... but Comprox, if he's right why does he know about the "true" release date fall 2011 if UWE didn't even tell us this ? Is he lying or are you :P

I sense something evil going on, also there is no smoke or mirrors in the engine test :)

EDIT: I'm sorry I tried to be funny and somehow got completly confused by all the irony going on after the very first word :S

My birthday is coming up in a again in a few days, I got ns2 from my girlfriend last year on my birthday. I had to explain to her that the game is still not playable. My girlfriend thinks UWE are crooks. I'm more mild because I doubt my current pc will be able to handle ns2 anyway.

When I saw the engine test release I expected things to speed up, and to be honest I hoped for Alpha near the end of June/beginning of July. I'm not sure if thats still realistic now, but only the devs have a decent idea of when the alpha will be ready..

Remember though guys: while an alpha release could be potentially soon, fit and finish on games can be a very lengthy process. Optimizing and bug fixing isn't just a two month ordeal.

And with the way the current engine test plays... there's a lot of that work to be done.

I'll stand by the UWE team even if they never release the game. These guys are clearly good people worth investing in, and if I get a game out of it, that's a bonus. They contribute to the community of developers and gamers in ways that other companies should take example from.

You've got to be kidding me. I have no problem waiting, but if the game never released?!? I think you are going to have a hard time finding ANYBODY to agree with you on this. Great people? Definitely. Taking everyone's money and never releasing the game? I would have to retract that.

It's obviously going to get released though. There's been too much investment (from the developers) for nothing to ever happen.

Stop saying you wants them to release it at halloween! Active people in the forum are mostly big fan that wants to please UWE, but think thats a lot of players that wait since years for the game, (only a year since they paid), and they wants it as soon as its possible.

but dont get me wrong, NS1 is one of my 2 favorite games ever, beating all others games in the world, even the last one.

NS is quite unique and i was at UWE side for the "dont rush it it'll be better" but, a year after the fake release date, i'd expect atleast an alpha with A map, some alien forms, marines, weapons...

modders will add the rest so we can have more fun!

and then they can "polish" it through the upgrade to beta.
  • culpritculprit Join Date: 2005-01-07 Member: 33527Members, Constellation
Agreed. I don't think that nothing will ever be released. If that were to be the case, I would be disappointed and annoyed. I've wasted $40 on much less important things, but I have little doubt that my 'investment' in UWE will not be rewarded with an awesome NS2 game.

I'm so glad that Cory is actively feeding us bits of info about what seems to be a fast approaching alpha release. I sure hope he never has to eat those words. Maybe I'll make a tasty pesto sauce for him to put on those words should that day come. Orange bell pepper and basil pesto would probably look much like infestation now that I think about it.

Its remarkable how much tension there is between gamers and developers, unlike any other in the entertainment industry...

Just imagine if you never knew about or kept up with it until months before release. Impatient fans do us no good. :/

Hey now... there's no need to get rude. He's allowed to express his opinion, considering he did pay money for this. And in spite of his comment, I'd like to point out that some of us "gamers" have been waiting almost 4 years, for this to become a reality. Try to understand that a lot of people who've put their money forth, have paid for a "product" that's not released yet. We did it out of "faith" for the people working on the project, because we saw promise in NS1... and invested our money into NS2.

Yes... 40 dollars is a night out. But at least that's a night well spent. I can say my tummy is full and I saw a movie with 40 bucks. But, hell... I'm walking away with something I expected when I paid for it. I put 40 dollars on the line, hoping that this game rocks as much as I (dear lord) hope it does... I'm allowed to be impatient and so are a lot of other people. We've been waiting a long time. Even before the beginning of the project and some of us NS fans, knew even before then that they had to top NS1, with a part 2. So stop getting rude on people, but telling them their not allowed to complain. Yes, we paid our 40 bucks. Sure, we could get a refund... but I'd rather have the game I paid for and waited months to get released, with all the expectations my 40 dollars paid for.

If you don't like the complaints... follow some good advice my mother told me. <b>Mind your OWN business.</b> If you were in line at McDonalds complaining that your not getting your burger fast enough, does that give me a right to act like a prick and tell you to go somewhere else, if you don't like it. NO. So mind your business if you don't like hearing the people who paid for a product complain.

Let Admin's and the Dev's worry about it. But the rest of you are simply fueling an already hot fire. Grow up a little and learn to stfu.

