Re: Ideas For Subnautica Below Zero
Is anyone else here bothered by the extraordinary amount of sea glide fragments littered about? what happened here? did a sea glide shipping container explode?

Re: Can you back up Save files? --answered-- Yes
I wrote up a script that takes backups of the game save files each time the game launches. This was prompted by me losing a 21 hour save file to a crash that caused it to get corrupted. The script and the game's icon (.ico) file are in the attached zip and the instructions for how to use the script are in its comments. I included the icon file since the script also functions as the "launcher" so users can shortcut to the script and then give that shortcut the proper Subnautica icon. Depending on where you purchased your game and where your game directory and save game directory is located you will need to tweak the file paths in the script accordingly. Again, instructions are in the comments inside the script file.
I don't know why the automatic backup of save files to mitigate losses from corruption was not programmed into the game itself. With this script and the backups it creates you will end up with a "backup" and a "backup_old" folder alongside your normal save folder. If you lose your save due to corruption simply delete the existing (corrupted) save folder and rename the backup folder as "Saved-Games" and restart the game and you are back in business.

:: Place this script inside the folder where your Subnautica "Saved-Games" :: folder resides. In the case of Epic Games, this will be located at :: "C:\Users\Merritt\AppData\LocalLow\Unknown Worlds\Subnautica\Subnautica" :: however depending where you purchased your game it may be located elsewhere :: :: The script will take a double backup (renames an existing backup and then :: will copy the current save file to a new backup) of your save game and then :: will launch the game for you. Essentially this script will replace your :: shortcut to launch the game. :: :: I am also including a Subnautica icon with the script so you can create a :: shortcut to the script and then set the icon on that shortcut so your :: "launcher" will essentially look the same for you. @echo off ren Saved-Games_backup Saved-Games_backup_old robocopy SavedGames Saved-Games_backup /E :: The line below (inside quotes) is the path to the game's launcher. If you :: purchased the game through Epic (or any other that implements Digital Rights :: Management) you will find it must be launched through Epic Games' launcher :: and launching from the game's exe will not work. My solution to this was to :: make a shortcut to launch the game inside the EG store and the place that :: shortcut in the folder where the game is installed. I then point this script :: (using the line below) at that shortcut which will properly launch the game. :: :: An easy way to test this is try directly running Subnautica.exe from the game :: install location. If the game launches to the menu, you can just use the path :: to that. If it opens then immediately closes itself then you must use the :: shortcut method I described above. "D:\Games\Subnautica\Subnautica.url" exit

Re: Below Zero system requirements question
do yourself the biggest favor you'll ever do and get a 1TB 860 EVO or similar. Use Samsung's transfer software to put your OS on the SSD, then keep programs that open on startup (like say, Steam and Spotify) on the SSD with the OS, and any games that need the extra speed (like Subnautica and any game you play all the time that has high loading times). Put everything else on the normal spinny disk and use symbolic links to map them to your SSD.
That's good advice, but only for technically minded people who have some computer knowledge. Everyone else should not monkey around with symlinks. I don't even use them and I worked in IT for decades, they are unnecessary unless you have a specific need for what the do. A 1TB SSD is plenty big enough for an OS, apps and games as long as you keep your actively installed list to a reasonable level (say about 20 or less, how many games do you need to play at a time? I have 19 now and my 1TB SSD is only around half full) and uninstall or archive the ones you aren't expecting to use again, or for a long time at least. Everything else can be archived to HDD rather than needing to be kept in the "live" arena via symlinking.
@Calarand77 You will be fine with your current computer. It won't scream through the game but it will handle it. I don't know why you believe you need AA (unless your screen is lower res than 1080p), but that GPU should not have a problem giving you at least up to 1080p. Not having an SSD will give you slower content loading times, but that's all it will do, and since you've played Subnautica you would be familiar with this fact already. Fiddle with the other graphics settings if you need to, like Bloom, Lens Dirt, DoF, Motion blur (which is a myth dev studios really need to expunge from the entire gaming universe), ambient occlusion, screen space reflections and dithering.

That's how you're communicating with your community. You're are the most honestly people I've ever met. I like that so please keep this behavior. Other companies are different in such things and I hate them for being like that. Thank you for being honest and of cause thanks for trying to make everyone happy.
Könnten also auch vielleicht 'Polar-Rochen' etc. nehmen. Was meint ihr?

First Impressions + A Suggestion
Loving Below Zero so far! I was a little lost at first (I later noticed that apparently the initial audio between Robin and Sam hadn't played for me, so I didn't understand where I was supposed to go until I stumbled across the path), but once I got into the open world proper it all sorted out.
As with early Subnautica I'm always disappointed when I see a cool plant and can't scan it, lol, but that's obviously in the pipeline. The new creatures I've encountered so far are cool and feel very alive*. Except the titan holefish, but I gather from their description that they are intentionally not all there in the head. :P I did find it a little weird that there is no dialog when you find the emergency supplies, and the supply drop itself felt very barren with just a blueprint. Maybe a container with a little food and water in it?
Right now I am trying to figure out how to get through the twisty bridges without drowning; it's a maze and a half and doing it without the safety of a Seamoth (or the ability to build habitats) is tense.
Which brings me to my suggestion, which would ironically make my current predicament even worse. Ever since the original Subnautica I've always wished there was a "free look" option where you could change the controls to allow full six-point rotation while underwater. Basically making it so that if you keep moving the mouse up you will keep looking up until you complete a vertical 360 and vice versa; swim up and swim down would move you relative to your current facing.
I feel like this would add to the immersion of swimming a lot, and bring in the very real life danger of getting disoriented underwater, especially in caves and the like.
