friendly fire is only good when the server admin controls it, by default it needs to be turned off. NS isn't the type of game friendly fire is needed, it would be doing more harm then good.
I dislike the flamers as well, they still did not fix flames going through walls and objects. Its actually rather big light-saber, spam it at any direction no actual aiming is required, i never liked this weapon.
at first this weapon was made to fight infestation but now infestation is so nerfed, flamethrowers aren't even needed, they're just great weapons for easy aiming and cheap way to kill aliens without actually trying. This weapon doesn't belong in ns2, honestly.
here some things need to be "adjusted"
1.flames going through walls and objects 2.damage over time needs to be reduced 3.range, it has way too long range - being on the ceiling doesn't even help

turning friendly fire because of this broken weapon doesn't make sense, but trust me I been stressing about flamethrowers for long time, so has many members here. FF should only be controlled by server admin but turned off by default.
i agree with you, but there is server with FF OFF and FF ON when i played NS1, i think it will be the same on NS2, so people can choose server in "match mode" or "ffa mode"
because in match, FF ON will be turn ON. Like in NS1
L4D sort of requires it for balance, otherwise you could stand in a molotov or minigun fire and be an invincible zombie magnet, but otherwise I don't think I can think of a game that is better for it either.
Played a few matches on a FF on server, and didnt really like it much... the Fades have too much fun blinking in swiping a bit and blink out and lol'ing as all the shotgun blasts hit the marine the fades were swiping at. Its too much to ask the marines to check fine and track Fades, and as a Skulk its all too easy to chomp a friendly skulk in the feeding frenzy on a massed skulk pile on a silly solo marine.
I call it om nom nom on your fade egg. Skulks accidentally chewing their teammates apart. Repeatedly getting shot in the back by a shotgun. Accidentally and spawn kill with ip. The troubles of differentiating a friendly fire server from a normal one. Getting kick/banned for accidentally teamkilling someone. Lil' timmy died because he didn't know you fired grenades. Oops, I just happen to set my entire team on fire. Shooting the would be commander before the command station closes. A fade or onos gets accidentally teamkilled when he's in low health.
I'm okay with it being an option, but it absolutely must be off by default, and appear in the server browser to distinguish which servers have friendly fire on, so I know which servers to avoid/ not play on again.
Minus a few exceptions, friendly fire does nothing for me but lead to so many frustrating moments in gaming, whether the Belligerents did so intentional or not, and provide a perfect environment for griefers.
FF with ricochet would be rather sweet(as it was in CoD4). That would also mostly remove the possibility of griefers. If you are unfamiliar with the concept it means that if you buckshot a friend in the face, you get that shot thrown right back into your own face. This could be exploited by griefers trying to block your aim, but that would in most cases get them chomped down, leaving you a clear path - and you get the option to not shoot as opposed to the old friendly fire where griefers simply popped you and where you have very little choice regarding your own survival.
Actually there is a lot of person who say : FF ON ?..... may be they need to read the name of server :x

This sounds great I wanna try!

I dislike the flamers who spam all around with flame !
Now, the players need to learn to play !

With the current dmg values and no special hitzones(headshot), nobody would play it for long.
So I know which servers to stay away from.
Never had a game experienced improved by friendly fire.

Not wise though not enough players :(
