I admit that Shade upgrades need some work whatever form that takes, but I don't understand the need for a "short-term fix." The shade upgrades in their current form have been this way for a long time now, why the urgency? At least pair it with some…

There's no question that freely available health information changes the combat dynamic in a fairly intrinsic way, beyond just a quality of life change. Obviously it's a less realistic and more arcadey mechanic. However I don't think it's a bad thin…

I see the value in power surge in terms of new player accessibility - it reminds me of electrified res nodes in NS1 which inexperienced marine comms often used as a crutch (not a bad thing). However that was a pretty big res investment per RT and ha…

I don't think the commander should have a high twitch skill ceiling. Good commanding should be about strategy and communication. There are few enough good commanders as it is, having a high skill ceiling on top of that makes it too inaccessible.

This is looking great - what would it take for this (or some version of it) to become the standard? An extension is a good way to build popular support but we shouldn't fracture the community for long IMO.
-
Honestly I think it was doomed to fail from the start because a spinoff combat game was an idea that just didn't have much demand within the NS community. Being part of the same game as NS1 is what made the original Combat what it was - it was used …

I say if people want to cheat their achievements, let them. Those are obviously people who have completionist tendencies but derive no joy from doing it in-game, so they just want it over with. I see no reason to punish them.

The trello is just really hard to parse and interpret in a way that paints a larger picture - it would be nice to have weekly blog posts or something that give us a higher level summary of what the dev team is thinking and doing.

The vent in Mineshaft is exploitable if marines start there, a gorge can run up there in the beginning of the game and spit the base from safety.

The thing about NS2 is that for most players 90% of the time it's an FPS. Nobody buys NS2 who doesn't want to play an online FPS. The player who enjoys online FPSes and also enjoys RTSes commanding live (and usually critical/uncooperative) people is…

First of all, NS3 isn't going to happen any time soon. So put that idea right out of your mind, it wouldn't be a smart move for UWE who simply can't say with confidence that there's demand for a sequel right now. There's not enough room for growth a…

Hitreg was really bad at that time, I don't remember that Blink ever being particularly effective. It was extremely difficult to properly line up your attacks while evading, and you couldn't do fly-by swipes like you can today, especially against JP…

I think a linear order is just the wrong way to display the lifeforms. Even Lerks/Fades/Onoses are more complicated than just being a stronger Skulk. The evolve menu should be in a circle I think, with proper role descriptions for each lifeform.

Well like I said it would take really big sweeping rebalancing to make such a change. Certainly there would have to be buffs to game-ending tech for both teams to compensate for more powerful defenders. I think there are other ways… -
btw as radical as that change would be I wouldn't be opposed to seeing something like that attempted. I really think NS2 needs something big to mix it up if the community is going to be re-engaged at this point. It certainly would make the game more…

I think the biggest cause of snowballing is the loss of tech (alien lifeforms, marine weapons/equipment) upon death. When aliens are down on res and they lose a Fade/Onos in an engagement, odds are they'll never be able to replace it, meanwhile the …
-
The reason why conceding is so often necessary is because NS2 is a game about snowballing at the most fundamental level. You're fighting for an economic advantage that in turn enables you to get stronger tech and upgrades, over time creating an incr…

Personal blog posts are fun, but I'd suggest you guys try to stagger them out with a schedule of some sort. Definitely no more than once on the same day, otherwise it's just a flood of updates.

So I think there are two general categories of ways to make the game more accessible: removing unneeded complexity, and alleviating common pain points. My thoughts/ideas:
Removing Unneeded Complexity
The key here is in … -
By the way I did a quick spot check on the posts in this thread from people who expressed some opinion about this idea and this is my (rough) count:

Against: 17
Neutral: 9

First of all, I've yet to hear a really compelling advantage to a continuous live build. What's the purpose? What, specifically, is being accomplished that couldn't be accomplished with, say, weekly builds? That's still pretty darn frequent by anybo…

Another idea I remember proposing a long time back is to remove power nodes and make RTs provide lights to the room to keep the aesthetic effect.
-
+1 to all of the ideas you listed in the doc. I'll ponder a bit more on other ideas for accessibility, though it's hard for me to look at the game that way being such a long term NS player.
Power nodes can be justified by turning off the… -
Come on man, there's enough drama going on around here without entire threads like this.

There's basically no way to do constant updates without putting mods at some amount of risk. I'd suggest mod makers try to move away from giant monolithic mods and instead keep them more modular (no pun intended) so offending mods can be disabled wi…

Also it's weird to me that Flayra is MIA for all this. I know he's busy with Subnautica but I think it would be a good gesture for him to step in and try to make amends at this point.

This poll is too leading for me to vote on. I'm fine with UWE's development plan but I do have serious concerns with their handling of the community. None of this drama had to happen. Hugh needs to communicate less dirty laundry to the public and co…

Thanks for the rollback, this is the right thing to do in software development. Take the time and get it right. Work out the politics involved behind closed doors.

Honestly most of these blog posts have a serious case of foot-in-mouth disorder. I know you have good intentions Hugh but I think you need more of a filter for front page posts. Talk these things through with the internal stakeholders first and then…

Nice, I like this idea a lot. I'm going to be posting a few ideas for experiments that are big and controversial while hopefully not being impossible in scope, discussion is welcome. I don't expect any of them to shoot to the top of the popularity c…
