I'm having hope for it, i might preorder it so i can try it out this weekend. x5 was nice enough to give me some computer parts so now i can play something besides source at best. With some of the ratings its gotten, i think i might say goodbye to my social life again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

you can't actually play this weekend

    <a href="http://www.warhammeronline.com/preorder/" target="_blank">http://www.warhammeronline.com/preorder/</a>

Actual info about the pre order, however the long and the short of it:
    1) To get into open beta you need a preorder (either SE or CE). There are other ways (like being in closed beta), but preorder is the easiest.
    2) Open beta Download starts on the 15th. So likely the day after (or 2) is when we will be able to play.
    3) Release is Sept 18th.

Honestly, I have turned into a damn fanboy. I played it at NYCC, it looked damn good, and I always am looking for a new MMO (as I get bored quickly). WAR looks like it could replace WoW for me for a while, permanently if the subscriber base stays high.

word on the NDA drop is:
Not this week. There are a few more "must haves" before they drop it. (some one mentioned a debilitating bug, my guess is that is one of them)

    Right, forgot to mention that.

All the info I posted is NA (and I assume Aussie land as the servers are linked).

Unfortunately, those in Euro Land have to deal with GOA and they suck.

I'm sure this is going to be fun, i'm going to play it tbh, but imo. It looks like WoW but modded with different skins and sounds.

    Like exactly like WoW.

Except this game promises good PvP as well as healer and tank classes that aren't ######ed in solo play. Of course, WoW may have promised all that as well, I wouldn't know, but it sure didn't DELIVER. Let's see if this one can.

Been looking forward to this for a while... I've had my collector's edition preordered for several months =D

I love the sound of Party Quests, the Tome of knowledge and the open party system.
I also like that the dwarf engineer / Chaos Magus sounds kinda like it'll play a bit like the TF2 engineer XD

The only thing people seem polar on is the combat itself though... some people say it's too slow, some love it but I've not heard anyone complain about stuff outside of combat so that's promising to some degree. That said, they're one of the few MMO developers I've listened to who seem to actually understand that they're making a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER game and are going out of their way to harness it by implementing half decent social systems and the like.

I've done faaaar more research on this than I probably should but what else can I do if I'm not in closed beta? =P

Only major problem for me for sure is that I don't know what I'm going to play @.@
I won't be an ork, and if I can't make a pretty dwarf girl then the stunties aren't getting touched even if the engineer really sounds super fun.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
My main problem is the several different groups of people that I all want to play with and how the ###### I'm going to make them all play on the same server. If I manage to pull THAT off it'll already be a small miracle.

LOL TWO YEAR OLD HAET LAWL

Tank and Healer classes have been fine in terms of solo content ever since BC. And now you can easily level from 0 to 70 as a Tank or Healer spec, even.

As to its likeness to WoW, I'll say what the previews have said: It learned from WoW.

In all honesty, as soon as NDA is down I'll give you all my opinion. I don't think its against the NDA to say that I am having a lot of fun.

you're seriously arguing that a prot warrior or holy priest or tree druid could level to 70 without a problem? sure, if they want it to take three times as long, or if they spend the entire time instance grouping... tankadins actually do have an easy time solo leveling after level 40 though.

Then your healers really should've learned what it meant to "keep a DPS set".

Sure, you won't go as fast, but its not 3x as long. More like 1.5x, especially with the changes to questgiven XP.

Why would you want to play the beta, considering you've already bought the game and will therefore be playinig the fully featured one rather soon? Does the character carry over or something?

The one advantage a new MMO has over wow is that people have yet to discover the flaws in the game. For all it's problems, wow is still a lot of fun if played with a good group of people. I'm much more interested in how a new mmo's developer reacts to community feedback and how they evolve their game than any specific feature they do better than wow.

    /me ducks gem's wrath.

    Was about to post that.

    GOA HAS said this though:
    1) all things promised to CE preorders will be delivered (open beta, head start, etc etc). They are working on getting their OB data center up, and if they can they will let in CE preorders to the CB before OB goes live, but they are promising nothing.

