There is no SDK folder nor i386.sh file....

actually disabling Steam Cloud was the very first thing I tried (see OP).
And yes it is only NS2 with this issue. Also I'm not the only one with this problem (see OP).

Also the error message is not that c…So now I got a "hint / response" from a dev to disable Steam remote config...
