How about Min Min? Seriously though in the heat of battle I'd probably just call them Worms.
Okay, if people really don't care for nymphs, I think wisps make for a great backup name, it neither conjures up images of slow or gross crawling insects, nor does it rely on misspellings to distinguish it from a real word, nor is it so obscure that nobody would ever call it that.
Wisp and Nymph are both bad names because they're not at all menacing enough for an alien lifeform. They sound like woodland fairies. It's the marines coming up with these names, remember. I mean I know these things won't actually be killing anybody, but they're part of the threat nonetheless. Embers sounds much better to me.

If you insist on the concept then alien infestation is not too far from forest.

Skulk, Lerk, Gorge, etc all sound evil and menacing. Wisp/Nymph is too peaceful sounding.
But these things aren't menacing. We don't try and call 'eggs' something menacing, because they aren't. These a floating glowing firefly type things. Marines calling them something menacing would just make me chuckle. Actually, maybe that's a good point, let's call them 'Death Floaters' :-)
As a MTG player, Ghost Fire occurred to me, had a little chuckle. I know, uninspired, not monosyllable, not "menacing" enough...but these nymphs are pretty harmless compared to the other kharaa lifeforms.
I think nymph sounds fine to me, or wisps, since they are easy to yell, and their names are distinct enough.

Gorge is not even evil or menacing. The only alien not having that is the onos, although some may suggest that's what people shout when they see it coming.
if it has to fit in with the other alien names, it should be based on a verb of an action the things are doing, like flit (floating), hove (hovering) (I know those are both crap, but it's just to demonstrate the point)

If you ask people how they interpret the words nymph or wisp, 9/10 of them will say a fairy.

Yeah, I agree with this.
While personally I don't care what the actual name will be, I do think it should be something easy to say, lest it just get changed anyway. "embers" rolls off the tongue and is easier to say in the heat of battle than "wisp" or "nymphs"
But anyway, yeah. Consider that it's the marines who give these names, not a 5-year old Elvish child (no offense :p )
Could always just not give them a name, maybe they could be a relatively new development in the NS world? It'd add a bit of mystery as to why they're there.

Interesting.
Then the community will "naturally select" it's own name :p
Like what happened to basicly all the Silent Hill monsters. If I recall correctly all the enemies in the games Team Silent made have no official names.
Nymph actually makes quite a bit of sense if you consider some old mythological tales concerning them - they are supposed to be beautiful and eye-catching demi-gods. Some legends say that they are so beautiful they can blind a person if they look too long. They also cause infatuation like a moth to a flame.
Marines could easily be lured in by their beauty and then devoured by Oni. :)
Just some thoughts. I like Nymphs... otherwise I vote for Embyrs but I would pronounce it just like "embers".

I can imagine them floating around the same way embers float through the air from a fire. Very fitting name. perhaps without the y.

Or another thought. Rather than making any new posts, you could just quote old ones from the last 13 months!!
