Wanted to say: Been spending more time on the Elder beta the last couple of days, and the latest patch for it fixed most of my gripes about how combat feels.
Outside of early-game high-level monster killing(If you're level 2 and it's level 4, be prepared to be there awhile), it's solved nearly all the problems I've had. Oh- and the graphics aren't that hot. Outside those, its tons more fun than it was just because it feels <b>right</b> now.

Still trying to ponder if I should roll with WAR. I don't know much about it.
I did the Age of Conan thing... and that kept my attention for all of two weeks.
Before that it was Pirates of the Burning Sea. I don't know why I quit that - it was quite fun. o.o I think I might have the disc somewhere around here, hmm.

Hiya Sid, long time no see!
I can fully ensure that WAR is a *much* better product than Age of Conan. AoC was ###### during beta, up to release. This is nearly at full retail quality right now- about as good as WoW was at release. If you like PvP a lot, involved, complicated PvP, it is the MMO for you.
So far, the european beta is, in one word, ######. GOA gets credit in one department: They're upfront about it. They're not trying to sweep things under the carpet, they're not secluding themselves and observing communication silence, they're out there saying "we ######ed up, and we're sorry about it, and we're working hard to fix it."
They gain a few points for that. But this isn't good. Nobody can create accounts, and it's been that way for the past 24 hours at least. It's unprofessional, and it doesn't bode well. This IS a beta. It's a test. Better to have all the issues out there now and fixed and have a smooth release, sure. And maybe that is what all the trouble will result in. But if this is how the launch ends up, Warhammer Online stands to fall in Europe. Wrath of the Lich King can't be far off, and Warhammer Online needs to have made its impression by then, needs to have gained a footing. The U.S. beta seems to be running smoothly, so in the U.S. the game will stand or fall on its own merits. In Europe, it could falter and fail regardless of whether the game is good or not, merely because the servers may be ######. That would be very bitter for all involved.
The community constantly pointed out to them that they should have had the accounts up and running weeks before the beta started like the americans but they just cooly remarked that "hey, everything will be fine. Our techs assure us that we'll be able to handle it: our website currently handles more hits than we have beta keys."
...well wasn't it surprising when yesterday was a complete and utter disaster. Who could have seen it coming???
I wasted my entire sunday and didn't get my account fully readied and keyed until 4am this morning. I'm tired and somewhat angry ¬.¬
I was talking to one of the guys at work and he was saying that he just goes for the US versions of MMOs these days, after this mess I'm tempted to perhaps follow suit in future, especially on any projects GOA are involved in.
~sigh~
oh well, this collector's edition player who should have been able to play yesterday will be getting some warhammer in today :3
... still hasn't happened. Their current newspost is dated 16:00 CET (it wasn't on the site at 16:00 CET, or 16:10 CET for that matter), and says they've got an authentication system up - for people who HAVE accounts. Still no way to sign up an account. The fail continues.
... and continues. It wouldn't be so bad if the U.S. beta weren't (from what I hear) running smooth as butter. At least they could point at say "look, they're having problems too!" But no. The fail is not externally induced.

TBH, I have to wonder why EA didn't just sweep in and go "WE will be handling this!"
sucks guys, you have my condolences. (now go buy a NA version and come play with me)
They didn't sweep in because they probably can't. The contract with GOA was signed before EA was involved, I believe.
By way of an update, they say they have cleared the outstanding back log of beta key validations. That does jack for all those who <i>still can't register an account.</i> They haven't said anything about account registration at all for closing on 18 hours now, and the last message was "yeah, it's not up." They said they took it down to "allow the database server to completely focus on the open beta code validation." Considering that a little over five hours ago, "The last remaining 10,000 players who were waiting for access can now join the action on the servers," and the registration still isn't back up, I am anticipating the next excuse. If it takes them over five hours to think it up, it's probably going to be epic. I'm placing my bet on sentient spiders stealing the registration system.

don't feel like Questing? Put your self down for a Scenario. Done with the Scenario? Go work on of of the 3 or so PQs you have avaliable in your current zone. PQing not interesting atm? Go check out the World RvR.

I saw a couple of videos from the inevitable city, and thought to myself "man this is ugly!". But after reading some rock, paper shotgun article, I found some screenshots that calmed my first fears. Anyone in who can say something about the major cities?
At this point I'm trying to imagine the people stuck in my situation who PAID for their beta key. I'm annoyed, but the humor of the epic fail is starting to overshadow that. I bet it'd be different if I'd put money into this.
On the other hand, if I still can't get in when head start rolls around...

I quite like the inevitable city. Although, it is really really big. And the map filters don't help you when you're looking for a specific type of vendor or trainer. So you'll spend lots of time wandering.
Besides that. I'm up to level 12 and haven't encountered anything I'd call a city. Everything is camps. Some large, most small.
One thing I can say is that there aren't nearly enough flight masters.
I'm enjoying it but I find melee is hampered by pretty laggy gameplay... I suspect that's probably GOA rather than warhammer though :/ There's all kinds of 'fun' stuff like monsters running on the spot and teleporting to you and whatnot. I also find the response to my button presses a bit slow or non-existant at times. During one PQ I often couldn't even get my poor witch hunter to swing for several seconds at a time <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
As such I've found myself more on ranged classes like the shadow warrior (quite fun!). I really like the engineer but I don't like the dwarves so I'll no doubt be hopping on the magus to try it out soon enough (I'd have done it sooner but destruction is heavily populated on all servers XD ).
Is the US version smooth as silk or do you get some odd hiccups netwise too?

I have yet to get to the point where it is unplayable, but still.
So, after more playing:
The Bright Wizards are broken in PvE. Fine in PvP, but broken in PvE.
Being able to EASILY kill something higher then my level before it reaches me? Not good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> I had fun with some kill-collection PQing when I had a healer around. I never went below 100 combustion and would just fireball, ignite, ignore.
In PvP it is fine b/c once something gets up to you (And they will) you are indeed a glass cannon.

The US "Open" beta is just as the one you guys are playing.
However, I can say this: The version I am playing is running smooth as hell, and melee does not feel laggy whatsoever. Elder Beta is still actually testing things- it only gets better, I promise.
I've been playing with a high elf archmage. fun stuff! perhaps the first time I've actually had fun playing a healer. but damn, am I squishy. If an enemy closes in on me in RvR, there is nothing I can do but kiss my ass goodbye. but as for the game itself - pretty awesome. better than I expected. When it comes to giving you plenty of options for things to do so you don't get bored, it's the best MMO I've seen so far. You can do regular quests, wander into a public quest, hop into an RvR game, all pretty much with the touch of a button. WoW has plenty of things to do, too, sure, but they all feel much more grindey, and trying to find a group for a dungeon bites the big one. of course, you can't really judge how grindey an MMO is by level 7...
[WHO]ThemYou can call me DaveJoin Date: 2002-12-11Member: 10593Members, Constellation
Aggro management is in need of serious work. I've been killed many times by a mob I didn't even attack that had previously been attacking a tank.
Also, Public Quests are fun, but the loot rolls are complete bull######. I can't even count the number of times I've gotten a gold medal for participation (I believe that absolutely requires top 3 contributors), and no loot at all.
Still no way to register. I don't think GOA is going to bother, at this point. The beta is going to be over soon anyway. They had their chance to clean up their image after DAoC. Guess they didn't care.

Account registration is up, seems to work (for now) and the patch is downloading at quite acceptable speeds. If it continues in this track from now on, I forgive.
