Hi all,

I write with some sadness to announce that the Australia Pure NS2 servers will be taken down indefinitely. It was started as a place to play for myself and anyone else in the small NS2 community to play, expecting only to ever host about 12 people for a couple hours a day. Currently there is a server full for almost the entire night, and that’s on a quiet day.

Please don't post below to ask me to keep it up, as that cannot happen. However if you have access to Power, Good network (5mbps upload+) and a room that is not too hot, feel free to get in touch with me, I'd love to be able to continue this but I don’t expect it to happen.

    So very disappointing they are the only servers worth playing on in AUS.

    They really need to fix the NS2 server so it can run on a normal machine...

    Endar your post actually gave me a knot in my throat.

    Without Aus Pure, NS2HD would never, ever have happened. Your servers are what allowed filming of 80% of NS2HD videos, and pretty much 100% of them before about Build 180.

    Damnit! The pure servers were the only aussie servers worth playing on.

    If someone wants to organise a fundraiser to host an aussie server, I'd pitch AUD$10 a month towards it.

    I would go so far to say that it was the only decent server in asia/australia. I am currently stuck in China and here are no good servers. Even though I had ~200ms to your servers they gave me a awesome experience and the possibility to continue playing ns2. Thats gone now :(

    This truly is sad. On a positive note i will be hosting a server in New Zealand (not too far across the ditch) very soon, currently it begins to run a little strange when more than 10 or so people join so im working out some kinks. From tonight on i will have this running in lieu of Aus Pure so you all have somewhere to play. Please feel free to PM with with any questions or feedback on the server so i cant get it all working right for everyone. Endar has helped me set this up so please bare with me while i get it 100%.

    Look out for: Frag Space NS2 - will be live from 8.30pm NZ time (6.30pm NSW Time)

    Thankyou Endar. The Aus/NZ NS2 community was only possible because of you.

    A major hurdle for NS2 to suceed is the availability of servers that run on standard server/desktop hardware which in turn allows service providers to sell servers as a service. Ive been searching for somewhere that I can colocate a server but bandwith on top of rack space costs makes this impossible (at least in Aus and New Zealand).

    Endar, Your contribution to Ns2 is only overshadowed by your skill as an NS2 player.
    Your servers’ direct and indirect (through NS2HD) influence on the NS2 community is leagues more than what could be asked of one man.
    Just wanted to add my 2cents of gratitude because I feel if all the people you helped join NS2 did the same you'd be a very wealthy man
    You've raised the Australasian NS2 community to what it is, and now it's time for it to leave your servers' warm embrace and stand on its own two feet.
    With people like Drakennz in the ranks I think we will survive.

    So a thanks for baring with us for all this time
    Instead of people seeing it as "you stepping down from your job" in reality it’s more like "your job here is done!"
    ..and no-one should be sad or remorseful over a job well done.

    So here's to you Endar,

    All the other servers are crap/laggy.

    I'd be willing to contribute some $$ towards another great server.

    Thanks for the great games and the many laughs. I loved the original NS1 (and the WANS, AUSNS community that kept it strong) and I see this emerging again through the likes of Aussis such as yourself dedicating time to this fantastic game.

    I'm hooked and addicted. With my work I'm very time poor but I play whenever I can and I've only ever played on your servers. The admins have always been around to help, the servers are always breathing and bleeding edge and it will be a shame to see them go. I wish you all the best and hope to frag (but most probably be fragged) by you in the future.

    I know you said there is no chance of bringing them back online but please post if there is anything we can do to help. I'm not sure of the situation (whether it was a long extended favour or just became too expensive out of your own pocket to keep things running or the boss noticed that little computer in the corner hogging his bandwidth!) but either way, even if I could chip in to buy you a beer for what you've done so far I'd like to contribute somehow.
