Why on earth would you want to play with FF on? When does it make the game better? The only thing FF does is mean you occasionally get shot by your own dudes or shoot your own dudes, it is literally only capable of annoying people.
FF increases tactics and greatly decreases spamming...*assuming* your team is trying to win. Though, given the potential for griefing teammates, it is best suited for private or league matches.

But making it configurable is ok. People will vote with their feet... erm.. klicks.. you know what i mean ;-)
I like ff, I think it will stop people from using flamethrowers no matter whats in the way, even if its an teammate or an extractor. Might be good if its disabled on nades tho, seeing how unpredictable they are as of now. I sometimes have them bounce in a way making them lose all velocity and fall down as soon as i fire them, even though there is nothing to bounce at except for myself, which they should be moving away from already.

I like playing with FF, griefing was rarely a problem in NS1.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> I think I read, "How would Kharaa bacteria harm Kharaa bacteria," but really you meant (just as you said) "Why would Kharaa bacteria harm Kharaa bacteria" but that answer was so obvious I didn't think you'd honestly be asking it.
The answer is, of course, because it's presumably controlled by players with free will and the capacity to (harm Kharaa bacteria).

Spores shouldn't be affecting fellow aliens with friendlyfire on. It didn't do that in NS1, and doesn't make sense that Lerks would evolve to hurt their teammates with this gas. The spores are Khaara bacteria just like the rest of the aliens, they might be some ulgy m*****f*****s but they wouldn't hurt their own race like that.
I'd hope the answer was no but you can mod the game files. Knowing "pro" people we might end up with them using FF on every clan match and then public server just because it's more pro and you know pro is good. For instance look at all these people discussing the details already.

@twiliteblue hardly a problem, more of a challenge.

I would love to see a Realism mod for NS2, with FF enabled, and kill messages disabled. Tho I imagine regular NS2 will have many issues with FF on, as combat in NS2 has been quite chaotic so far. For example, I am seeing Marines shooting each other more than Fades, and Skulks biting one another more than Marines.

Some want it; some don't. Give us the option and everyone can be happy playing on the server of their choice.
I would chose FF server because it makes me feel more immersed in the game. You have to think more carefully about where you are standing in relation to other marines.
There could be some admin mod that kicks players who team attack too often. Alien FF could be through biting/clawing.
GmOvrmind doesn't have friendlyfire-functionality, but if you really wish it to be enabled, open "NS2GmOvrmind_Server.lua", and paste this all the way at the end of the file (past "INS2GmOvrmind:__init();"):

Team mates with FTs would have to be very careful.
Spore clouds would also be interesting.

Tho spore clouds probably wouldnt hurt aliens.
This.
Friendly fire is a griefers best friend.

Why would Kharaa claws hurt other Kharaa claws? Physics.

This is a sad, cynical world we live in.
