<div class="IPBDescription">Because the Google doc is a mess!</div>I think it's better if we just post our suggestions here and then do a vote "Forum Poll" style.

Is it posible to have a poll with each person being able to cast multiple votes. Not for the same one, but say your 3 favorites?

Here are some of my favs from the Doc

# Infestation
# Growth
# Khrud
# Slush

Also suggestions like Spoil, Rot, and <b>Decay</b> make no sense since DI is living and growing like mold, bacteria, and fungus.

[EDIT]Names like Cancer and Aids are probably best left unused in this videogame.

As I said elsewhere, my favorites so far are:
    -Infestation
    -Cancer
    -Growth

Although, I think this is best left on the google doc page until the devs are ready to throw up a real poll.

The best 3 are Infestation, Growth and Decay. But Infestation is the best by far.

My addition was <b>'Nex'</b> - which is one of the Latin words for Death.

I think the most common use of the word will be in the phrase "The (room name) is (infested)", much like calling out a hive.

    The refinery is infested!
    Eclipse is khruded!
    We got khrud in Comsat!
Sewer is full of Slush! (hah!)
    We got growth in Double!
Room clear, ready for Alpha drop!

Meh. I can agree that AIDS would be a terrible name, but I rather like the idea of calling it "cancer". It's a rapidly spreading, malignant growth that is crippling the space station. What about that doesn't sound like cancer to you? Besides, it's a word all that of the marines are already familiar with, so it would make more sense for them to name it cancer than it would for them to name it something like "Nex".

Some suggestions of mine! I think the marines should not know anything about this substance and call it with a generic word like : the <b>layer</b>, the <b>scab</b> or simply the <b>crust</b>

    Slime.

It's quick, easy and self-explanatory. Every one (including first time players) will intuitively understand what it is. Keep It Simple Stupid.

    It's blatantly called infestation.

Calling it cancer is dumb because it isn't cancerous.

Perhaps each side may create a nickname for it, but it is what it is... A bacterial infestation.

Anyway it doesn't sound good anyway. There's much better suggestions out there.

I also just thought of Over Growth. With growth and OG being the shorter nicknames. Goes well with that running theme in NS where almost everything has a two letter nickname (GL, HA, JP, MS, PG, OC, DC, SC, MC, RT, TF, etc.)

Marines: "We got Ohgee here!" or "this room is about to get OG'd!"

Gorge: "Dropping OG in holo, need backup."

Infest and Infestation should both be used.

"shloop!" the exclamation mark is mandatory.

One of two definitions for cancerous: Like a cancer; an evil that grows and spreads

I don't see how it could be any more spot on.

I do think "Infestation" is the best option, though.

It may be appropriate for a marine soundbite to compare infestation with cancer, but it is not appropriate for the official name to actually be cancer.

Q: What is going on here?

    A: It has been infested

I like "Infestation". It explains what it is and it's easy to say.

    "The room is inf (infested)"
    "Inf is reaching our area!"

    And so on.

"Just notice that "infestation" is used in sc2". Can you say prior art? You guys used dynamic infestation to describe your work in 2006 right? There is no sign that because of sc2 you decided to use infestation... you guys clearly had it before may 17 2007 and its such a generic term... Ideally you would have your own keyword for it, but sometimes the generic is all that is needed.

We've been calling it infestation since NS1 first came out... Look in the archives, you'll see plenty of mappers yapping on about "adding more infestation" to their maps. I highly doubt Blizzard could ping UWE on a copyrights violation if UWE continues to call it what they've always called it. Especially if you consider that Blizzard originally called their stuff "Creep" and have since switched to using our name for it.

If you want simplicity and immediate recognition (by new players) then call it "creep". I'm pretty sure almost everyone will know what this is since it's been used before to refer to a similar matter like the creep in Starcraft and Warcraft 3.

kind of digging "growth". Pretty simple, isn't trying hard.

"We are concerned that our terminology could be percieved as a ripoff of Starcraft's terminology... Eureka, I've got it! Let us change our terminology to exactly what Starcraft uses! That is clearly the optimal solution to that problem we are having!"

    Brilliant.
