Some beasties I photographed
I found some spiders over the past week or so that I think are pretty interesting. If I ever see a spider of a suitable size, I'm always certain to grab it and take some photographs. The first is a New Zealand tunnelweb spider, which is a bit like a miniture funnel web and the second (I think) is a male sheetweb spider who was wandering around looking for love. I haven't ruled out the second spider being a huntsman though, so I'm taking him to the zoology department on Monday.

Edit: I generally take pictures of all kinds of insects too, especially anything unusually large or that look unusual.

Put shoe on spider head fo sho.
Make the spider show us his keyboard.
End their lives, before they get too intelligent.

But the beige one is cool.
Eww, i dont like the black spider. Looks so mystical.

I actually just fed the black spider a moth. I was a little disappointed she didn't seem to be eating her dinner (two moths) so I went to bed. Just now I looked at her house and noticed the moth was on a really funny angle. Sure enough, there were two big fangs stuck in its head region and the spider was staring at me (or as near as I could tell). The moth then disappeared into oblivion and I haven't seen the spider or moth since.
It's good though because I now know where the spider has made the 'front' of her hole, so future feeding can be placed there so she'll notice it sooner.

Spider in my house = WTH. SMASH.
[Y/N]?
If you can, get middle point focus, the first 2 pictures are a bit fuzzy. Pretty nice macros even though I hate the larger kind of spiders.

She was in her little container and I wasn't willing to over-poke to draw her out. Unfortunately, I could not get close enough for the macro to focus properly, which was a bit of a shame. The second ones are better because the spider posed for the photos and didn't seem to mind me coming right up close with a camera.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Pretty cool. Are they active or just spending the day and night in their hole?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The Tunnelweb spends her day in her hole and only comes out to eat (I fed her a moth) and make more webbing. She's webbed the area around her tunnel (in fact the entire box) to an amazing degree. I don't see her very often though.
The other spider goes nuts at night and I can hear him running around the little container. Mostly he just sits in the corner and doesn't do much. I'm going to release him after I figure out what he is, so he can continue his search for love.
You should pit them against eachother and let them do battle.

high five

my bet's on the beige one

Same here, he has reach.
But then, what do I know?
Also, godammit pictures of spiders creep me out. Even when I flip through a scientific american or something and one of the pages has a full page spread of a spider like the ones you photographed, jesus christ I have to throw the magazine away.
If I may impart a little of my misinformed and most likely dangerously flawed spider-logic to this argument, I would say that the funnelweb would win because if I recall, hunstmen spiders have little to no appreciable venom while funnelweb spiders are one of the most poisonous creatures in existence.

You obviously know nothing of boxing. You're not allowed to bite in boxing, unless you're Mike Tyson, and even then it's frowned upon.
This is just like teletubbies!!
Wait, you're keeping these as pets?

You do realize that in those hills you're talking about are probably going to be MORE SPIDERS! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

the minute i saw those pics, i checked the corners of my ceiling, for anything lurking.
It reminds of one of of the scariest things ever, i was watching Starship troopers 2. ( thats frightening yes, but thats not the worst bit) and the bugs were hurling themselves at these defence shields, and i HATE bugs, really creep me out, and there was one sneaking somewhere, and then i felt this thing on my head, and i was like, tss fears ftl. felt it again brushed my hand up, spider falls in lap. i jumped up like a big girl, and threw like 14 shoes at the bed ( i didnt know i had that many shoes.)
creeepy, did you touch them? did you pick them up in your bare hands?
