Intel and Nvidia Sponsor the NS2 World Championship - Natural Selection 2
The Natural Selection 2 World Championship is the most ambitious project the NS2 community has ever undertaken. Reddog, WasabiOne, Zefram, Rantology, ItsSuperEffective, and Virsoul have moved mountains to prepare for a tournament that will allow every player on Earth to compete at the highest level. A huge qualifying group stage will lead to four teams being flown to Cologne, Germany for a live studio finals series. To make this happen, the NS2WC team is aiming to raise $30,000. There are now four days left to fuel the rocket, and send this game into space. And as of this moment, that goal just got a whole lot closer. Enter Nvidia and Intel. By day, each …

It's almost surreal for them to kick in such large amounts for a project that is doing so poorly.
Kudos to Intel n Nvidia !!
Tbh .. I always held both in high regard .. this just makes me all warm n fuzzy about life n stuff
Rant doesn't have a Twitter, if she has a public profile she would like me to link, I will do so!
So excited about this. Nvidia and Intel have really done something awesome. They haven't demanded we pimp their products artificially, they haven't put strings and ties on us, they have just supported competitive play.
So close to the target now, let's pull out all the stops!!
Always the beacon of hope, aren't we Zali? ;-)
But this is seriously awesome. Well done to those that helped make this happen! Let's just get the rest and have an awesome time in Germany!
Clogs shall be personally delivered to the Intel and Nvidia offices by WasabiOne in the WasabiOne clog van.
Looking forward to the Greenish Gorge skin, the Gorge that is meant to be played!
edit: be sure to get the word out there. I'm certain RPS would cover this, they are always interested in these kind of "stories".
Having an event for NS2 to be played like this is a horrible waste of money. Attempting to push the game as a 'competitive friendly' shooter is a massive ruse, and most serious competitive players I know that have played this game consider it a joke. The basic gameplay and concepts are there for a hugely successful e-sport game, however there are countless other pieces that are either incomplete or missing and will never be added. Those very problems are what hold this game back, and with the limited resources and time that have always been NS2's enemy, its very unlikely that even a small portion of those will get fixed. Considering how long many of these problems have been around without even any kind of 'were on it' statement, I hold little hope anymore. All things said your trying to promote NS2 as something I think that it cannot stand up to, and I cannot support that.
That said, I dont think its all doom and gloom. I think this project could have been much better suited to hosting 2 or 3 regional championship tournaments at some kind of smaller LAN setting - it would give people the opportunity to interact, but shouldn't prove nearly as costly.
I liked them before (and only buy their products :P) but they just scored major points in my book, personally.
gogo nvidia and intel, thanks for the sponsorship!
@xDragon
+1
Given how many ppl i know (including me) upgraded their pcs for ns2 - its only fair to see some "return" :P
Good old Sandy bridge (oc @~4.5ghz), THE building block of ns2.
Otherwise we wouldnt have had good enough (easily affordable) servers that can host the game(with acceptable tickrates) for quite some time.
Tons of ensl gathers hosted on my machine... good times...

And if they do? It is game on either way. In fact, I really hope they do, just to piss off all the naysayers.
No offense but so many people have tried to help UWE steer this game in the right direction during development. I remember heated arguments by @fanatic on these forums during the alpha over key gameplay decisions. In the end, UWE made their bed and this is what we are left with, for better or worse. Please don't insult by saying we didn't try hard enough for real change. Most people are burnt out or have left at this point, and have accepted this is not the game and subsequent success they had hope it would be. Faults were identified...and chosen to be ignored.
If they wanted this game to be a competitive e-sport game with tournaments and prizes all along, they sure didn't act like it when making the game. Forgive us for not being super supportive now. Nevertheless, this is an entertainment venture, but to bill it as a world championship e-sport competitive event is a joke. I will try to convince myself to see it differently (as if I were to pay money to go see a movie or something), and maybe accidentally donate when I'm drunk or something.
Furthermore, I fully encourage everyone to contribute to make this a possibility.
Please don't mistake my love for the game and my wish to see the world champs as the biggest success that it could possibly be as a criticism of what we currently have. I think everyone here would agree that we ALL want ns2 to continue to be successful. What I am trying to do in that other thread is to gather together a consensus of sorts to help make the biggest improvements possible in the short time that exists before the champs. It's only a positive thing!
Tl;dr contribute now if you haven't already!
