I quite like the idea of calling it something along the lines of Growth. Personally I think the word 'Taint' fits perfectly. It's not only short and simple to say(e.g. 'Roomname tainted'), but also hints that it isn't permanent and the possibility is there for it to be removed by the marines.
If I was a TSA scientist, I would call it "Dynamic Infestation", if I was a Commander or grunt who doesn't nickname things anymore than the Comm, I would call it Growth. If I was a grunt who liked to paint graffiti on my armor and add things I wasn't supposed to my standard kit and nickname stuff, I would use Khrud or Khrap, something that sounded profane and disgusting.
Growth is my favourite, because in one monosyllabic word it describes exactly what it does and gives it a sense of being sentient. I added a * beside it in the online doc as well but who knows if that will get edited out or changed.
And the reason I am posting this here? Because I read the Talking section of the online document linked in the twitter feed.
If it's anything other than 'infestation' it's going to sound forced and stupid. Granted, in game it may be shortened to 'infest' but I'd imagine that would be about it.
I'm cool with Infestation. But there's room for improvement, hence the discussion.

Creep is from Starcraft. It's real life meaning has nothing to do with alien substrates. If we use creep it will be a direct copy from Starcraft. Let shoot for some originally here.
From a biological definition standpoint both creep & dynamic infestation ARE a substrate. "...is the surface a plant or animal lives upon. The substrate can include biotic or abiotic materials." -wiki
I think the TSA scientists would call it Xeno Mass, Growth, Substrate, while the general media would call it Alien Infestation.
Marines might be content to just call it something like turf (green, soft, you walk on it) or 'festo (short for infestation).

Also, people stop freaking out about Starcraft. Infestation is not a term held by anyone. Neither is creep or blight. Blizzard can't do anything bout it and nor can anyone else.
I think it may help if they show us a picture or a NEW video of what Dynamic Infestation looks like within the new engine. Maybe it's changed since 2006...

I mean seriously, I've only been laughing to this thread.
I always liked the idea of growth however just growth on its own is not... impressive enough? It needs an adjective, although the only thing I can think of is contagion.

I vote for Growth or just simply Infestation. Blizzard doesn't own 'infestation' any more than id-software owns 'machine gun'. It has a too widespread usage. Also keep in mind that we're talking about a living and growing organism, not some kind of evilness, disease or lifeless gunk.
Not exactly. Xeno means "foreign" in latin. "Foreign Death" sounds ok, I guess, but "zeno-necks" and "necks" sounds silly IMHO. But the idea of a foreign invasive entity is solid.... Xenomoss? Xenomold? Xenospore? Xenomatrix? Xenoresin? Xenopolin? Xenomass? Xenocolony? Xenoslime? Xenophage?

I was also trying to think of something related to habitat or ecology. This didn't really lead anywhere good though.
I like it.
The Marines can call it simply as Infest or Infestation, and the "scientific" name might be B.I.E ( Biological Infestation Entity ).
In a similar fashion to how Resource Towers are referred to as RTs, I think Dynamic Infestation should be referred to as KG (Kharaa growth)
Khrap.

"...is the surface a plant or animal lives upon. The substrate can include biotic or abiotic materials." -wiki
So let's start from there. Quick brainstorm (not suggestions!): Substrate, bio, Petri Dish, cultures, bacteria, fungi, Agar, Nourishment, Cells, Spread, growth media, network, matrix, turf, soil, brew, ferment, fertilizer, synthesis, atmosphere, terraforming, reform, metamorphose, mutate, catalyze, plague, epidemic.
I think the TSA scientists would call it Xeno Mass, Growth, Substrate, while the general media would call it Alien Infestation.
Marines might be content to just call it something like turf (green, soft, you walk on it) or 'festo (short for infestation).

(And calling it Taint would be the worst mistake evar!)
The Kharaa Tar.
"KT" or "KR" is spreading.
Seeing how it's the base form of the Kharaa infestation so it could work..
Unless you want to call it KI. Which everyone would think of DragonBall.