I like everyone else would like to see more bang for my buck right now.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->NS is quite unique and i was at UWE side for the "dont rush it it'll be better" but, a year after the fake release date, i'd expect atleast an alpha with A map, some alien forms, marines, weapons...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

EXACTLY. I'm still by their side, but since April 9th (I actually had it written on a calendar) , I haven't seen a lot of changes with the Alpha that was released. Just Steam, which I'm already all too familiar with. I blow at making maps as I expect not everyone here can make maps... so I wish there was just a bit more for me. Even just running around as an alien or different weapons would be nice.

I have high hopes, but still things I'm concerned about. Things, I'm not sure anyone else has addressed. Is the creep shown in the original video... is that still active, or is that an idea that's long and gone? And what about objects... they seem to be static, with no individual physics as we see in most games today... This isn't the place for these questions, but I've already said all of this... why not ask people who are carefully watching this thread and give them something better to do than continue to troll.

    Can anyone answer these?

You haven't seen any updates of the "alpha" because that wasn't the alpha. It was an engine test. We aren't updating and supporting an engine test.

The Dynamic Infestation that was shown in the video is still planned to be part of the game, and a big part.

Guys, give UWE a break. To make a AAA game like they're trying to make, you'd normally have a team of about 20+, usually 50-100. They have what, 4 or 5 full-time staff?

So either give them more money so they can hire more people, or quit complaining.

I don't think pure denial of mistakes is going to work. They made pretty bad looking call with the deadline. They've had some history of somewhat broken promises (BUS, site downtime). They are still an indie company doing their first big commercial title, not Valve who has history of groundbreaking games.

The last thing I want anyone to think is that it's completely fine in every way. I can live with it, no problem with that. However, I don't know how long approach like this will work, unless they can keep delivering absolutely ridiculously amazing games somehow. If not anything else, I think this is building quite a bit of extra pressure for NS2.

Like I said, I can live with it, but I hope they'll go through these thingys and improve them in the future if that's possible.

That's my best guesstimate as well.
    Alpha - Halloween 2010
    Beta- February 2011
    Retail release - 12/21/2012

I have games to keep me busy though and I'd rather see a finished product over a rushed product any day. With that said though, I suspect there will be many patches and refinements long after the retail release (similar to NS1 & TF2 - just remember to stop before it gets as ridiculous as TF2).

appearantly there's a game comming out shortly called sniper: ghost warrior so i'm good for the next 2-3 months :p Also i'm still having fun with the editor and getting my map ready for alpha release aswel.

Quit complaining about the complainers btw. Saying "it's a night out" is not a good analogy because your not going to pay $40 to sit on a couch and drink cheap vodka waiting to go out. and "give them more money" doesn't work either, because they where dependant on investors before the pre-orders, now they've already gotten pre-order money (which is an advance on retail sales) so "we've already given them more money".

If ya want less whiners, don't involve money in the picture. Because money is a legitimate reason to whine about anything, No matter what the amount. Hopefully they learned that now, along with good communication with your community beeing the key to long or pushed back release dates. The fact that this forum isn't completly engulfed in "release the game" or "UW are thieves" threads an entire year after people started paying for something they haven't even got yet, is more then enough reward for them for doing a good job on communication.

Considering i played in the paid open beta of champions online.... really, this forum is already beeing spared a great deal.

I'm glad to hear that the infestation is still part of the plan. I tried to explain it to my wife... but that's a bird flying way over the house.

And yes, I realize everything that is up against the UWE. I'm not bashing them. I'm only standing up for the rights to be able to speak up, complaint or compliment without 12 other people berating people who've waited awhile with no real results lately that pertain to the gamers in us. I know the game takes time and work. I may not have the talents to create an entire game from scratch, but I have a pretty good idea of what it would entail.

And yes. 40 dollars is a cheap night out, but a night never-the-less. For some people, I'm sure it's easy to drop 40 dollars on a game that's not released yet... maybe your mommy and daddy helped you or bought it for you. But some of us others, have bills to pay, children to feed and a few other things that 40 bucks can goto. I'm not saying anything else, except don't assume everyone comes from a wealthy background who doesn't care where they put 40 dollars. I paid for it and I don't plan on refunding it. I'm just as impatient as all of you, waiting for Natural Selection 2 to come out. The country is in the roughest part of trying to put its crumpled economy back together. Like this is a time to be dancing in the street with bills in your hand. Only if your a Politician. Just be a little more considerate, when dealing with people who are just waiting for what they paid for. Yes, we're all trying to be patient and mature, but definitely understand, people have a right to be a little irate about it.

Not your cup of soup? Then just goto a different thread. Problem solved.
