I'm not saying having that aspect in the game world would not be nice for some people. I'm sure many would like the option to change thier charactor setup to suit thier playstyle. I just don't think enough people would make use of it. Different models I like, variety is a good thing. However the need to change to much on the user end I believe may just be unessecary. I could be wrong though and I am sure if enough people asked for the option to setup how they look as a Marine or a Fade or an Onos I am sure it would be added at some point. Really though how likely are you to notice the Onos with the broken tusk and the scars as opposed to the normal model in most battles?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
If you are skilled and experienced in that game and it has a factor in gameplay you notice. In some games where this is a part of gameplay it's quite signifigant unless you are stupid or to new to know what's what. If I saw an onos looking hurt I'd know that I should communicate to my squad that we should concentrate fire on that unit. Same goes for aliens attacking marines, you see the weak one in the herd and you slaughter that one. Kill the weak to reduce their number more effectively. Now they are less one gun and easier to take. Actually, you know what: that's how real natural selection works in the ecosystem. So for that reason alone it stands to reason that a relatively minor addition like that must be implemented, it fits the title so perfectly.

Customization could get more advanced too if you want it to, you could make it so that constellation members, developers, etc. have unique additions to the model or skin. You could make it like TF2, WarcraftIII, Halo2, etc. where there are persistent stats and that rank could translate into something minor but unique to the model.

It's a good sales attribute actually. I realize most of us veterans who have never had this in NS1 are going to worry about this being included simply because we've never had it. But this game is being retailed and as such we should consider things that appeal to the larger gaming community.

I wasnt meaning to stereotype :S

Although at the same time consider this - TSA may specifically recruit and train people of a specifc race / gender for specific roles / tasks because they have a natural talent in that area - who wins the sprinting or long distance at the olympics? usually someone with african heritage.

But you are totally right in saying that a mini stats system is a better idea <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> but i would still have it tied slightly to physical appearance - like a taller solider will move slightly faster than a shorty etc<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Unless I miss my mark <b>CanadianWolverine</b> was not accusing you of being racist/sexist whatever; he was suggesting that your good idea of having more player customization shouldn't be based off of anything that could be misconstrued(and possibly reflect poorly on UWE) and instead be based the modifications on armor types.

To reiterate, the idea isn't bad but the implementation should not be controversial even if it is PC to say so.

If there is customization on player models to show individuality, I sure hope it is open to all. I'm not discounting unique groups, I am pretty sure clans/guilds would love to have badges or patches on their uniforms, as well has particular Kharaa skins, that make them recognizable. Give a unique badge/patch/medal/identifying mark to constellation members and developers.

I want to support this with an example, even though it may not be some of our forum goers favourite game, can you name the game that sold number one on the charts for extended periods of time (as well as many add ons) and featured individual image customization options?

If you can name what is toted as the best selling PC game in history, you also get the right answer.

For those not willing to look it up, you will probably recognize the name right away: The Sims.

I am pretty sure while we are looking for a good team game, a little individuality with identifying characteristics to player models couldn't hurt either.

If you implement different skills or attributes to one or another based on gender/race, what happens when one is noticeably better than another, then people who want to play as one, might sacrifice what they want to play as in order to get an advantage

Or, if one has a specific playstyle, same thing would apply, people might end up sacrificing one thing for another, which kind of defeats the purpose as any female playing might pick a male, and we'd all be scratching our heads thinking ( Why are there females again?)
