To clarify the situation around my ban:

Saturday night sometime after the NA games had concluded, Dusk (inv representative) received an email which cited me personally and said I was banned for the first game of the final for saying something on the public stream. We responded asking what was specifically said and asking to discuss the ban in person. The next day, the ban was walked back before the NA finals started. At no point did team inversion blackmail our way out of a ban. We were never told what was actually said that spurred the ban in the first place -- we were told it was a mistake of some sort.

And with respect, damage was done despite having the ban walked back before the finals. We were pretty mad that an admin banned a member of the team over an unexplained and minor reason mid tournament.

Guys, I'd like to thank you all for keeping this thread reasonably civil. I was a bit wary about giving this thread the go ahead as I could see it quite easily devolving into a ragefest. But, it hasn't and that's awesome :)
Hopefully, beyond just clarifying the events of the last official tourney, this thread will go a ways towards the streamlining of future tourneys - both official and unofficial.

On a side note, lets try to keep the PT discussion in this thread to a minimum. Yes, aspects of it are somewhat relevant and have contributed to the main discussion, but I'm hesitant to let that topic become too prominent within this thread for two reasons: For one, it's tangential to the main topic of this thread. Secondly, I have no idea what NDAs/guidelines the PTs are working under and I would hate to see anyone inch towards losing their PT status as a result of anything said in this thread.

Hey guys, I sent an email to Charlie asking about this whole situation. I did get an encouraging reply (very much so considering Wasabi's positive post), but I'm asking permission before posting the actual emails here. They're technically a private conversation, but once I hear back again I'll get them up here.

I really hope this DOES let the tournaments of the future run a lot smoother.
For what it's worth, I think a lot of the PT stuff was really just part of a scary situation - players getting banned for seemingly trivial reasons, then boom, someone loses PT status, and it looks like there are consequences outside the tournament, too. (at least that's the line of thought) All the competitive players and hopefuls were mostly left in the dark overnight, so it makes sense we'd hop to conclusions.

It's amazing to see how things get much simpler when people finally start to communicate. Proven so many times.

Good we are seeing civil resolution on this, I would hate losing the ability to watch you guys since I don't have time to play much myself.

It is unfortunate how some events unfolded around this tournament. Yet it's good to see that many of us (the community) still hold our heads up high and keep going. Lets hope the lessons learned here will improve the future tournaments, as has happened in the past.

I was also kicked from PT with out warning after many hours of completely free volunteer time, not once but twice. The first time was because I suposedly pissed off the NAPT lead, by commenting on his opinion, and there by I had "Humiliated" him infront of Charlie "flayra"I lol'd. So stupid to get kicked for stating one sentence but what ever.

The second time I was kicked I never got told why, but I assume it is because I miss too many playtests how ever i told them I can only make it to the ones on thursdays as I work.

I was booted for so called being inactive in the PT despite being there every NA testing day at 3 or 4am my time. I was talking to Obraxis about it but he's suddenly gone quiet on me

Seriously, people like this need to be banished from anything that has anything to do with NS2 and never let back in.

I am embarrassed to post on a forum related to a game that is related to a PT system that is related to someone of this nature. It just makes me feel like I need to take a shower.

Can we please keep this thread to tournament discussion? Getting kicked from PT sucks and all... but I see more whining about that in this thread than anything else.

    Weeh, this thread grew fast...

I hope there will be some good outcome and constructive discussions coming out of this mixed with common sense since I really appreciate the work done by all participants in the recent tournaments, from teams to organizers. Also special hug to Wasabi for his deep commitment.

Shortened the quotes because the content is irrelevant to my point.

Please keep it on-topic here people. This thread is about the tournament and the sanctions related to (mis)behaviour therein. If you want to talk about why you were removed from the PT group, talk to either Obraxis (EUPT) or SabaHell (NAPT) through PM or other known channels.

It's a -very- difficult thing to call a match and so he questioned himself, but he knew to follow through with the original call.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Your right thats its not easy, lots of factors to consider in a small amount of time. And adding to the whole shebang, the initial problem solved itself as i hoped it would, just <u>took to long</u>. I did take notis both tres and pres, so that was a contributing factor on the desition, to call for the rematch aswell.
If it had been a 10sec hickup, instead of a full min. Im sure the game would have continued forinstance.
Minimixing disrupting the concentration, and focus of the players on the game at hand is vital for any eSports match. But as said above, the hickup was to damn long, and the "damage" was done. eg rematch.

Aww, warms my hart to hear you say that. :)
But the pool of admins is realy small, so even being in top10 could allso place me as the worst admin ever :P

On another note, from my forum mod perspective.
Following this tread in a healthy but "heated" discussion, makes me so damn proud of everyone.
Never, and i mean never have i seen a community refrain from trolling, useless +1s comments. And everyone actualy voicing there concerns and oppinions keeping it civil and to the point.

I think that's the essence of my message, GISP.

I want to understand why this community and organizer-group are at such odds when all our goals are the same. We all want the game to thrive, to be a better place, and to experience quality competitive play.

So why are we overbearing towards each other, why aren't things layed out clearly and cleanly, with a professional capacity and mindset, and why do we overzealously exert totally over-the-line punishments against people who clearly care for the product and the environment?

It should just be us all having a good time, working professionally towards a better future environment. Not a petty drama-fest of rumor and speculation.
I still haven't heard a single word from anyone official outside of Wasabi regarding anything about bans, names, specifics, capacities, or anything else.

I actually don't even know if I'm banned from anything, or nothing. Or for what reason. Or under what philosophy... or from what set of rules, that were never posted anywhere, but stated to be rules from a tournament I never played in previously, and could not be provided to me. I don't know, really... It's just disheartening to know the highest rated teams in the community are so loving towards NS2, and feel so alienated by the people in charge of it.

Turnament rules was sent to your Team captain. So you not knowing is entirely on his shoulders.
On the topic of hearing about bans and stuff - im as clueless as you, only info got is from what i seen in this topic.

The way these things go is if you have not received any confirmation or communication regarding the matter.

Assume the worst. Next UWE event in all likelihood you will be banned unless informed otherwise prior to the event. It's a lot easier to retain a ban by not acknowledging a ban in any observable capacity. And when it's too late to appeal your ban it will be merely glossed over.

    That's how this works.

I can live with the PT talk not being necessarily in this thread, but I'd certainly appreciate some public discussion and transparency after seeing this thread and the posts in it. I've always felt it a bit odd that the seemingly most capable people end up not sticking to the group very long, but after this thread it actually looks outright nasty. I think some discussion would be welcome.

And to be clear, I have tons of respect for people willing to spend their free time trying to improve the game. This just seems like a mess where a lot of those people I respect are getting treated in awful ways also.

If Hugh actually commented, we wouldn't need filler talk about the PT problem(although this seems pretty important too). Or maybe, Hugh, like his casts, missed this topic.
