It's technically playable, but it's not complete enough to be really enjoyable.
There's a lot of polish and features missing (understandably) but I can't force myself to complete a round right now because there is no movement control, so it feels like a shadow of its former self. Skulks not being able to Leap in mid air is wrong. And the Fade blinking mechanic of having a player model obscure your screen is horrible. There were also a lot of issues with feedback concerning when you're taking damage, when players are attacking, when you're landing hits, etc.
I'll happily wait for it but my main concern is the direction in terms of the light/dark mechanic and the movement system.

Seriously? WOW! It's amazing you can even play any games at all.
Are these the same people that bandy around terms as 'smooth' at the 20FPS-mark, consider a game in which you have crashed less than 3 times a resounding success, and are overjoyed when a 1/10 of their bites properly reg on the target? per chance?

Smooth is not 20fps, I agree. 40fps for me is smooth. 60 slick, and above I cant really tell.
Currently, Summit provides me with Slick 60fps most of the time, dropping to 40fps at the lowest. Tram gets me about 40fps average, dropping to about 25, Rockdown about 50fps average down to about 30 all at 1080p on High.
Here's some screens with the FPS included that I took during a random game. Completely playable for me. Lowest it gets is 20-25fps and that's only during heavy action. It does stutter a little every now and then, but it's definitely playable. I average between 30-40 in most big areas and better everywhere else. In the ready room I get over 100 FPS.

I can play lots of games 'smoothly'. Although NS2 is jerky, laggy, bad reg. Even using LAN settings and running around you get jerky points and it doesn't stay above an average of 35fps for me. I can't think of any game I currently own, new and old which do that.
The problem lies in the software, I mean hey, UWE have no real answer for a "minimum spec". The software is probably going to be at fault and not the hardware for most people.
The game hasn't really been optimised yet, so I haven't got high expectations in that regard. I could tell reg was off on a pretty permanent basis and there were some lag spikes from time to time, but nothing I'd call that major (the lagspikes I mean). It's very hard to tell how much of this is down to the servers themselves, or the software, or a little of columns A & B.
Then there's also a lot of polish (specifically usability) that's lacking, but again it's to be expected because the game hasn't reached that phase of development.
Then there are some design decisions that I just don't agree with, and it doesn't look like they're going to change.
All those 3 things for me make it technically playable but not enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure player is running a DX 11 card with an i7 and atleast 4GB of RAM, if memory serves me well. The problem isn't the hardware, and I'm sure he hasn't configured it wrong and gets bad performance in every game he plays. I think maybe you might want to re-evaluate your stance on such things.

If he gets bad performance every time then there got to be a problem with his setup, because many others don't.

What I _did_ say was that having 60+ FPS with no lag on a 16-player server (so say up to 8 players on-screen at any time) is rubbish, it just is. As for NS2HD's spiffing videos, there are plenty of threads where I've ranted about it already.
Gameplay is somewhat smoothish now...at awful settings for me - then again I'm stuck with an old 8800GT that goes absolutely overdrive at my native resolution of 1920x1080.
Also I don't like the mouse smoothness/sensitivity the slightest - no matter what it's just too jerky or too slow. I just can't get the perfect setting - something which most other games that have dubious frame rate settings manage to do.
I've been waiting for the full game to be released to be able to run a demo version to see how well my system could run the game. But now i've seen the last update it's really hard to wait! Can someone take a guess at how well it would run on my system? (and look good) and yes, I know the performace can only get better further in development. Specssheet These are my specs, ive tested how well I could run Crysis 2 on "Can you run it?" ;)
I have an issue with the system requirements in this game. It says A 1.2 GHz Processor (SSE2 required), 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows Vista/2000/XP should do the trick.
Though I have a amd 64 3000+ 2gb ram and a ATI Hd4650 GPU and I get around 4-20 fps ingame where my fps is dead anytime im shooting as a marine.
Yeah that's their final product v1.0 system req. I think. :P It's still in beta so they're trying to optimize everything and such... gets better with every patch. A few patches ago I couldn't even play.

expect poor performance on a lower end machine until they get around to optimizing everything closer to launch.

how about you join a few games and get your own opinion ?