Honestly, it sounds like Mythic got a bunch of stuff together much faster then expected, and instead of shafting the NA people by with holding things untill GOA was set up, they just released it when it was ready, compleatly flatfooting GOA.

100% spot on. I am now in the beta, but haven't played yet, so everything I say from here on is based on playing it at NYCC:

It is really interesting to see who they have take from various different MMOs, how they have tweaked it, how they have improved some aspects and responded to issues with others.

Any one that has played LotR:OL is familiar with the concept of the ToK, however it is such a larger thing and all pervasive.
The Scenario PvP I played was a lot like BGs in wow, except that combat feels VERY different, and the scenario was actually interesting (again, this might just be because it is new <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

As gem pointed out, combat is slower then WoW. Which is kinda interesting. In PvP it allows for more tactical thought instead of just being the master of twitch gaming and knowing the exact spell rotation you need to omgwtfpwn some one's face.

Meh, NDA gets lifted shortly, possibly this week, they said they just had 2 more items to take care of before they lifted it. Combine that with some 50K+ people just being added, I doubt they expect the NDA to actually hold up under the onslaught <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Sorry, sucks to live outside of NA when it comes to games.

    That being said.

GOA seems to not be that bad. I mean, they suck at <a href="http://www.war-europe.com" target="_blank">Web Design</a>, but they seem to be fairly responsive on some of the community forums (Warhammer alliance, a cespit nearly as bad as the WoW forums, but gets lots of dev posts), and everythign they have said has been rational and fair.

Seriously, they don't have an account management section on their web page. So what? As long as it is there by the ime you need it, then you are golden.
They gave VERY reasonable explanations for what happened with the CE preorder stuff (Mythic acted faster then expected, leaving GOA suckign dust).

    I wouldn't worry too much.

Hey, at least you aren't Aussies <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> (who JUST started getting let in to beta testing)

Yes, I am a damn fanboy. Yes, Paul Barnet is probably to blame (man knows how to work an crowd).

    But seriously.

REAL world PvP? PvP with a Goal? All classes viable in PvP? Collision detection between players? Public Quests (enter a zone and suddenly you are in the middle of a grand old battle with a bunch of players)? Tome of Knowledge? Dual Targeting (one friendly one enemy)? Quest hints on your map (seriously, I got this awesome map of awesome, yet all the quest givers can say is some vague crappy explanation of where I should be? Just circle the are on my map of awesome!)?

You really have no idea how long it takes me to make a character and settle on a class do you? =P

I need the Betas just to get a feel for what classes I actually like so that when retail hits I'm not still playing twelfty alts trying to work out if I actually like even one of them.

I never used to be like this... not until City of Heroes at least XD

I'm sorta curious about the elf archmage. I know shamans power up destruction spells with healing and vica versa but I hear elfies power up healing with... healing. Doesn't that just encourage you to stick to one role throughout the battle? I think the shaman sounds better set up with it's encouragement to mix things up =o

I also totally wish there were female chaos marauders... I'd totally macro that long range tentacle grab ability to shout "GERROVER HERE!!!" whenever it's used =3
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
I thought the Archmage is the pair of the Shaman. Most of the stuff I saw said that damage spells build healing power and visa versa. However I have seen a number of things recently that seem to say that simply casting builds highmagic, and highmagic bosts ALL their spells (so, cast more, and you are better, but you start running out of AP).

    Honestly not sure.

Meh, I am probably going to end up with a Dwarf Engie as my main, though I am seriously interested in most of the classes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
I'd love to play a dwarven engineer but I refuse to be a 'helga'. If only more games had female dwarves like the ones from lineage II. They were awesome!!!

Guess I could always give the chaos Magus a shot seeing as it's similar. Thing is, while the pairings across the factions have their shared aspects they always play different too, like how white lions are melee pet classers with a developing pet while squiggers are ranged pet classers with disposable pets =3
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
Magus and Engie are apparently much closer of a pair then WL/SH.

If you read <a href="http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/warhammer-online/895250p1.html" target="_blank">Gamespy's WAR blog</a>, one of them picks a Magus as main, then they all switch to order so he rolls an engie and comments that they are very similar.
