you can be concerned without being affected.

Which, on the other hand, doesn't justify mindless hating.

Because the choice to use Apple isn't mine to make, it's been made by people who don't understand the problems that it causes, and the sheer waste of money that it brings my workplace, which is charitably funded for a large proportion of what be bring in.

So basically...either you inject yourself with aids or stop living? Since you've chosen aids you get to live, but, you have aids =/

EDIT: Actually, curious why you didn't laugh? Why bother to contain yourself when it's some guy you don't even know or care about? Also curious as to why you just grunted at him trying to engage you in MAC foreplay instead of explaining yourself :o

EDIT2: Also I should mention that I don't actually hate MACs on their own. Yes I think they're inferior, however, my main two issues with are:
    1) It's created a sub culture of smug idiots who think it's hip to own a MAC and somehow they're better because of it, and that so many people are falling into that hole.
    2) Apple recognises people's desperation to fit in so ramp the cost up of their products over charging people by HUGE amounts and becoming rich because of idiots.

Apple themselves HAVE actually innovated some really cool/impressive stuff I do admit, though if you want a really powerful computer you're PROBABLY pretty close either choice (pc or mac) if you don't care about cost. Really then it comes down to which OS you prefer, and I really don't know of any reasons (though I'm sure there ARE a few...) to go with the latest MAC OS over Win7.

Macs are a lot more useful then you think. You just need to stop being such a h8r fanboi and be more creative with them. You see here, my buddy used to be a professional programmer and they found some of their iMacs to be extremely handy. If they can do it with their petty collage degrees surely a fancy pants researcher like you can figure something out.
