So balance for 20 players. Then the game will be enjoyable from 16 to 24 players which will apply on the preference of most players. -

This is so true and so sad because how complicated can it be to make a queueing system that actually is a queueing system and not just a lottery where whoever pings the server at the right time wins?!?
-
Because it's like the lottery: With lots of luck you can get really great and intense matches you will not have in any other game.
But that's also the reason why I play it so little, because of the low possibility of good matches I know I have… -

What makes me kind of sad is that all recent competitive multiplayer games I played actually do not give you the opportunity. I'd even say that giving this opportunity has yieled NS2 this horrific player retention rate of <<1… -
You have to realise that for rookie players to play against you is as much fun as playing against an amibot user.
So you get banned as would any cheater. Whether yu cheat or not (which you don't) is not relevant. -

Especially considering that's more games than there are active players o_O

1) It is easier to have a good casual experiance on a bigger server because as you say individual actions count less
2) Seems to me that people LOVE big servers, as they are the ones that actually fill up. Look a… -
Problem of NS2 consists of 3 parts mainly:
1) It is very painful & unfun to loose
2) Rounds often take quite long after it is clear which team wins (which is often decided within the first 5 minutes)
3) there … -

While I dont think you can compare NS2 to TLII, Dont starve and FTL because they are all SP games, I think the comparison to Chivalry is very interesting.
They are both massively Multiplayer and by unknown developers. A… -

I'm sorry, I don't want to be the ass here but this point of "diminishing playercounts are absolutely normal" is so bad it really hurts me physically.
Today on a saturday evening NS2 is not even in the Steam Top… -
well, probably your just a better player than me. And 90% of the people who bought the game.
And it is a fact that as Fade or lerk you can be killed instantly. I never said a single marine can kill a fade in 1 shot but that it can happen… -

For your first point: Thats why in the middle ages of gaming someone invented armor classes.
For your second point: If hitting the wall with your head was part of the ethos of the game... would you still defend it?
your power supply is WAY WAY too big. 500 or even 450 W would be more than enough for your computer.
Only SLI/Crossfire Systems need more than 500 W...(Quote)
NS2 was in development for about 7 years. If you look a the status of both gameplay and performance/technical features 5, 6 years after start of development and even at the time of the actual release, you cannot deny that obviously…(Quote)
actually this is a balance feature. As its AI is so advanced it would win every game if it stayed in for more than 300 seconds.
The alt+tab bug should be fixed asap though...(Quote) But was AvP done by a small Indie studio who had to write their very own engine because they could not use any other engine because... BECAUSE?
No? I did not think so.
before concede I used to have a book right beside my keyboard and when my whole team died within the first minutes and we were at still 1 rt after 2 or 3 minutes (the two we built got eaten) I would F4 and read.
Right after I persuaded friends …(Quote) In NS2 it's basically JP+SG as the SG took the place of the HMG. All other weapons are not as good(they are great for 1 or 2 thing and suck in every other aspect).
First there is the Point of it being very hard to get into and takes more than 50 hrs of gameplay before you start to really enjoy it.
Besides that there are two major drawbacks:
1) because it is so little fun to loose you have…I actually think it can be a problem.
On more than one occasion I have been that lerk that holds off multiple Exos (I'm a really baad Lerk).
It's simply this situation:
If there are 1 or two gorges biling the entrance, the ex…NS1 had some unique features that were taken away for no apparent reason in NS2.
First of all the gorge in my opinion is the single best class/lifeform in any game I have ever played. I really dont get ehy they changed this lifeform, it …played some rounds today and to be completely honest I dont know whether a free weekend is good promotion for a game as complex as NS2.

sounds like I game I once played where you could build siege towers from turret factories... I like it.

This is right, because one player can concede the game regardless of what his team thinks.
Oh, wait!wtf is wrong with concede?
Sometimes if concede is not allowed becuase of time, I alt+tab out and read the news until we finally lost.
I dont play the game if it's no fun and if you remove concede I will jsut leave or go idle.
I had one experiance that defined my attitude toward this whole concede topic:
I bugged 3 of my friends for some time until they finally bought NS2. The are all hardcore gamers playing SC2, BF3, WOW, CS:GO and what not. some of them have…(Quote)
The point is more that a 5 min game does not hurt you if youre on the loosing and and is not more than a short lol if youre on the losing end.
I mean, you spawn, you die you lost before respawn. quick and painless. If all sta…(Quote)
Yes, I agreed there are people that play together. That why I suggested not to autobalance/random teams every round?
So with the basic Balance system I suggested you would have no problem to play together. Probably as a group…Well, stacking is terrible in NS2, especially as loosing is so painful which again encourages people to actively stack.
And please this "people want to play with their friends" argument is utter BS. Sure, there are people who want to pla…I think OP has a valid point about lua being a pile of shit when it comes to performance. I think they should at least consider porting the game logic to c#, at least someone should take a week or so and validate how much work it would be to do so. …
