Haven't been able to enjoy NS2 since launch because of

    THIS

and this patch didn't change/fix anything.

I miss ns2 :/ But the stuttering is headache inducing and playing without v-sync is just as bad. I really hope this gets addressed. Beta was always smooooooooooooth up until launch build.

    edit: FIXED!

Limited framerate to "59" with MSI On Screen Display Server that is included with MSI Afterburner

I can play ns2 in all its buttery-smooth glory again! :)

    No more fog please.

so what's the big deal about playing without multicore on while vsync is enabled? seems like a pretty easy workaround.

We are not withholding any information from the community on purpose (and I hope you aren't insinuating that). Putting together the patchnotes is a very imperfect process, due to the large variety of things being added to the game from all areas of development. We do our best to get the devs to label their checkins appropriately to make it easier to compile an accurate list for the patchnotes, but some things still fall through the cracks. Getting each patch fully tested, bug fixed, packaged up and shipped out is a lot of work, and we try to put the patchnotes together as quickly and accurately as possible to go along with the release, but things get missed and will continue to be missed.

Why do devs always do this? Why would you take away more options? Now it looks blurry. Sigh. They even know that their game runs terrible for most people and they still do this. I stopped playing CS:GO just because of PP and fog and now this. Ugh that dreaded fog .

We did not turn fog on permanently. Most likely this is a bug caused by some of the lighting rendering optimizations or something.

I got a decent fps boost (between 5-15) I'm almost up to 50 at the start of the game. Marine structures seem to really kill fps though which is the same as before.

Are there any specific plans to optimize fps drops in that area?

I resent that. While the initial sarcasm certainly took a passive route, the "get a clue" remark completely subverted it into direct confrontation.

Well it's not "not disclosing", it's just "we may have forgotten out a few things from the patchnotes because there were a lot of changes during this time".

Good to hear the fog/atmospherics always being on isnt intended, i hope it gets fixed soon. Im only guessing, but it MAY be the reason my fps has dropped (5 fps ish drop, which is a lot when running 25-30 fps).

But Cory said it was not intended. Cannot forget if you never planned on it happening. Besides they will probably fix it. As for optimization their motto is they are always working on it and I think they included a few fixes but I am unsure as my video card fried and I am waiting on the rma to come while I use my weak spare one. Maybe if people state how their performance is now? I think their biggest patch will come Next Year so until then.

major gameplay bug: upgraded our 2nd hive to crag, then when it was done, it was just a regular hive--i couldn't build crag structures. what's worse, i lost the option to upgrade any hive to crag, the option just completely disappeared for the rest of the game. someone else tried getting into the khamm chair, and he couldn't build anything either.

optimization seems more like a de-optimization. My framerate is at its worse this patch, and this is comming from 232 which I had a worse fps in than 231. Something isn't right here...

I tmust be depressing to be a dev, working your ass of for a fix and then read over and over how its doing the exact opposite:(

    P.s: Hopefully I dont have a "de-optimization" *fingers crossed

This patch came out of the blue. I played a short game late last night. I couldn't notice anything new, but it's nice to see it's full steam ahead. Optimization and bug fixing -> content -> bliss! Keep it up! :)

I cant understand that. How do u guys know what u ever have changed? There must be tons of things now in this game u have simply forget. Thats a selfmaded error source. A thoroughly documentation is so important for every bigger project.
  • Soylent_greenSoylent_green Join Date: 2002-12-20 Member: 11220Members, Reinforced - Shadow
That's all very nice, but the must-have feature for the Spark level editor is a texture application tool that overflows to adjacent surfaces with correct alignment and rotation(alt+rmb in valve hammer) and smoothing groups for level-geometry that isn't a model. Otherwise you are forcing every map to be a collection of static props strung toghether with flat or very angular level geomtry.

Being lazy with documentation is pretty common for many of the newer agile development processes that are being followed these days

It's understandably frustrating... but I wouldn't be shocked if something like that is going on at UWE. There's really only a hand full of programmers working there.
